They spawn in the direction of where you are walking to, at somewhat fixed points (there is some leeway).
It's easy to predict their spawns because you can see the cooldown timer on your passive, so you know exactly when they spawn, you can easily guess where they spawn if you're familiar with the champion and the possible spawn sections of the map. And you can influence the placement by walking to the spot you want them to spawn.
