The next season really needs to work on reducing the burden of knowledge

The changes in game pacing has made the burden of knowledge way too high, and I think it's the source of most of the game's problems.

This is especially bad in top lane and jungle, where a single interaction with the opponent will often result in one side dead or recalling. There are too many champions in the game to have intimate knowledge of all of the match ups for all of the champions you play, and a single miscalculation can snowball the opponent out of control.

If you ask yourself 'do I win a fight with this champion?' and don't have a good answer at every single point in the game, you're likely going to lose the match up. Even at mid lane, 70% of the time I win a bad match up, it's because my opponent doesn't have enough knowledge of it and hesitates on fights that I know they would win.

The game is too competitive to get around it. Check out sites like MOBA Champion for champ stats and matchups. That being said, with ~150 champs in the game, and 5 champs per team, you have to worry about much more than just 1v1 matchups. Combos are also important. Early you may be countered but late, maybe you counter 2+ other champs on their team.

I find that CC is almost always the most important ability on any champion to avoid being countered too. :p Amumu

Nah, mobas shouldn't be herp a derp simple like phone games. Hell the only thing you need to keep up on in terms of knowledge is who is meta and what do they do, and Riot only does balls awful, game breaking changes once or twice a year.

Yeah, no, you have zero experience at high MMR. One fight where you think you win, but actually just barely lose, can completely remove you from the game, especially as jungle.

You're playing Udyr and both you and Graves reach Scuttle at the same time, neither lane has priority, and both are level 3 and full health. Do you fight him for scuttle or concede it?

If you answer wrong, you lose half your camps and Graves snowballs out of control, with both a gold and level advantage, or Graves now knows you don't know the match up and takes advantage of it by playing aggressively.

Maybe up on that high horse with head-in-ass you've lost touch with events, but that's the game mate. Sorry you get mad that you don't know the game and lose.

A burden of knowledge is remembering every champion's spells, their damage(at least at the level of "If Talon hits double W, Q and AA, I will not die, but will probably die if he adds ignite and 2nd AA"), cooldowns(again, at least at the level of "I saw Vlad dodging something with pool, I can gank him now, but after 10 more seconds he will probably get it back") and, in rare cases, some unusual interactions("Poppy smashed me in the wall and used her W, ally Thresh threw me a lantern, I should wait for her W to end before grabbing it") and typical strategies like jungle pathing, but there's nothing you can do with it. If you can answer the "do I win a fight with this champion", then one of players is either just better at game, is already ahead or his champion counters his enemy's.

get rid of role select, then this gets fixed.

This is a non-issue. You don't need to have 100% knowledge of everything in the game or else you're going to be at a disadvantage. This is a competitive game where most of the time you are playing against others that are around the same skill level as you, which means that they likely will also not have that much more knowledge than you.

You're playing Udyr and both you and Graves reach Scuttle at the same time, neither lane has priority, and both are level 3 and full health. Do you fight him for scuttle or concede it?

These are the experiences you learn from. You make the wrong decision? Now you can factor that in next time you're in a similar situation. As for the consequences that game for making the wrong decision; adapt.
