So. That Zed buff.

OK. So the general thoughts I've seen so far regarding Zed and the QSS changes are ones of general outrage. And for a first reaction that is, well, entirely understandable. However, from what I've seen, the reasons behind this are pretty fair, if you take the time to consider them before you go grabbing your pitchforks and torches.

As of the moment, Zed is one of those champions that can be difficult to balance. Part of the reason behind this is the fact that QSS basically can make his ult useless. Since his ult isn't guaranteed to be of use, Riot has to balance around that, and keeping zed in a state where he isn't murdering but is still viable tends to get rather difficult. This change removes that whole factor from the equation, and now that it's gone, Riot will hopefully be able to make some genuine progress regarding putting Zed back in his place.

However. While these changes will hopefully put Zed on the road to manageability, I do think that immediate nerfs need to come with the QSS changes, because otherwise Zed will simply rampage even harder than he currently is. Are low ELOs gonna see significant changes? Maybe not. But the higher ones where people actually remember to BUY QSS against Zed are gonna see serious problems with him.

Riot. I'm not gonna pretend your balance team is as bad as everyone claims it to be, but really, yall need to put something in place with this to at least help curb his rampage in the meantime.

Thoughts?

Yeah people need to understand that this change makes Zed easier to balance, because now Riot can significantly nerf some of the more oppressive aspects of his qwe spells.

I usually am one of the people who complain about Riot, but in this instance I think they are moving in a constructive direction.

Well, you basically quoted them (which I'm not mad about). I would argue that not only is Zed available for decent changes where a single item doesn't either makes it or breaks it against him, but it also opens up qss for new item building paths. I'm sure we'd all like to see qss used for more than just Merc. Scim. someday

Ehhhh I kinda don't wanna see QSS get more buildpaths. Admittedly I'm biased since one of my favorite champs to play is sejuani, but I still don't really like how it can render certain champions, like Amumu Warwick andSejuani useless, due to their reliance on their ults.

Very true, I'm a jungle Amumu main so I can see how it would ruin a lot of champions. Maybe it is better to keep it for only one item

I'm honestly not worried about Zed. I am worried about Trundle.

So I have level 5 mastery as Zed, and I agree with everything you're saying. He's not really op, at least not compared to many of the op things I've seen since beta. But balancing him around items feels bad for everyone, zed players and victims alike. The problem is that for the correct steps to be taken for balancing riot needs data. Data they will not get due to the fact that even now, he's permabanned.

It is worth noting that the price of item 3157 is going down significantly in the same patch. Food for thought.

Zed is currently my most played at 80k mastery and I just want him to go back to the state before the preseason when he was somewhat underwhelming and was only strong in well educated hands
