If you had to update Vladimir. Wich parts of his kit would stay, and wich parts would be changed?

So I'm pretty hyped about Vladimir. Vladimir I absolutely love his blood mage fantasy :3 I also love beefy champions, so yeah... :p

With the upcomming changes to immobile mages, Vladimir will be one of the champions to receive changes (most likely*) What would you guys like to stay the same? What would you change? What would you get rid of and what would you replace it with? I personally would like his selfhealing to stay, maybe working in another way. So Q could stay but be changed to do what it does in a different way. W should stay, I think most Vlad players will agree with me on this one :P I personally wouldn't mind it if his E would go, it lacks some depth imo, but I don't know what would be a good replacement to it. R could go both ways, it's pretty cool the way it is. I feel like his passive should be more Notable power. It's kinda like ignoring unit collision, it has a lot of power but it's not too notable.

So what do you think? summoner 31

I really like his W. Everything else can change, but I'd like him to keep that.

I also like his ult, but wouldn't mind a new one.

I would mess with the passive but keep it pretty close. Same with his Q. W can stay. Probably new E and ult

Hey, you get it.

I don't really play Vlad, but I would hate to see his w go (I still don't know why I don't hate it as much as fizz)

Sahn Uzal5 votes

Fizz E deals a ton of damage and can go over walls :P Vlad W can't get him out of J4 ult either, nor can he go through Veigar wall summoner 31

Q changed, 100%. It's what riot and most people hate about him.

I've always found that Vlad's core identity is sustained DPS tanky mage. The fact that he heals is his way of having a unique engagement prolonging tool and is central to his identity as well. I say Riot should hammer out this core concept and make Vlad a long engagement, in-your-face fighter and pace out his healing so it's consistent instead of large spikes every Q cast.

Here's a few radical ideas that I know won't get anywhere:

Passive: enemies hit by his abilities gain a stacking debuff that makes Vlad heal when he deals damage to them. The heal would be minimal per stack, but build up to a rather dangerous amount if Vlad is given the chance to stay on you.

Q: targeted (NOT skillshot) blood spike projectile that goes through enemies in the way, dealing less damage per enemy hit and fizzling out if it goes through too many (#counterplay). Low damage, low cooldown, no more heal. Instead, blood is drained into his bloodball (the sphere of blood he carries around) per enemy hit.

W: keep as-is, though the health drained now goes to his bloodball instead of directly healing him.

E: activate to make his bloodball drain the blood enemies close to Vlad every half-second or so. After a short duration, the orb bursts, dealing damage in a small radius around Vlad based on amount drained (to a maximum cap, like Maokai ult). Q and W build up blood even if E isn't currently active.

R: perfect. Keep as-is.

Key points: -Itemization would be virtually unchanged here when it comes to his go-to items. Because of his sustained damage and need to stay in the fight, item 3116, item 3065, item 3151, item 3152, item 3001, etc. would all still find a comfy home in Vlad's inventory.

-Laning as and against Vlad would now have actual interaction instead of "Does his sustain outdo my ability to trade? If yes, stay away. If no, smash his face in."

-Overall gameplay tactics remain relatively similar (dance about and sustain while pressuring key targets).

-His feast/famine Q-sustain-spam gameplay that have made him such a hot mess for balance is fixed through leveling out his power budget across his abilities.

-His inevitability in lane is gone because his Q no longer near-insta-heals a truckload of health on a targeted, unavoidable nuke with an extremely low CD.

-Farming and laning are now considerably easier due to Q hitting multiple targets and E being more of a nuke than a spammable tiny poke.

I actually really like this idea. And now instead of spellvamp making me heal for half of my health every Q cast, I can actually continue to heal throughout the fight, which is good for me because I play aggressive early game which is all about DPS/Healing PS and not about the quick bursts every 5 seconds... bravo!

Miraweave2 votes

Honestly?

Keep some version of his W, fully rework everything else. Vlad's kit is unhealthy to the maximum.

