I know its a tank meta but what are mages suppose to do now?

Literally i am throwing spells and combos at them but they regenerate their health faster than i can damage them. Mages like brand can maybe harm them a bit but most mages, that are immobile, just focus on adc's and other squishies. Then again pure supports make it impossible to kill their adc.

Tbh even assassins can live in this tank meta by using their mobility to pick out squishies but most mages can only dream of doing that. If they skill shot, guess what, the tanks are in the way and if you get too close then 1 cc is all it takes to take you out as you have no reliable escape. You have hardly any option of going defensive especially when it comes to armor. Obviously regardless of how mages are doing overall, there will be some that are on track or maybe even better than that.

mages arent meant to take down fighters and tanks.

youre supposed to use your utility against them to peel and kite.

your job against other squishies is to blow them up. your job against tanky targets is to act as second supports. mage kits are very versatile with a ton of utility. theyre pretty much designed to never be really irrelevant even against champions they cant kill themselves.

You're correct but i never indicated in my discussion that mages are not able to take down tanks. We should at least be able to damage them so that they don't just run towards us like they just don't care and cc us to death or lets say we should at least be able to kill a tank who is almost dead i.e. <10% health. Even turrets don't help past some time as tanks literally can take multiple turret shots and most of them have cc or speed boost steroids to escape as well as to chase.

With tank meta increasing you hardly ever see squishies and what you almost always see are adc but supports won't let you burst them. If you pick on other squishies the tanks are always in your way so forget skill-shotting and so it turns out that if a tank is missing in my team, you can literally picture the outcome of the game especially when the enemy has tank/s. Not only that but most tanks can kill mages even when going pure tank items and mages won't be able to take more than 20% of their life because most mages depend on burst and have long cooldowns.

I am actually trying to say that as mages ( who are suppose to burst squishies) we are unable to our job.

Yeah man I just got solokilled by a 1% hp tank as Malzahar.

I even unleashed my entire combo onto the tank and he still lived wtf? He was at 1% HP (1 million hp)

Tanks too OP holy shit

We mages need special buttons that give infinite AP

Why aren't mages meant to take down fighters and tanks? Who are the mages supposed to take down? ADCs? Clearly that is not happening. Who said mages aren't meant to fight them lol.

ADCs blow squishies up better while having a massive survivability that is making APCs burst weak.

Tbh i agree with you. An adc can kill me much faster as a mage than i can kill it, if it is within AA range. Obviously this has to be mid game as early game adc's are actually really weak but that doesn't matter as they can just farm under turret and. Also, don't even talk about late game as most mages fall down by that time whilst adc's can even kill tanks at this point.

Also mages need to skillshot which if they miss they get to do no damage whereas adc's cannot miss an AA. This in top of the fact that most mages rely on combo's to do the damage means if you miss a single ability you will most likely miss out on your burst.

The way i play now is that i poke the enemy mages or squishies constanly so my divers/tanks have less issue of killing them. The adc's just recover most of the damage with their sustain but it nonetheless works on other mages who have no sustain. We can also kill assassins but the last time i tried skill- shotting fizz, you know what happened, E happened.

im not saying adc are fine as they are. theyre way overpowered and have too many ways to mitigate burst.

but tanks and fighters and supposed to get blown up by burst and mages. if everything was able to kill fighters and tanks, then tank stats and items would be worthless.

adc arent supposed to just blow up tanks and fighters either, but take them down over extended fights. that seems like another misconception thats existing within the player base.

just because sustained damage is supposed to counter tank stats in the long run doesnt mean carries are supposed to cut through them in seconds.

Durability beats burst. That's why.

Mages have always been the most stable and relevant role in the game. There's a reason why mages such as Orianna, Cass, Syndra etc are always at the upper echelon of high level play for the most part. Orianna has been a near constant meta champion since Season 2. I'm not saying she's OP or anything but she has a good matchup in lane against most, scales well, provides great utility for the team. She's like the Lee Sin of Mages almost.

I'm glad I main the true damage mage: Velkoz.

Mages aren't usually supposed to easily kill tanks. Somebody made this rock paper scissor analogy before. I'll show here: Tank>Burst, Burst>DPS, DPS>Tank.

Right now, no one can kill tanks even velkoz my main :D

zone control, protect your adc, force the enemy tank to spend money on mr as well as armor get a mask to increase your damage to tanks, as well as void staff

ignore rabadons (for most mages)

I'm recently returning to the game and so I can relate to an extent. I was previously a mid lane main (mages, mostly) and in my return I've felt kinda lost. It feels unclear to me what I should be doing at times. I mainly just try to win or not feed in lane. As of late I try to bring some CC to my team comp. The tanks often feel impossible to kill unless I bring Brand.

The only mage I can reliably shred tanks with is Heimer, supposing the enemy doesn't poke-kill my turrets too quick.

I used to be able to melt tanks with Malz more reliably, but when they "fixed" him, they broke the reliability of that sustained heavy dps.

Even now though, with the change to the turret lasers I can't seem to quite shred as well as I used to.

If you're against a tank heavy team as a mage, try itemizing item 3158 item 3151 item 3165 item 3116 item 3135, final item item 3157 or item 3089 depending on the situation. Void is enough against one tank (unless they're seriously the only big threat), but if there are 2-3 this'll give you the tools to kite and shred properly. Obviously if you're like Anivia Rylai's should be substituted of course.

Cdr is essential if you wanna hurt tanks as mages, 'cause it lets you keep whittling them down and ends up mattering a lot more than just a bit more ap or flat pen. Liandries and void are self explanatory, and Rylai's does triple duty of giving you a but more hp so you can last longer, helping you kite/land repeated skillshots, and amping your liandries damage. You aren't trying to make a pick on a tank, so don't use vital cooldowns on them, but you will be able to threaten them and control them in a fight.

Added bonus of Morello hurting any tank that relies on healing once they're below 40%.
