Am I the only one who doesn't want an full evelynn update?
Better strap in, this is gonna be a long one. I wanted to address this, as there's been talk lately about Evelynn and what might happen to her in the future.
First of all, I want to precisely and clearly establish what I'm getting at. Do I think eve needs a visual/audio update? Yes. Very much so. (Especially if this means that she'll get skins again) Do I think her lore needs work? Very much so. Do I think she needs an actual rework? No.
Eve, in terms of her kit, IMO, is honestly pretty ok. Pretty much everything minus the ult seems to fit her theme of shadowy assassin pretty well. Nothing in her kit is particularly weak, or particularly strong. Though her ult seems a little funky regarding her theme, it enables her to play the way she wants to, while having strong and weak points. Her kit allows her to be built in a multitude of ways, such as, for example, jungle attack speed on-hit eve, or top lane AD bruiser eve, or the regular AP-ish-kinda-tanky. (Side Note: I've actually played all of these recently. They all work pretty decently.)
On top of that, she has something that many champions today, especially the more recent ones, cough EKKO cough, seem to lack, which is clear and defined weaknesses. She starts out very squishy, with a poor clear, and though she has decently high burst, provided you have some damage items, with her E+Q, these are both short range, and puts most of her damage output onto a single champion. She has a significantly riskier play-style than most assassins, as her only mobility tool is her W, which might be able to cleanse slows, but does nothing for snares/stuns, ensuring that if she tries to come murder you, you still have a chance to CC her and get away/murder her. She doesn't get to pull any shenanigans like Lb or Zed, dashing in and murdering everyone with a rotation of spells before blinking back to safety. And if you get away from her, you actually GET AWAY from her, as her only long range ability is her ult, which does % current health damage, and thus, is almost useless for finishing off enemies. She requires decent decision making skills and awareness in order to be played effectively.
And now, the big problem everyone has with Eve. Her passive.
Now I won't lie, the passive is really strong. It allows you to circumvent most wards, while ensuring near-infinite mana. It's ability to enable Eve to make flashy plays and lane ganks and such is crazy. But frankly, without this passive, Eve would be terrible. With no CC, no dash/blink/ect in order to get close and do things, as well as without the mana sustain, Eve would be entirely useless. Is the passive strong? Yes. But fairly so. Pink wards reveal her, and puts her at a major disadvantage, as now the entire map can see her, and generally foil ganks/flanks. And then of course, there's the fact that her stealth is broken when she's in range of an enemy. She doesn't pull a shaco, where she jumps right behind you and proceeds to murder you without you even knowing she's there. So long as you aren't looking at the shop, you'll at least get a chance to react to her, and take necessary action.
TLDR: IMO Eve is in a pretty good place right now, with a kit that for the most part works pretty well mechanically and thematically, and is able to be built and played in several different lanes/with different builds, with a decent mastery curve. Though she could do with some work in the visual/audio and the lore department, she's fine otherwise.
