Xin's eventual rework should make him feel like a polearm-user

...by giving him a unique autoattack mechanic (think Kalista) designed to kite other melee champs as a melee champ. Right now, the only gameplay connection Xin has to using a spear over some other weapon is his 175 range autos instead of the standard 125.

How cool would it be if Xin was this high-skillcap champion who could damage melees without getting hit himself if micro'd well, instead of the stat-check mess he is currently? I'm thinking something along the lines of a narrower Camille W, or Yasuo Q, replacing his autoattack, not just 250 range autos.

Riot already confirmed this update is going to be on the smaller side. What we know so far is:

Q is roughly the same W is a new skill E is roughly the same. Ult is roughly the same.

We know his W Is now going to give Xin players more skill expression. We also know the passives from the old W will be moved around his kit. His passive is likely changing to support the latter.

How would this be any different from pressing R on aatrox and trying to kite a melee champion? This concept doesn't work.

In a Reworked Xin Zhao kit, would moving his R to Q/W/E be plausible? Given it'd probably come with some changes to the amount of effects it provides.

Great idea

However i feel like this mechanic could also work well for the eventual Irelia rework. Due to her telekinetic blades, it would make sense for her to send her blades out and attack while she is not direct in harms way.

Xin's rework is basically Yasuo ???

Xin right now is just a glorified battering ram.

I wish they'd put these resources onto any of like 10 champs whip need it more. I like win Zhao as is

Pretty much seems like it'd be Jarvan's Q, but I imagine it'd do something else. He's supposed to be a diver, so it kinda messes with the ideas that polearms bring in. Like I could imagine him being this debilitating precision fighter kinda like Camille, but then you have to work diving in there.

What if Riot made his Q increase his aa range or something like that?

I'm thinking it would be something like this:

Xin lunges out with his spear dealing physical damage to the target.

The target is now marked allowing Xin to auto attack the target with increased attack range and also resets his aa timer.

So his basic combo in lane would be aa Q aa.

Edit: Q should have the aa reset not the auto attack afterwards.

This sounds awesome as a full VGU making him into a skirmisher, but I don't see it happening for his small update. Maybe when they revisit him later for a VGU.

Zhao could use the cool auto animations Kayn has.

Kinda cool, but hard to balance concept. range that lies in between melee and ranged is hard to deal with in lol, mostly becuase the stat difference between melee and ranged isn't really big so there is little room in between. The issue that this causes is that you either have basestats similar to melees, which means he just fucks them hard as he can kite them AND stand his ground once they close in, or you put the stats closer to ranged champs which is more balanced vs melees but gives you alot of issues vs ranged champs that still have a huge advantage over you. Graves, Urgot and to some extend Yasuo are good examples that share that issue, they usually end up beeing a total nightmare to face for melees if they are strong enough to be meta in high elo.