Yeah his ultimate is litterally a plague :^) summoner 31

only his troll pool need to stay, the rest needs to change, more blood, more gore

I would probably target his passive and q. His new Q would have less sustain potential yes, but his new passive would amplify purchased spellvamp while also giving health and ap for each %of spellvamp. This would make it so they can't rush anything but will of the ancients and still be successful early game. That's just what I've found as the problem while both playing as and against him.

eaglei31 votes

I would want to see his spam healing Q be changed into a more meaningful interactive way to heal instead of spamming it fast. Makes laning against him not fun as you are either a champ that can out burst his sustain, one that can sustain with him (I don't recommend since he scales well), or one that cries under tower until the jungle ganks.

Sahn Uzal1 votes

I agree his Q needs to be changed. But I also think it should remain a reliable source of healing. Vlad's super reliant on his heals, taking the reliability away would make him straight out useless I think. :^) summoner 31

In my opionion Vlads whole Kit is replaceable. He does not have ONE spell I would identifiy Vlad with - Vlad is the phantasy of Vampire and Bloodmage, That's awesome but I dont think his kit translates this well.

The only thing I really like is his PASSIVE (and this provides free stats - Riot hates free stats - so byebye) - His passive translates his Identity quiet perfectly. A Vampire gets stronger by draining life force [HP->AP] and a Blood Mages is strenght is not only tied to his pure power but also the resource pool he has to use them. [AP->HP] Second one is discussable, first one should stay. :)

Some of you like W. I guess it fits a Vampire, but it's also a pretty boring spell. It's used to DMG mitigation and as CD reset. Period. It has no gameplay - that's why it should leave. OFC NOT completely - I like the idea and it is a strong ability. Rework it and make something with more diversity but keep the basic idea. :)

Sahn Uzal2 votes

He is not a vampire ._. He's a Hemomancer.. You can have your opinion on his abilities, that's what I act for with this topic ^^ But it really bothers some people when they call Vlad a vampire. He is inspired by vampires and has vampire skins. but he remains a Hemomancer summoner 31

Titanium701 votes

His name is Vlad... he drains Blood... he has a Nosferatu skin... Riot called him a Vampire...

YEP you're right definately no Vampire... sure!

Sahn Uzal1 votes

Read his lore T_T As I said INSIPIRED BY. He is a Hemomancer. summoner 31

Titanium701 votes

I'll never get how people can argue that much about words...

Nah... w/e Phreak called him a Vampire, he has an obsession with blood and drains it from his foes.. that's enough for me to call him a Vampire. =P

Sure no pales, no bats, no garlic... but honestly I dont care! x'D

(And btw: I've made a difference between Vampir and Bloodmage(=Hemomancer) in my original Post. And i acknowedged he shares characteristics. Still.. Vlad is Leagues quota vampire ^^)

Keep most aspects of his passive, Q, and W. Sustain to offset costs on his kit would have to stem from somewhere other than each Q cast, obviously. Would be nice if W AoE size scaled with current health. Give it more reason to be used full HP so its not only saved as a safety spell the majority of the time.

Change E. There's a lot of potential stuff that could go there and accomplish the same thing while managing to make him more interesting.

Change R. Due to the massive potency of his ult, his kit will always remain subpar. If he's ever strong for his kit, his ult makes grossly overbearing. Yes, its a great ult, but its too powerful to go on someone that's intended to be a hard carry themselves.

P.S. His passive has tons of power. If you're building him properly, you're getting 700 HP out of 400 AP. More if you build more. That's pretty significant. The HP->AP ratio needs to be adjusted, though.

Little Stick Man1 votes

keep the pool, maybe change the ult, definitely change the rest

Erockandroll1 votes

Change his Q, obviously. But I keep thinking of using a tether mechanic, as a blood transfusion uses tubes and a pump.

Move his current passive on to one of his abilities. (maybe even on to two of them as his HP and AP scaling can made on two different abilities.)

Now give him a new passive that allow all of his healing to Over heal up to a certain point. (either flat, or a % of max health.)

WarlockLaw1 votes

Passive - I feel he should at least keep his ap to health part tho imo leave it as is

Q - needs some amount of changes. This ability is probably his main balance issue.

W - Absolutely leave it as is. He won't be Vlad without his pool.

E - I like the extra healing from this ability but the rest if it doesn't feel very good. I'd like to see it replaced with something that feels more rewarding or looks visually more impactful that keeps the extra healing component.

