I Dont Get It. Why Are People So Focused On Nerfing Jinx Cause A 54% Win Rate?

coreym11··5 votes·958 views

I am actually serious. People are so focused on this one aspect about Jinx they don't look at the rest of the picture.

Other Adc's got reworked or buffed much stronger and they were top picks for a long time because how much sheer power they brought. To be honest the ult buff doesn't even feel different. I don't even notice the change. I think the buffs made people more aware when they die to this ult and complain about it which people will do when they get killed by something they hate or think is stupid.

People can argue she didn't need buffs and come to a conclusion that "She needs nerfs because of her winrate" but what about everything else. Not that I believe everything I hear, but people like imaqtpie says "she is complete garbage" and only plays her as a joke for the chat spam requesting it and complains about her for the rest of the match. Other pro adc players dislike her too and say there are simply better picks than her (not that i'm gonna point out any cause we all know who see the most play). They say she does no damage compared to other adc's in the meta right now. She hasn't even seen any competitive play and I doubt she will sadly. You would think a champion with no mobility would have more damage out put but apparently that isn't the case.

You would think if this champion was in need of nerfs high skilled or pro players would take advantage of this and use this to plow their way through the game. It only make sense. I'm not going to say she needs to be buffed more or that ultimate buff wasn't enough but despite the recent nerfs given to other adc she is still considered just as bad compared to other adc's as before by pro players if she isn't buffed there are other champions that deserve to be nerfed before before she can even make the list.

With 1 downvote comes many, at least read and tell me what you think.

54% winrate is damn high.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo2 votes

what is an acceptable win rate where they dont need to be nerfed but dont need to be considered trash?

Kinetika5 votes

In all seriousness? It seems that Riot tends to nerf champs when they are consistenly above 52% or so.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

ok but with every nerf to a champ that is about 52% is an indirect buff to another champ

Kinetika1 votes

Yeah but that's why there are nerfs/buffs in literally every patch ever...

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

so there is no way for everything to be completely balanced and all champs have the same pick rate and win % of 50% with all 132 soon 133 champs and all the runes/masteries / and items

so anything with in a couple % of 50 % isnt broken

Meep Man1 votes

The average win rate signs: <47% Win Rate = Needs Buffs (unless they are just hard to learn) 47-48% Win Rate = Keep An Eye on Them 49-51% Win Rate = Balanced 52-53% Win Rate = Keep a Very Stern Eye on Them 54%+ Win Rate = Needs Nerfs

Jinx is definitely on the line, whether they she needs a nerf or not is to be determined.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

how is it possible to have a balance of 132-133 champs with all the different runes/masteries and items combinations to all fall between 49-51% win rate? im not disagree ... im asking how is it possible to achieve that balance?

TequilaZombie1 votes

It's not, but there is the need to bring the outliers down or up in wins. If this is not done, the meta stagnates pretty quickly.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

what meta... in all honesty it is more diverse then it has ever been before.. outside pro play. and even there there are more then the same 20 champs its the same 32 now...

TequilaZombie1 votes

I'm not saying the meta is stagnant. I'm saying that if they don't nerf the champions who are hitting the 53% winrate and buff the ones sitting in the 47%, the meta will stagnate.

That's why Riot tries to keep everyone as close to 50% as possible.

Slythion1 votes

54% is slightly above healthy, but nothing that needs to be nerfed immediately...it's actually one of the lower win % for champions the boards rage about

Kinetika1 votes

Yeah people don't rage much about her for whatever reason, but she is #6 on champion.gg

No Yellow Norco1 votes

One reason her winrate is high is because her "playerbase average games played" is also pretty high. Meaning the majority of people that play Jinx actually have a clue what they're doing. Unlike Kog, who has a stupid high winrate while having the lowest average games played. He is the champ people should really be bitching about lol.

20% global play rate is the problem

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

Lucian 38% pick rate Jinx 17.72%

LeeSin 21.87% pick rate Thresh 26.04% pick rate Janna 22.38% pick rate

come again? whats the problem?

Meep Man2 votes

The difference is all of them except Janna also have win rates around 50%

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

Lucian win rate 47.77% LeeSin win rate 48.08% Thresh 48.45% Janna 53.11% win rate

Honestly, I think any champ with a play rate above 15% is endemic of poor champ variance. These are the most fun/perceived best for the role and nobody wants to play anyone else. When a champions play rate gets that high, you need to do something about the class. If the champions win rate is also high, nerf them and if its closer to 50% buff others in the class while leaving them as is.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

well concept wise people may like a certain champ over another etc. they may like the animation better etc.

