At this point I would trade Rabadon's to have Deathfire Grasp back

Considering how grossly overpriced and niche Rabadons is, along with the state of AP itemization, it would be a welcome addition for me.

I hate how much boards is over exaggerating this. At most rab cap needs a better build path or an upgrade cost reduction. It's a plenty strong item as it is.

I think it needs the cost reduction more than anything. I don't really see why it's the most expensive item in the game, but not really a game changer. One could argue this also comes down to watch champion it's being built on, but right now I feel a lot more comfy building Void staff than Rabandons. That's just my 2 cents though.

And also as a sidenote, Deathfire was just a far more interesting item to me.

Welcome to the world of stat sticks.

The real issue is people aren't building for high AP, even when they can. Of course RabCap feels lackluster when that's the case. But when I do build it I legitimitely at least get 200-300 AP from it, and, as I (of course) build it on mages that scale rather well, that is a very significant boost to damage.

The only reason that people see void staff as great is because it's basically necessary. That is always a %damage increase as opposed to a scaling damage increase from RabCap. And as most mages have to scale well with levels instead of mainly gold (so that we don't have mages going botlane amirite rito?) as a carry would normally expect, we see people who are torn between relying on cdr and their base damages or their scaling. The thing is, void staff is so strong it basically should always be built, whether it be on someone with no base damages or someone with lots of base damages. But someone with a lot of base damage and lackluster scalings is almost guaranteed to opt out of rab cap (as old AP kog'maw used to do).

People are just so used to it being core on every goddamn mage that when it isn't, they overreact and think it's worthless. As a stat stick, I agree it can feel lackluster at times, but it's definitely bringing a lot of damage to the table.

Not to mention the percent damage reduction stacking meta

I will never understand how mages, of all things, complain about not being strong enough. You guys have assassin's old burst speed/damage, adc distance safeness and crowed control.

I sometimes feel when reading some comments on these boards that I'm not even playing the same game. I didn't imply that mages aren't strong enough, Rabadon's as an item leaves a lot to be desired.

Dude chill, I didn't even say "no deathfire grasp!". I don't give a shit if they add it back, go for it.

Which is why when you go to pro player builds, and game stats site, it is one of the items almost built on all mages at some point in the build.

People are just upset that it's so expensive. Trust me, whining about its price tag is only going to get it to be cheaper for less AP. Because getting upwards of 200+ AP on an item is incredibly stat efficient with a price tag of 3800 (I think?) gold. Even if the 3800 proce tag is incredibly hefty. It does what mages want: have a very slot efficient item.

Rabadons suffers from not having any changes in a looooooooooooong time. There was a point where it's RAW ap was all it needed to be most mids 1st or 2nd item. That was before Morellos gave 20% CDR and Grievous wounds, Zhonya's have CDR and was cheaper, Haunting Guise had something to build into, pen changes, Ludens Echo being introduced, etc etc etc.

Really the item could stand to have some type of update beyond just raw ap to make it a solid choice to try and complete before the game goes an hour long.

Thanks for at least having a discussion about the subject instead of attacking me. I do like your suggestion.

This is why peope laugh at mage mains. Stop making mage mains look stupid please

AstroFerrari 1 votes

Not a mage main, just think Rabandon's is too expensive for no reason. I actually main GP. And maybe these boards would more conducive to making this game better if everyone here didn't have so much venom and vitriol.

Niche? Deathcap?

Deathcap is literally just more AP. It's not as generalist as morello but I wouldn't say it's very niche.
