How to Handle Feeding on Your Main

SteelMankind··27 votes·4,302 views

Something that's bothered me for a while is my reluctance to play a champion again after having a bad game with them. I'll spend hours learning their mechanics and practicing them, and enjoy many games with them, but once I have a single bad game, I can't bring myself to play them again. It's as if I'm reliving that one bad game every time I play them afterwards. Does anyone else have this issue?

It's called tilt, taking a small break can help get over this mental block.

It happens to me too. I main Azir and feeding in lane is a relatively rare thing for me but it does happen. When it does, I go on heavy tilt. I an unable to play correctly after that. The solution is to simply stop playing. Usually 1/2 hr is enough time for your mind to reset and you can play like normal again. But whatever you do, do not play immediately after. I can feed 0-7 on Yi and still be as jolly as a pig in shit but if I do this with my main, my state is wrecked. I have no idea why or how to keep it from happening.

The only rare occasion I don't tilt is when I'm trying some new shit like a new build or runes or something like that. I expect to do badly.

Ikr same thing happened to me with sion. I dropped two divisions once from the tilt b1-b3 feelsbadman but hey I got back up so whatever

I just shrug it off because you can't "win" and do well every game.

Yes, I often have times where I just look like an intentional feeder as Lulu support, though it's one of the only things I play.

Just take a break, such as play someone else. When you're "feeling better" again, go back to your main and often you'll just play better.

I agree with this. It happens to all of us, even pros. For your specific issue, it's really just something that you have to say "ok I had a bad game, but it's gonna happen from time to time." If it helps, you can maybe record your games and in a really bad game, rewatch it to see what went wrong.

This has been happening with me with Morgana this ranked season. I have so many games on her, she's my main alongside Soraka. But this season, I have a 17% win rate (1-5) on her. And it feels really painful. But I just need to remember "not every loss is your fault."

Orianna is your main. Take pride in that. And take the good games WITH the bad games because you actually do learn a LOT from losses as well.

Mid lane is a pain in the @$$ in general to be honest, some of the most painful to play against champions reside there (Malzahar,Fizz, Zed, ect.), and you usually get camped the hell out of the enemy jungler because maybe YOU picked a fun/anti-fun to play against champion, and they try to shut you down hardcore. A reason why I am a jungler main instead of a mid main is because mid lane just screws me over. I get behind one kill and try to farm to catch up for the missed gold and exp, and my team starts team fighting in mid and taking my cs. I absolutely hate to be honest. Relating to your topic and also to what XelNiya said, if you expect the worse and it comes out better, no matter how slightly, it could prevent some tilts. TL;DR: Assume the worse and always be happy when the better happens. Also, try to changing champions in the same lane for a while if it bothers you that much.

I am a Garen main and have lost to a AD Top Leblanc with Fervor of Battle. Like I went 0/4 in lane or something like that.

Just admit that that person was better than you. In every single way. The enemy team was so much better than you that they could take LB AD top and still beat you on your main. You need to improve even more. Even more than you have been.

Mid main btw

Mid lane feels like a grand stage sometimes, feeding here can possibly impact the game more than top or jg, it's understandable to feel tilted after a bad game mid. I can't tell you how hard it was to start playing TwistedFate again when every match mid was against an assassin of some sort, I hate rushing Zhonya's...

Getting camped by a TF isn't fun so i always make my best to rek all the TF's i play against.

I understand, a good TF is hell because he basically adds +1 to every lane. Good thing I'm not a good TF :)

As an Ahri main (so unique, I know), I've experienced both extremes of the spectrum. I'll have games where I go 23/2 and others where I'm 0/13, and both have very different impacts on how I feel about playing again, ESPECIALLY the bad games. I end up feeling like a colossal failure, like I don't deserve to have a main at all. At times like that it's best to just play a different champ (or ARAM like I do) and unwind. Realize that you can't be perfect, even with the champion you consider your best. Besides, if you were perfect, it would get rather boring to play them :P

I used to have that problem, but it stopped once I realized that I can improve my gameplay on that champion after having a bad game. I would suggest that you play normals and worry about winning rather than having a good personal KDA. I would also suggest playing without doing risky plays, which will ensure a better score. And since you main mid, I would suggest that you play mages and not assassins, and maybe you already do. I suggest mages because most can focus on farming and scale super hard just off of that.

I have this problem with new champions I get. I picked up Gnar recently and just fed I think I went 1/5 that game and I have a difficult time playing these champs again even though it's one of my first games with them.

