Kog'Maw should have a stronger R and a weaker W

Kog R is what makes the champion look unique on paper - it appears to be one of those super-low CD abilities that become a DPS source, like Ezreal or Karthus Q.

Functionally, however, Kog'Maw's power budget is sunk nearly 100% into right clicking with W. His second-ranked ability, Q, is likely only ranked second because it gives attack speed. The ult is only used to execute when out of auto range, because it does terrible damage when they arent low health and has a ridiculous Kassadin-esque ramping mana cost.

I think Kog R should give him movespeed on landing, and strengthen his next autoattack against enemies hit by it. In return, W would be weaker. The champion was much more interesting when he built Triforce and wove in R inbetween autos.

his E should also have a unique effect that makes him skilled to play beyond a fcking slow field his E is never invested points in, not even a single one it costs 80 mana at lvl 1 and does nothing but a 20% slow at lvl 1

His ult sounds cool on paper:

  • aoe damage+reveal for a long duration in game, it costs too much mana and takes too much time to deal damage so you don't use it in 1v1, you only use ult to reveal or to snipe someone far away

Kog W should lose a fuck ton of power

But riot went "Nop, it's healthy to rightclick from 700 range so we buff his W"

Riot absolutely HATES AP Kog due to him being largely non-interactive unless you've got the right comp to push him off objectives.

However, giving his Ult a spellblade type effect on spell hit would allow his Ult to be buffed considerably akin to the treatment Nid got on her Spears. Workable? Maybe. Personally, I would love to see his Q remade to focus heavily on the resist shredding aspect at the expense of his 'Press W to Win'.

One way or the other, Kog needs a remake. He has needed one for quite a while now. Since his only balancing levers are 'more damage' or 'less damage' even small changes can launch him into the gutter or OP-land.

I wanted to talk about this too but wasn't sure how to do it. Think about some of the older ADC.

Ashe

Not the strongest in any aspect, but has her own strengths. Vision and map play, her ult transformed any team composition she played in. Until characters like tahm kench came around, and spellbook cleanse, now she's literally worthless. But the way her IDENTITY existed and shifted the game.

Corki

A relatively strong early-mid game, but he transformed as a hero once he hit 6. This is the Corki kit that everybody liked, the constant zip zap shoot 'em up always be poking. But then stuff like constant overhealing and shielding kinda made his low poke numbers meaningless. But the way his IDENTITY existed and changed over the course of the game. From strong, to really strong, to weaker than an average ADC.

Vayne

True damage on multiple auto attacks, but only ever on one target at a time, it lacks fluidity but has purpose. The closest to an assassin the ADC role has, I would say, more so than twitch. And she has a very obvious point of power as well, when she uses her ultimate, her real slipperiness is unlocked. And it lasts a very short time, and she goes back to being relatively less executable in most situations than other ADC's, who can simply "hit whatever's closest" without actually worrying about how that ruins their dps if they change targets. Hurricane almost completely bullied her out of the meta because it's optimized against her.

Ezreal Obviously, his identity has remained well in tact over the years. The "no crit" adc who excels by just being annoying. Useless from behind, oppressive from ahead.

Yet I came to the same realization when I got to KogMaw

His identity exists from lvl 1. Just get stronger when you press this button. What? Why is that fun or exciting for anybody? His R has gone from "Trinity force kog likes to weave spells and attacks" to "never cast this really" it doesn't influence his playstyle whatsoever. And that's because he has no playstyle. There is nothing you can do as a kog'maw to distinguish yourself, because all immobile ADC's have to worry about positioning. Every Kog'maw simply presses W. there's nothing.... else. He just always gets better, so why take a character who has spikes, or peaks, when you just _scale with the enemy? _

I'd actually wager that Kog would be more balanced if he was to become an AP artillery mage.

Every time he's balanced for being an ADC it's around pressing his W, A clicking and then AFKing to make a cup of coffee whilst he mindlessly autos everything.

Damn I miss AP Kog.

I only agree if e loses base damage and slow strength and R gets a more prominent hic up at the end of it. E needs those nerfs either way i 'like' how its not throttled for how many champions it can potientally hit much like Xerath's q and W. wile ivern E and reksai q is.

ADCs as a whole should have more power in their unique abilities and less in their right clicks. Right clicking should be the fallback for endgame.

He used to have a stronger r and weaker w. Then they reworked him. Then they 'reverted' the rework. But kept his shit R intact. Lol.
