I was doing my team a favor... By Dodging.

Why should I be punished for it? ... everyone were arguing. I was trying to make the world a better place... by dodging. Everyone were upset. I was helping to relieve their anguish...

And I get slammed with a 5mins penalty. </3

Honestly, waiting 5 minutes is better than waiting for 20 minutes with more salt than the Dead Sea.

You should get free dodges like you do rerolls in ARAM. You spend several games not dodging, it builds up until you get to dodge on for free with no penalty at all. No time penalty to requeue, no LP penalty or loss in your promos. You prove you don't do it very often just because you didn't want to be fifth pick or didn't like that first pick took your preferred role, then you get some leniency when you decide dodging is necessary, like when someone is being extremely toxic before the game even starts.

I wouldn't even mind if the number of games not dodged to earn a free one were pretty high, like 30 games or something. It should probably be less than that, I think, but if that is what it would take, fine. I'd be saving my free dodge for the absolute worst pregame lobbies anyway.

This is actually a neat idea. Wonder if Riot could implement something like that.

Yes please! This is an awesome idea! Sure, there would be more dodging (and, subsequently, it gets annoying if you get about 4 dodges in a row), but I, personally, would just deal with that.

this is absolutely brilliant

Except that you shouldn't get free dodges in ARAM. The game type is random, that means sometimes you don't get champs you want. Why should I lose a cool random because your salty butthole burned through your rerolls? Incredibly irritating.

LeeDark1 votes

I think you misunderstood. You should get free dodges to use in any mode, and these free dodges build up like the rerolls do in ARAM. You complete games, fill up the progress bar, and when it is full, you can dodge. If people waste their free dodge on ARAM because they didn't like their champion, that's up to them. It's a waste of a resource that should take a while to build.

Somewhat good idea only thing is what if you dont get the role you want? DODGE?

LeeDark1 votes

If you want to use your free dodge on something that insignificant. Just means you'll have to put up with the truly toxic stuff or risk punishment later. I'd only imagine getting like 1 free dodge per week, or less.

Blínk Jennie1 votes

Good point but what if its because its just your weakest role? I wouldn't either way but some people would.

Syvenon1 votes

I think that's a totally reasonable reason for dodging. Like if I get stuck with something I'm not very comfortable with and no one else will cover it for me then I would rather just dodge that put myself and my team through me trying to figure out jungle items I haven't read up on yet (because damn they have changed so many jungle items lately I can't keep up x.x)

Shroom Junkie9 votes

And LP if it was Ranked. 20 mins if you did it twice in one day. 20 mins for a few more times. Not sure after that, probably LPQ.

junglerboy162 votes

the time penalty is one thing, but losing LP for dodging is just bad. the only reason that there should be any penalty at all is to prevent people from dodging if they get counterpicked.

Neo Cyrus3 votes

Twice a day regardless of the mode. If you dodge a normal then dodge a ranked match you lose 10 LP instead of 3 and get that same delay as if you dodged 2 ranked matches in a row.

Honestly they need a buffer or token for dodging like they have tokens for switching picks in ARAM.

Hellioning5 votes

Blame the people that would dodge if they didn't get the role/champ they were looking for. Or if the enemy had a champ they considered OP, or if someone picked an off-meta pick, or...

Yeah, the punishment is there for a reason.

Yeah maybe the punishment is necessary, but it sucks if it's your promos and you're faced with the decision of losing the promo from dodging, or losing it because one person didn't get the pick they wanted and so picked bard at the last second to screw the rest of the team over.

Hellioning2 votes

Yeah, but I'm not sure what you could do to stop that situation besides 'stop people from trolling forever.'

If you give people, say, one free dodge per promo series, you have people who complain that they had two champ selects with trolls in them. Give it by time and have people complain that they play a lot and run into more trolls than dodges; give free dodges by number of games played and you get the same complaint from people who don't play too often.

Do you have any suggestions for fixing the problem, or is this just a 'I want to rant' thread?

or they could just implement a vote system to get that one person off and restart the queue, but only if the chat logs have identified certain words or something.

Hellioning2 votes

That's fairly easy to work around. If last pick calls mid, but first pick calls mid, all last pick has to do is lock in a troll pick without saying anything.

There are so many ways to exploit things like this... People would agree to dodge due to hard counters, troll threats, scary enemy comps, etc.

Don't forget that every good player that streams live would probably be dodged every other game.

The current system, in my opinion, is by far the best option. Sure it sucks, but there are enough dodged games as it is. I don't want to encourage more. If the dodge was 1 in 30 games, think about how many would be up at any given time with 10 players per game.

Average queue times would skyrocket... Master and challenger players would be lucky to get 4 games a day.

Syvenon1 votes

I doubt what you say about dodging pro players would happen. These are the people they play against all the time, if they dodge one pro player it's highly likely they'll just run into another. If you're in master or challenger, you are gonna be pretty used to playing against Wildturtle and Dyrus in one of their forms.