WarlockLaw1 votes

Then they need to make the other champions more desirable. The marksman update was supposed to do this, yet we have 5 adcs accounting for 75% of the pickrate for adcs out of the possible 18 choices (according to champion.gg). No other lane has that large a disconnect in pick rates.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

well they tried some champs went to jungle or top Graves and people bitched about him being op ( getting nerfed ) then there is KogMaw who goes jungle and no one thinks of abusing his slow clear and early game weakness and invades him they go MasterYi Udyr and afk farm letting him scale for free and then bitch when he has 5 items and aces a team and no one can fight him... yes i get it he was a bit over powered but kog has always been a late game hyper carry that you bid your time farm and get your items and levels and then win late game with. now he was doing in the safety of the non invaded jungle and not getting harassed or fighting for cs in lane and being ganked and focused.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

she dont have a 20 % pick rate

Slythion2 votes

they are complaining about her win rate because they have nothing else to complain about. They see she has a decent winrate and take that as proof that she needs to be nerfed so as to accomplish their own agenda to satisfy their feelings about losing to her as a champion. The win rate is a crutch because she hasn't been significantly changed recently (idk anyone that was protesting that ult buff, which wasn't exactly game breaking) and so any argument they make can just be turned around by saying "ya but she was like this before, why start raging now?" and they wont have an answer

TequilaZombie1 votes

Because her winrate is at ~54%, which is huge. This is not a problem by itself. What turns a high winrate in a problem is when the champion has about 23% in popularity across all ranks. You could say that there is an absurdly high number of Jinx mains. Well, not that many. She's reaching the 53% winrate at 11-25 games played.

Most people might not be able to pin point the problem. Might be her numbers, might be her counters being nerfed, might be her synergy with item 3085. Nobody can actually say what is making her so strong currently, but there is no way to deny that she is strong as hell right now.

Slythion1 votes

You know why she's strong right now? Because her lane counters have been nerfed recently. It has literally nothing to do with Jinx herself, she still has the same level of weaknesses and strengths as she did 10 patches ago (besides that ult nerf, which isn't the problem). When you say it could be her synergy with runaans, that hasn't been a problem since preseason. It's only a problem now because...well...there aren't any other problems with adcs

She is considered strong because her competitors are weak. The answer isn't always a nerf. Just because a champion has a decent win rate doesn't mean they need to be nerfed, it just means there has to be a shift in power. A 54% win rate is strong, and definitely slightly above average (I think 52-53% is a pretty solid win rate that doesn't require changes), but that doesn't mean she has to be knee-jerk nerfed just because the boards say so. I guarentee that if Tristana/Corki/Varus got some sort of buff or saw more play rates(both things that these adc's require), Jinx's win rate would drop by 3-4% or maybe more.

Basically, just because she is strong doesn't mean she needs to be nerfed. The boards are too biased and are too quick to make decisions. She doesn't need a knee-jerk nerf reaction simply because she is doing well, her kit is balanced and just fine, it's simply her doing well in the current meta, something that a champion will always be doing no matter how much time you spend balancing the game. If players are dead-set on wanting to "nerf" her, it has to be an indirect nerf in which you actually buff others (of course, these buffs will only grant a new champion for the boards to rage about).

TequilaZombie1 votes

Fair point. Probably buffing some of the ADCs who need some love is a healthier solution. Although I'd say that it might be a bit risky.

Slythion1 votes

Trying to balance anything is risky. Whenever you change one thing, 10 other things become indirectly changed (and 10 more for each of those...etc etc). It's simply reality for a moba with 130+ champions + the amount of items they have, it's simply impossible to have a completely balanced game.

That's when the boards decide to rage about an actually balanced champion simply because they have a high win rate is so frustrating. I wouldn't be frustrated about it if it wasn't the fact that Jinx herself is actually fine, which is exactly why the only problem that people have is her win rate. Literally nothing has changed for her in a significant amount of time, she's only strong for the current meta, which is why we shouldn't touch her because having a champion that's strong because of the meta and not because they are actually op is about the healthiest and most balanced thing Riot can actually do.

This is as close to true balance as you can get, yet players are too hung up on win rate to notice this is what they actually want (that's actually possible)

so what's wrong with nerfing Jinx? I see no problem.

What I am saying is, why would you nerf Jinx, a champion that isn't played competitively because there are "better adc picks" why would she deserve a nerf? What I am getting from that statement is that she needs to be buffed so you have to consider her as a choice instead of saying "Jinx is not a worth pick over other adc's" then continue to play the same Jhin, Lucian, Ashe.

AwesomeChad1 votes

Also, what about friggin kog'maw being overpowered right now? Riot nerfs the sht out of the top tier adcs and all of a sudden, the broken machinegun known as kog'maw gets free roam because not many adcs can deal with him right now. His rework obviously did NOT WORK yet riot doesn't fix his kit and instead throws out random changes that doesn't fix the problem.

The Boring Nerd1 votes

Because her late game is so powerful, she's unstoppable. Just by geting item 3085 , you can fire 3 shark missiles at once, and I think that's pretty op.

take a look at that Win Rate % by Game Length graph

DarkRitual1 votes

She has a pretty good winrate, along with a pretty high playrate. She's definately worth keeping an eye on, and seeing if nerfs are needed as things settle around the meta.

Matezoide1 votes

Look at her pick-rate.

Rebonack1 votes

It isn't just a win-rate thing. When a champ has a high win-rate paired with a 10%+ play-rate then that usually indicates that something is out of line.