R - I feel his ult doesn't really make sense for a blood mage. I don't see how a blood mage would be able to amplify incoming damage. I'd like to see something like a single target debuff that buffs Vlad (kind of like Trundle ult but with different stats). Essentially he drains a target of blood to invigorate himself

Veraska1 votes

I think it'd be cool for vlad to have a new passive that was less about pure stats but more about interactive stats (if that makes sense?)

Like his abilities deal more damage based on his current health, and his spells heal for more based on his missing health, the more blood he has the more powerful he is, the less he has the more he thirsts. Of course this would only work if his healing wasn't based off his damage

Spizzle90001 votes

I wouldn't change a thing, although if I had to, I would maybe make his E a line skillshot with a relatively longish range and large hitbox. He could gain a resource bar similar to Aatrox's: a bloodwell.

His Q would stay the same and would increase the amount of his resource and his W and E would expend it.

Also, I would potentially replace his R with something vaguely like a combination between Fiddlestick's drain and Morgana's R. It would be a tether to all enemy champions around Vladimir, would slow them, deal a large amount of damage and heal Vladimir a great deal while filling his resource bar by x/y/z % (which would probably be based off of his max health). This would really increase the vampire fantasy that Vladimir kinda has as him giving the enemy AIDs (quite literally, when you think about it) to actually draining his enemies of their blood.

I think his W and uliti will stay Everything else will go

Solidair31 votes

Personally I'd like to see his E changed, I find it to be the most boring of his skills.

That said, I could also see a case for his Q, as it leaves him with very little counterplay in many situations

ProfDrDeath1 votes

He'll probably have his passive and Q changed in some way. Maybe his E, too. Although he'll still put emphasis on in-combat sustain.

His trollpool and Hemoplague are two of the more defining/big-momemt things for him, so those are probably going to stay.

Teridax681 votes

I agree with you on pretty much everything you said. Vlad's self-healing is central to his theme and gameplay, his ult is interesting and unique and his troll pool is magnificent. On the flipside, his Q, E and passive are all boring, and lack in meaningful choice and interaction, imo. It'd be interesting if those parts of his kit managed to stay while becoming truly interesting, though I'd be happy to see them be replaced by better abilities and effects.

Shrek Luigi1 votes

I'd remove the Q because it's stale, not fun to play with/against for a lot of people, and is the source of most of Vlad's balancing issues

I'd remove the E because it's an unimaginative wave clear and the +%healing feels like a needless gimmick that only makes balancing his sustain issues more difficult.

The other stuff is probably fine--I really like his Pool, I just find it all very bland and underwhelming for a dude who literally makes people's blood explode so he can eat it.

If I were in charge of reworking Vlad, he'd be a melee-mage freak-of-nature with HP-Regen scaling damage, big bloody fingernails, vampire-like mobility and a completely out-of-place skillshot DoT poke--that gives Vlad a shield instead of HP--to replace that goofy Q he already has.

Health costs should stay. Higher hp costs for high damage is played with in the kit but not explored deeply. The passive makes building items certain items feel so good at least for me W is iconic but maybe too strong but I want to keep it. He should have high sustain of some kind to compensate the health costs. But the sustain needs to be handled differently with both counterplay for the opponent and actual interaction for the player. And his ultimate? While damage amplification is a unique utility it either needs to be made more interesting or I think riot could make something cooler but its fine either way.

If I wanted Vlad to be anything it would be like a juggernaut in mage form. All he does is jump in and try to melt face. He should be weak to kite and cc. I long range adc or sustain cc support like janna would be good picks against him. He should beat other juggernauts with his range but strict carries like Riven should beat him early while super tanks should neutralize or go even.

Im Impotent1 votes

His Q, passive, and his w should stay basically the same.

I want his E to be CC. Like a stacking blood clot sort of deal.

And I want his ult to be a drain. Where he drains the health of enemies caught up in it based on current % health then at the end it pops for missing % health. You can get rid of the damage amp effect.

Gentzer1 votes

Keep W and maybe the ult, as they have some uniqueness, but Q and E pretty much have to change.

Since my last game was vs a vladimir i have a decent idea of how to fix him.

Remove all sustain tripple the healthcost

man that champions is so annoying