I am Ah Pukuh1 votes

I'm thinking high win rate duos (looking at you, Impact and Rush) would be the most likely targeted, especially if they get their favorite champions. It'd discourage high ranking duos from streaming more than any single player I'd think. I don't think anyone gets used to playing against Rush's Nidalee.

I is Illiterate4 votes

To be fair, if everyone had unlimited dodges then it might take 20+ champ selects to actually get into a normals game. No thanks.

However, I still think a dodge shouldn't count as an auto-loss in promos.

rtbf649145953 votes

instead of dodging just play with a champ you haven't played with or want to practice. I don't do bots anymore because it isn't good enough practice. Not realistic but some of the most salty games I won because when they threw trash at me i gave them flowers. Just dont anger them anymore in chat and you might be surprized that you might win after that.

Sad statement about the community.

I think I have dodged less than 3 games in the 3 seasons I have played this game ranked. I'd rather someone get a penalty for dodging than me sit through 25 minutes of champion selects because people didn't get the perfect team.

TotalJerk1 votes

I don't mind the 5 minute penalty, personally. It's enough to deter chronic dodging, but not enough that I feel forced into a game that clearly wont go well.

As for ranked: dodging doesn't affect your MMR.

LeeDark1 votes

It does affect your promos, though.

TotalJerk1 votes

Yeah, that is problematic, but outside of that lots of high ranked players dodge and say that you should usually be dodging least once a day.

Shockforce1 votes

If it does not cost you anything then you are not doing your team a favor.

Irelia Bot1 votes

And in this I am glad I have 4 accounts so I can dodge if it seems like a really bad situation.

3 LP is nothing but if I dodge more then one time in a row then it becomes a problem.

Baby Ghoul1 votes

It's actually 15 mins if you do it twice a day during champion select only.

I know because I often have to dodge blind pick matches once or twice a day because of toxic people or 3 people locking mid. item 3070

i fucking bullshit that riot forces us to be with toxic teams during our promos its all bullshti that i cant just dodge without losing LP riot needs to fix their shit

JCWing1 votes

It's always nice to dodge when someone is trolling FOR SURE!

FriendIy Psycho1 votes

Its not really a punishment in my opinion. Think of it as the games way of NOT matching you up again with those trolls! However loosing LP and loosing a shot in a promotion is stupid.

Cloud Potato1 votes

We're both top lane mains, let's start an argument so we can dodge for free

This is why we can't have free dodges.

5 minutes is hardly a penalty. Go get a drink or something.

5 minutes is hardly a penalty. Go get a drink or something.

Plus LP, the first time you get trolled each day. The second time it's 15 minutes(or is it 30 now?). I don't think it's even worth playing after that because it's not like trolls are that rare.

InsaneSamurai1 votes

They need to implement a report system in champ select. It seems like this is really necessary anyway, but with this you would at least have a way to get out of a game with a troll without being penalized for it. If the report was reviewed and wasn't legit, then just punish the people who abused the system. Seems simple enough to me.

BigPooStorm1 votes

One easy solution is when there is a troll in champ select, have a system where if 3 people vote to exit game, the game ends. Only potential problem would be at challenger ELO where you know who your opponents so it can be abused.

Syvenon2 votes

I think the bigger potential for abuse is if someone doesn't like their matchup (i.e. they picked viegar and enemy picks Zed, the midlaner could just say "I really don't want to fight this, can we dodge?" and then get the team to dodge)

Weasel Kensei1 votes

Yeah, you got a 5 min penalty.. sucks, but the game cant tell the difference between a grenade jumper saving everyone from the miserable 20 min rage fest, and a kid who will dodge every match till they get to be Yasuo mid.....

Meaning that you will not find matches inside of a minute ever if we cant cycle out the dodgers.

If the game could tell the difference, you would have been given a pass, but it cant. Better luck next que.

ElJanitorFrank1 votes

Abuse. There isn't a reasonable enough system (that I've heard about) that can effectively let you leave toxic games, without being abusable.

If you got 3 free dodges every month? Well then they'd be gone in a day or two and you'd have the same problem. You got 3 free dodges every week? If you don't play a lot, this might be your ticket, but now EVERYBODY has a bunch of dodges. You know how many players out there will dodge because their teammate picks an off-meta champion, don't lie to yourself.

There is no real way to give only the good players the ability to dodge and not the bad players. You could give them out based on reports, sure. If someone gets reported, they don't get their weekly dodges. But then, if they are the type of player that you would report, you'd just wind up wasting a dodge on them every time anyway, wouldn't you? That person in of himself is like -1 dodge to anyone who gets matched with him.

In my opinion, 5 minutes is a small price to pay in order to get a second chance for a better team.

TwoD1 votes

you should only get the penalty on the second or third dodge
