Gnar! New meta!

Something I really like is that Gnar is the very first attack damage / physical damage support and adds a whole new spin on the game in this way.

I still think he can work in the jungle as well, but I really enjoy playing him as a support and is champion and role that I am, personally, going to master.

Despite Riot initial intentions of wanting him to be a top lane, and without going to majour details about it, Gnar loses to bruisers and mages (the top lane meta, which will not change, only champion picks will change) he might do well against weak early game super tanks like Mundo and Maokai especially if you max Hyper first for the % damage, but only being able to do well in two match-ups out of every other possible choice is not good.

Another point I noticed is that Gnar can do extremely well with no items (better with tank items) so he can do well as a support with low income and get support items / tanky variations of support items and Gnar can harrass well and Hulk Gnar has super high utility / CC to his kit as well as being innately tanky and slightly bursty. Plus as a support it doesn't matter you are extremely tanky since you are a support, nor have to do high damage cause you are a support so this factor also favours support Gnar as long as he can do support things like protecting your damage dealers and granting vision and de-vision.

This is all I want to say for now: Have a nice day! ~ Stacona

I have to agree...he somehow doesn´t scale too well with gear (even fulltank he just soaks and dies after the initiation, full-off he can only clean-up, everything else he tries he get´s oneshot - anything in between just sucks at both), having him support or supportive jungle is a lot more effective than having him feed any half-decent toplaner (except for some very specific matchups).

Yea,as i said he might do well against the weak early game super tanks of mundo and maokai- but doing well against two champions that MIGHT get played vs every bruiser and mage that can get played like shyvana, renekton, lissandra, ryze, kennen, vlad, vel'koz, nidalee(please nerf this champion to the ground), irelia, jax, etc etc etc he will lose to so how would Gnar be a good champion when he loses to almost everyone? i do feel he scales well later in the game, but you do not need items for that, you can feed have maybe one item that isnt even that good on him and still do well later game- so might as well place a champion that can actually win or go even top lane and put gnar in the jungle or as support since he doesnt need gold and has high utility to be that supportive champion for the two support roles

Why would you play him as a support though? He's got a spammable harass with his Q and that's it. You'll never get mega Gnar form because you aren't auto attacking. You have absolutely nothing to protect your carry, help him sustain, or hard engage with. He can't help the ADC at all if you get ganked. What makes you want to play him as a support? (I mean, other than he's so cute, and cuddly, and fun?!)

mega gnar comes from being in combat, remember you are a (short) ranged champion so you can get autos off easily, his W has high base damage especially when you max it- q is good for the harrass--- and then when fights break out you become hulk gnar and have high CC as long as you use E properly you can get the CC off and mega gnar is really tanky too and has the highest base attack damage at all levels

I personally feel that he's fine in top, if a bit off meta, but the idea of gnar support looks nice. I'l have to try it.

I don't see how you would support with him.

You need to constantly be attacking to generate rage (either champs or minions)

and mini gnar has zero utility. Not to mention that he gets out harassed by the enemy adc and has no way to peel .

and the other team just has to sit back when you are about to hulk out.

what match ups would he do well in?

Leona/braum can just all in and laugh

Morg will just out poke him

and champs like tris and caitlyn will harass him freely.

His Q has 1100 range- range is for harrassment- mega gnar is a really strong melee support- braum cannot even all in, leona is an easy match up, braum is easiest match up as long as you dont play someone like thresh or nami (braum is overrated) a champion that functions without gold (just wont be as tanky), has high utility and can harrass the enemy in lane is a really strong support- other option is jungle Gnar

ranged supports, excluding thresh, have the chance to out harrass you like veigar, annie, etc. who has high harrass damage and high kill potential
