Really? Because with how op.gg has it, out of the top 10 toplane champions, only 3 are ever ranged, with Vlad as the #5 spot, Kayle as #6, and Jayce barely coming in at #10. Kayle starts melee, and Jayce swaps between melee and ranged.

Even Darius - A champion notorious for being hard-countered by ranged champions in lane, is in the top 10 right now.

the fact that Darius is in top 10 shows that win rate means nothing, why? because nothing is meta in plat+

In high elo, only hecarim is considered as a strong melee toplaner with Irelia, Riven is played by mains and that's it

Jayce and Kennen are seriously broken, also most played toplaners in pro. Gnar is shit idk why op is talking about him, and aftershock ryze toplane is ridiculous, finally you have urgot and kayle being decent

I think we have a different idea of what "Played by Mains" means. Pantheon is at a 2% play rate; that is played by mains. Aurelion Sol is a .90%% pick rate; that is played by mains. When you have the second highest pick rate of any top laner, that is no longer just "Played by Mains". The only person who beats Riven currently in play rate is Irelia. But I'm sure that its only mains that play Irelia too, right? And these are just KR stats via OP.GG.

LeagueofGraphs has Riven's Popularity at the highest for top lane, even beating Irelia out. And supporting my idea that "just mains" is around 2%, here is the break down of her stats where it specifically states about 2% of people actually "Main" her: https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/riven/top

Melees in top lane are completely fine. Hell, many of them are even over tuned. They have been for over a season now.

have you considered that riven would be played by more mains than pantheon because she has probably the largest experience curve in the game besides perhaps Ryze?

low pick doesn't mean "played by mains" it means "not picked a lot." average games of players on that champion is a better sample and in that riven is behind, last I checked, only Fiddlesticks

I literally shared a link that broke down her pick rate and such and included a statistic for mains. She's mained by 2.8%. She is not being just played by mains. This is also supported by the fact that she is the highest or second highest picked top laner in the game.

Ranged champions might win the lane phase but they are squishy as heck. 1 gank = rip and they will be much less of a threat for assasins than a tank/bruiser.

A melee champ / Juggernaut such as Garen has 2 winning matchups on top lane... some even matchups and a ton of losing matchups.

Go watch this guy Riste's stream if u dont believe me... the stuff n tricks he has to come up with to stay relevant in the game is hilarious...

honestly he would be a god if he were to gain experience and play an OP in-meta (usually ranged) champ at top...

they do more than that... any time they keep top lane pushed, they can affect other lanes...

Not to speak of tanks. Juggernauts can hardly be played there.
