Dealing with a bad support as an ADC

SteelMankind··8 votes·7,374 views

What can I do to mnimize the impact of a support thats really bad/trolling when I'm ADC? Sometimes I get supports that just die to every blitz or thresh hook, and I have no idea what to do to stop that from happening. Last game my thresh was missing every relic shield last hit, so I started trying to deny him them. He just started inting and competing with me for CS even if he didnt have targons stacks. If I had known he would do this, I suppose I could've let him miss 1 or 2 CS per wave, but then I'm still at a huge disadvantage.

TL;DR It almost feels like an auto-lose for the ADC player when the support is really bad. What can I do, as ADC, to prevent this from happening?

Theres no such thing as a bad support according to this board. Its always the adc fault

yeah. He said his supp run in enemy to DIE, it is his fault he should have killed both and than oneshot nexus .... yeah ... wait why YOU donßt do that ? ah yeah cuz you are a ahole that think he is better than everyone else. It is a 5v5 game means 10 ppl that SHOULD be at the same skill lvl.

My tipp: ignore it. don´t die. every time you die the troll wins one more time =) /mute humanity Jhin

I'm kinda on the opposite spectrum; I main thresh and cant stand whn my adc cant farm for shit. I dont ask for like 8-10/min, just out cs the enemy adc, and dont trade like an idiot.

Or when your adc will not let you stack and does not understand its skill with Thresh it does not execute.

I hate relic shield honestly. I dont like the "sit back and lasthit for my boosted carry". I take my MS quints, firstbuy mobis so i can snag some assists mid. Then before the talisman cd nerf, id take it so we can snowball our lead with more picks. Now i dont feel liek talisman is as worth as b4 (i like the armor tho).

Relic is kind of bad for that, IMO. I find Thresh too all-in for relic and item 3303 might even be better for him in some lanes.

I prefer using it on an offensive AoE support that won't want to trade too often / needs a little tankiness. Nami Vladimir Sion Pantheon

Would be nice if I could get some answers to my question... I understand that supports sometimes get frustrated with their ADC, but thats not what this topic is about. This topic is about the bottom 10% of supports I encounter in Silver/Gold MMR normals, and how to not auto lose lane when I get them.

tell the guy to play safe behind you or ask him to leave lane and go gank.

if he's constantly getting caught you're not going to get anything useful out of him like lane pressure. better then guy soak up his level 6 xp and go roam.

Unfortunately, bot lane requires on synergy and it's just sometimes not there. You can do some little things though.

If your lane buddy is too aggro:

  • Ping your summoner CD (Heal in particular). Some people still don't pay attention to this and play as if you always have summs up 24/7. Pinging stuff like mana % and ult timer is pretty useful as well.
  • Tell them to play safer if they keep getting caught. "Stay behind minion line if you can," is usually a good way to start if they keep getting hooked.
  • Ping them back. Tell them you just want to farm if you don't want to all in.
  • A bit off topic, but whenever you see the jungler anywhere else on the map (i.e. their jungle or roaming river) ping their location. That way, you might be able to improve your support buddy's map vision if they themselves didn't see the jungler and maybe they won't try to engage too hard.

If they're too passive:

  • Basically just CS as best you can. Use the blue ping if you want to all in. There are certain people who will follow up, and if they don't, just keep that in mind next time you want to initiate a fight.
  • Poke when you can, but if your partner's too passive, keep in mind that poke =/= trying to kill. Just whittle them down and make the enemy duo not want to all in.

The on-going Relic Shield issue:

  • Ping things like Cannon Minions and Melee Minions so that your support knows that it's okay for them to go for it
  • If you notice them missing a lot, just try to CS as usual. If you get they get the execution off, cool. If not, you get the CS anyway.

tl;dr use pings if you don't wanna type stuff out. It's generally easier and besides, Riot's finally added ways for us to ping CDs. Just don't overdo it, one or two is fine. Good luck on the Rift.

As a Support main, soon to be plat V, let me shed some light on the topic.

  1. Thresh has a hard time procing relic, since he is considered as a semi range rather than melee, therefore; since his ad ratios are low he is more likely to miss the cs. This is key for both the adc and support to understand. So I would suggest either going Braum, naut or the Troll King himself to avoid this issue.

  2. Unfortunately, support mains are not seen that often, same as seeing a good adc who can dodge hooks and snare while being able to cs.

  3. Blitz is a joke at higher elos. Since we understand the concept of how to use the cs wave and make sure we are at good distance from him when he decides to rush in. I main both Zyra and Naut support. I have an much easier time with naut vs blitz then with zyra vs blitz. But my tactic are as followed. I stand pretty much parallel to my adc at all times making sure that at least the cs wave is blocking. Should blitz come charging and land a hook on my adc, I return the favor. I snare with my two plant on their adc. After a few tries blitz will eventually give up and they will farm under the turret. This is were you can tell if you have a good adc or a mediocre one. A good adc will never get hooked under the turret while a bad one will get over zealous

  4. If you see a blitz support play ezreal, lucian , cait, or some adc with some sort of escape integrated into his kit. Also dont be afraid to farm under your turret. Wait for your jungler to come help if you are struggling

I can't help but feel that you didn't actually read my post. I'm aware of Thresh's difficulty in procing relic shield - the one I was talking about was missing every one, yet still going for all of them, resulting in me not getting any CS. And I'm not high elo at all lol. Blitz is definitely a pretty good pick in my level games, and I just feel so helpless as an ADC when my support is just dying over and over and over again to Blitz hooks.

I acknowledge that I'm not a good ADC - this topic is about what I can do to minimize the impact of a troll/really bad support. Perhaps later I'll make a new topic for tips on improving at ADC in general.

If your support is bad, then there isn't much you can do about it. You have to accept and stay focused. Don't get pulled into giving the enemy team double kills if your support is constantly dying. If your support has trouble last hitting with Relic Shield, then do what Rosaline says and ping the cs you want him to take. Ultimately, there is no guarantee he'll take it. That's just how it is. Stay focused. The worst thing you can do is tilt because of your support.

Get a duo buddy. YOu will eventually meet atleast 1 good support, ask him to duo. GGWP

opposite for me. I get shitty adcs who can't farm and who are mentally disabled and I get banned for their shityness.

If you are so bothered to come to the boards and complain about the supports then a duo lane is probably not for you anyway lol

How come? Duo lane sounds like a great idea if I had friends

Roadkill74661 votes

Because the duo lane gets a lot of attention and it's 4 peoples mistakes to keep track of and potentially punish. It's a lot more complicated than just "bad support"/"bad adc". If one is so quick to say this lane sucks because of my teammate it's not worth the struggle of having to work with said teammate all game to begin with.

What about Anivia ADC so you can wall your support off from running under turret?

But in all seriousness, thanks for the suggestions, guys. I think Ill never play bot lane again.