That said whenever I end up feeding in top (Darius main here) I seriously reevaluate my life. It happens, but the thing I look at is that as long as I didn't single handedly drag my team down throughout the rest of the game I chalk it up as an ok game. Not to mention I've been counterpicked by Teemos almost every game, but it's not actually that bad of a lane considering most of them aren't great.

Only Play Darius1 votes

Convince yourself that you got hard counter picked. That's what I did my last ranked game after losing lane as Darius vs. Quinn

Thanks for the replies, guys. Just to clarify, however, my reluctance to play the champion again after one bad game is PERMANENT. Around this time last year I was an Orianna main. I had player her exclusively from level 8 to 30, she was the first champion I ever bought, I had about 200 games with her under my belt. Had one bad game, haven't touched her since. I understand going on tilt and taking breaks, but I think my issue is different.

I usually just spam other random shit until I get over it.

I however absolutely love my main. Anivia is love. Anivia is life.

i mean as a Sona main :v if i die its either i missplayed or im not roaming enough to help my team. i know sometimes i can get really ballzy and it gets me killed but if your not doing so well play another champ or do something off meta with your main in normals so you can get your groove back. times i do Irelia AP , full AP Malphite support , or tank Sona . you never know you may get a good laugh and kill your tilted mood, just my opinion

That used to be why I didn't play much PvP SR. When I would play my main then have a really bad game, it would make me not want to play again for ages. Now a days I'm not more confident in my playing, but I know I play passively enough that normally I won't end up feeding. I'm pretty much at the point of being (for lack of a better term) the middlest of middle class players. If my team is doing bad, I'm going to do bad. If my team is doing good, then I'm doing good. There is never any real in between for me .__.

If the game went south because my ADC was retarded, or one of the laners screwed up, etc. then it doesn't bother me. Games where we just straight up get outplayed, though... it's especially bad on supports like Soraka or Vel'Koz, where there isn't a lot of flashy visible playmaking.

Just switch to your secondary favorite and play a match, or go chill on ARAM.

I used to play Nami VERY aggressive in lane, too aggressive. I got caught out and killed for it a lot. This sparked me to devote myself to more efficient trading and better positioning/spacing. Now even in games that I lose I am almost always the lowest number of deaths on my team. I don't play her much anymore as my new (and probably permanent) main is Bard. The same concept applies however.

If you really love a champion you should strive to push them to their absolute limits, and never get one particular game get you down. Instead use those bad games as wake-up calls that there are things you can and should be doing better, and improve upon those things.

I'm a smoker (i know it's bad) but having a cigarette after a bad game really helps me forget about the shit game i just played, helps me refresh myself and get ready for more games.

Arakadia1 votes

Same here. I clean out my backpack after a bad game. I'm pretty sure cigarettes are a bit more then just bad btw.

I won a 1v1 as Riven once in the first 10 minute.

needless to say the entire enemy team ganked me.

I had a 10 game losing streak on Syndra when i started playing her again, after the 3rd defeat in a row, i just put on some classical music and went 'alright, time to not care about the outcome of the game, and just care about playing the best I can' and I focused on not missing any creeps in lane, landing my harass combos, and watching the minimap more to warn my team of my opponent roams and enemy jungle ganks after 7 more defeats, I finally won a game and since then went back to 50%winrate on her and generally good performance even in defeats So I basically practiced non-champion-specific things to become a better player in general while playing the champion i was rusty and uncomfortable on, that had the side-effect of making me much better on ADC as well since I tend to watch out for jungle ganks a lot more now when I play that role, and I look to group more often instead of 'doing my own thing' as a toplaner

Last game I was playing Jayce, and I was doing really well. At 40 minutes in, I recalled too close to the enemy team, got flash Blitz pulled, and lost off of it.

Tell me how I can possibly play Jayce again. If I picked him now, or a year from now, I would be reliving that throw.

After reading all of these comments, I decided to give positivity a shot and return to my girl Orianna, After three weeks of relatively successful normals (I was getting matched up with mostly plats/diamonds even though my rank is silver II) I played against an Annie who got three solo kills on me. Three solo kills. THREE. There is absolutely no way to justify me playing Orianna ever again. I have no clue how people delude themselves into thinking they deserve a second chance after losing so hard with their best champ.

I play yasuo I have about 130k mastery on him and I still feed my ass off sometimes. Bad games happen. If ya need to you just play the champ that beat you so you have a better understanding of what happened at both sides
