The only stat I cared about in Worlds...
Unique Champions picked out of total champion pool...
Unique Champions picked out of total champion pool...
But there were 4 whole support miss fortune bans!!!!!
op wants the game to be balanced entirely around competitive play and have champions that are completely shit in competitive play be so broken in casual play that they get picked in maybe 2 or 3 professional matches a year right next to professional pick or ban champions that are completely worthless in casual
sound familiar?
thats dota2
omniknight has a 60% winrate in every mmr for casual play and ISNT PICKED AT ALL in competitive
earth spirit and oracle are staples in dota2 professional play both rocking 42% and 41% winrates for nonprofessional players
yall want champion diversity in competitive but none of you understand what that means.
what did it take for yasuo to get picked in competitive???? a 56% winrate abusing frozen mallet and phantom dancer. everyone fucking hated it. that what u guys want? yasuo with a 60% winrate and an even higher playrate?
Yep. Like it or not, the only way for a semi-diverse competitive scene is to throw balance for every other form of play out the window entirely. And even in Dota it doesn't fully work; I remember times when things like Storm Spirit or Gyro were everywhere.
No we want yasuo deleted
as for the rest who cares
the yasuo haters on the boards would **undoubtedly **choose a different champion to bandwagon against.
No we will continue to hate him even if he no longer exists
and we will hate the next champion his player base will move onto for reasons
season 6 worlds had almost 20 less champions picked than season 5 worlds despite season 6 worlds had 3-4 more matches
so LUL.
the percentage goes down every season. and that has nothing to do with the total pool being increased as the ratio from season to season per pcked champions isn't even 1 to 1 which means the situation is pretty pathetic.
Season 5 only had so many champions because it was played on the Clownggernaut Fiesta Patch, which was thrown in AS THE SUMMER COMPETITIVE SCENES ENDED, meaning pros had a vague idea of what was good, but no real meta was set because there were simply NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH competitive games played prior to worlds.
They knew what was busted (skarner, morde), but as far as what was viable? Could've been damn near anything.
I'd extend that to include the champions that were picked/banned the most.
The three smallest % of champs existing at the time of world championship were Season 6, Season 1, and Season 4 in that order from least diverse to more.
HUH FUNNY HOW PEOPLE KEPT SAYING SEASON 5 WAS NOT DIVERSE
"Oh I miss ye olde days when the pool as so diverse"
When more than half the seasons before season 5 were actually less diverse
The only reason Season 5 was "diverse" was because everything was so wonky and there were so many overpowered champions that patch that nobody knew how to play that meta at first.
Later in the tournament it was some of the least diverse P/B I've ever seen.
They aren't going to tell us that that easily because it shows their game is broken.
lol what? This stat was available to literally anyone who watched the games and took tallies

Lol what? I said they (as in Riot) aren't going to tell us with a nice infographic. Yeah, you can find it on the wiki, because people went looking for it. Riot did not just give out that only 40% of their 130 champions were picked or banned.
First off that doesnt make sense, it's not some big secret who played what that riot is embarrassed about
Second, when you look at dota and how balance works there for pro level only, solo queue balance is MESSED. So you can choose between >40% picked or banned (which is really not that bad, something like 55 champions over 77 games). or more in pro level and some champs in solo queue have 60% win rates
Do we actually know what that number is? I mean, obviously it was embarrassingly low, but I would be very interested to see just HOW low...
I could be wrong, but I think around the number 28.

56 unique champions pick/banned out of 77 games. Note that the patch they were playing on, Yorick was disabled because he was reworked that patch.
http://lol.gamepedia.com/2015_World_Championship/Champion_Statistics
in the previous season (season 5), there was 74 unique champions used out of 73 games. This was the after the juggernaut patch, everyone assumed skarner was a god, but the pros seemed to believe in darius despite the easy gnar counterpick. Also gangplank and morde stats lul.
and for the helluvit
http://lol.gamepedia.com/Riot_-_World_Championship_2014/Scoreboards/Overview
season 4, 60 unique champions played out of 78 games- note that alistar had that "auto attack after headbutt" which lead to sheen alistar top and was why he had a 100% pick ban rate that season (it got patched out).
so juggernaut meta was better?
I wouldn't say better, and there's a more in-depth comment in the thread. It was less set. With all the changes, no one knew what was viable. Juggernauts, Fiora, and GP were at the top but past that hadn't been found yet.
More that it was a brand new patch that was dropped literally AT worlds essentially (first professional games were played at worlds for that patch) so no one still had any clue what was good/bad.
Not actual gameplay, who cares about that?
What he was getting at was that Riot released all these viewership and production stats, but nothing about pick diversity.
Granted, i can't really blame them since the diversity is pathetic at best.
I've never really liked that argument. For one thing- they might just LIKE certain ADCs more than others.
no, they certainly don't factor that into their picks. They might be BETTER with certain champions than others, and pick someone which other don't because for them they win more (
support) but they do not care about fun. They play exclusively to win
