Is Galio the only melee champ who has 0 synergy with AA?

SteelMankind··45 votes·3,411 views

As in, has no AD scalings, no AS/AD steroids, no on-hit effects, no auto resets, and no abilities that trigger off of auto attacks. I cant think of a single other melee champion like that.

Not that this is a bad thing - pretty cool how a melee champ is 100% ability-focused, if you ask me.

Nope. Abilty power, MS, Armor, MR, Health and Mana Regen/5, doesn't give AD.

Sire Hippington8 votes

Yea, once upon the time this was the case, but the ult has been changed quite a long time ago, as useing alot AAs just doesn't fit Singed's playstyle.

You mean the Sky-auto? It's just an AA while the guy you are flipping is still in the E animation, doesn't seem that relevant.

was meant as a reply to Don Cingulum, idk why it made it a reply on this one

Sky autos, while not necessarily intended, are a synergy in singed's kit.

I like that Galio is melee, it fits with him being a magical-tank.

Ralanr5 votes

It'd be better if more than just his ult encouraged him to go into melee range. Hence the rework.

If he were made today, his ult would have some passive that increases his auto damage. :^)

Maybe a strategic mobility skill, too. Those have been popular lately.

Zac and Amumu Maokai unless you count their passives

I count amumu and maokai passives. Zac is pure abilities though, not sure why I didnt think of him.

Not even his AA animation has synergy with his AA, he looks dorky af when attacking.

Worst feeling ever though, being killed by a Galio aa

Sire Hippington4 votes

he and singed, though singed atleast has the melee ranged fling and mostly just runs around for damage, useing any AAs generally is wierd on singed as he's best off running close to his opponents, but just out of range. And he once had a strong AA steroid on his ult.

Zac also has no AA synergie, but like singed, he needs to walk around alot in fights to get his passive blobs, so stopping for AAs doesn't fit that well. Also, his Q feels a bit like a AA and his W rewards him for sticking in close range, which also means he can easily sneak in AAs every now and then so he still feels quite meele

There are also some other with no AA stuff in their kit, which theirfor scale off ad and thus profit alot from AAing.

And there is Kata, though she kinda automatically AAs after E, and she generally needs to go in meleerange to do stuff, so it doesn't feel wierd.

On Gallio, the melee AAs just feel wierd, outside of his ult every now and then, he has ZERO reason to ever go in melee range. It's imo a big part of why gallio feels a bit off and has such a low playerbase. For me, he would be alot more fun to use if my AAs actually did something, so i get more rewarded for getting close AS A TANK/OFF-TANK.

I have said on numerous occasions that Galio should have passive on-hit magic damage that scales with his magic resist, possibly receiving some sort of steroid whenever he uses W, or takes magic damage from an enemy.

He's more melee than Kayle, but less melee than Rumble.

There are a few others, namely Singed and Zac, but I agree, it's interesting to have a melee champion who doesn't have some part of their kit directly tied to their autoattacks. Generally, I think autoattacks should be worth using on their own without additional incentive, and one way of going about it could be through large amounts of base AD, but some champions may not even really want to attack that much in combat (Zac, for example, would rather move around to collect his bloblets). In his current state, Galio doesn't really have anything to do besides autoattack in-between his relatively large downtimes, but perhaps that might change after his upcoming VGU.

Champion Skin2 votes

Well Galio doesn't have much incentive to stay in combat/melee range does he? Isn't he just better off using Q (+ E) from range and just keeping a distance until his cooldowns come back up (unless going all in with R of course)

Teridax681 votes

Q and E both cost a fair bit of mana, though, so if you want to really push an advantage in trades you're better off trying to land some autoattack if you can, especially since your W gives you a pretty large trading advantage. He's not the best basic attacker, but he's not the best at a distance either.

Galio is a "Hold lane, build ZZrot. Poke and wait for the team" kind of champ. His entire laning phase is just to stay alive and hope to get zzrot before other lanes fall. Then gank lanes with ult.

Teridax682 votes

This is true, and his relative lack of usefulness during the laning phase is likely one of the many reasons why he's getting reworked. Galio's low mobility and lack of range means going in to autoattack is fairly impractical, even though he also lacks the mana to be able to consistently poke from a distance. He needs to autoattack if he wants to properly win trades, but more often than not, he doesn't really have the means to do so.

Singed Zac

Singed throws people and Zac has two very short-range abilities, though his W is still yet much worse off than his Q.

Edit: I read the OP as though he meant 100% ranged ability focused.

Nickfer25101 votes

The only reason I think Galio was made a melee champion is so he could have MR per lv in order to fulfill his role as an off-tank mage. But yeah, melee AAs just don't fit him in his current kit.

YumaS2Astral3 votes

He used to not have MR per level, despite being a melee champion.

CrazedPorcupine3 votes

Except Galio didn't originally have MR/level, he was one of the many melee people who didn't have it until a few years ago when riot was like, we'll give it to EVERYONE who's melee.

Have you heard of tanks Alistar Singed Zac

Teridax683 votes

Alistar now technically has an on-hit effect with his new E (getting 5 stacks gives your next basic attack bonus damage and a stun), but otherwise yes, neither Singed nor Zac have any additional incentive to autoattack.

Well technically she could proc her Q with an auto, but it was rarely ever worth it against champions, only minions.
