The cancer that is "figher/assassin"

Complete list of "figher(aka bruiser)/assassins" according to riot games. Fiora Fizz Irelia Jax Khazix LeeSin MasterYi Nidalee Nocturne Pantheon Poppy Rengar Riven Talon Tryndamere Vi XinZhao Yasuo Zed

Extended list of fighter/assassins JarvanIV Katarina Akali Kassadin MonkeyKing RekSai

of that list, you've got Nocturne Poppy XinZhao Tryndamere who aren't considered top be top teir in most cases. (by no means am i saying they are bad, in fact all 4 are quite strong, they just have more obvious and more easily exploited weaknesses)

The concept of a "tank" in league of legends is very vague. It normally means a champion who has a higher ratio of CC to damage than a fighter, without really any more resilience in their kit than your average fighter. The resilience of most tanks is actually almost purely a result of their items not their kit. Slowly over time of the game the line between tanks and fighters has been getting blurred to the point that most can be considered either.

So the line between tanks and fighters is vague in the league, though as the game has developed it's been becoming more blurred, aside from a few specific champions. Braum Rammus Maokai Alistar Galio DrMundo Leona

I believe it was Phreak who said that the archetype of tank/assassin isn't something that fits in the game. Which i would tend to agree, what the roles involve are complete opposites, generally speaking. Tank - low damage, very resilient, generally high control over a fight, low mobility Assassin - high damage, very squishy, singles out a targets, highly mobile

So with fighters becoming more like tanks, that means the fighter/assassins are becoming more like tank/assassins...

tl;dr tank/assassins are bad for the game. the line between fighter and tank is getting blurred fighter/assassins are turning into tank/assassins

sigh

If you actually understood what a tank was, you'd realize how poor this little rant of yours is.

Fighters and tanks are getting further and further away from each other. Not getting blured.

On one side of the spectrum this is true, though on the other it's completely false. It's a matter of riot making champions to re-enforce a specific meta. Do you want a champion's kit made to do a specific job or you want their kit to promote role, preferably without completely removing it's ability to be played in other ways?

While it's very obvious Braum was made to be a tank, riot designed him from the ground up to be a tank/support. It's by no means impossible to play him outside of the support role, but it's hands down far less effective to do so, because riot never intended for him to.

Blitzcrank is a great example of riot making a champion win a kit which has potential, and the community turned him into a support despite being show cased as a bruiser.

That's not really the community's fault. Blitz is best played bot lane with a partner for two reasons:

  1. So his ult wont auto push the waves via his passive.
  2. So that he has someone with high damage to help him capitalize on a good grab.

If he's at top on his own he can't stop his passive from sparking the minions, and he has to wait for a jungler gank to try and grab someone due to his abysmal damage.

Well it is in a way. While he obviously is best in bot lane where he can give free kills to his carry, it's the community that did it so much and pushed him as a support for so long that he is now considered and balanced as one by riot.

The thing is, you can't just make cookie cutter champs. Part of what makes League exciting is the variety of champs available, each with their own unique tricks and mechanics to figure out.

Does this make for a completely, 100% balanced gaming experience every game? Heck no.

But a completely 100% balanced game would be pretty dang dull.

The big picture is simple, a bruiser can't deal the damage of an assassin unless built glass cannon and can't take the damage of a tank without building full tank. Building bruiser means going middle of the road, some damage, some tank, you rely on a combination of your abilities and dps to be a threat because you lack the CC of a true tank and the burst damage of an assassin. While you can compare a bruiser to a tank or assassin, they will NEVER match up to a true tank or assassin so long as a bruiser builds bruiser.

you listed a lot of Assassin/fighters as fighter/assassins.

deadlychuck1 votes

Teemo is listed as a marksman/assassin. Your point? It's called primary and secondary, but really the archetypes they are given is just to give players an easier idea of what their play style is at a glance.

I'm pretty sure most people consider Nocturne a bruiser before they consider him an assassin. Some are just weird Yorick is a fighter/mage, though he plays nothing like a mage really. DrMundo is a fighter before he's a tank.

MrDrBudd1 votes

my point is you are classifying two different classes as one and yes their archetypes are there to give an idea of their play style and an assassin/fighter is played differently than a fighter assassin. also half of yoricks dmg is ap so he is like half bruiser half ap bruiser. same with diana and gragas fighter/mage is an ap bruiser.

deadlychuck2 votes

Yorick literally has a single AP scaling moving and then 4 other AD scaling moves. It's 100% ratio on his W, but that doesn't mean he is an AP bruiser.

MrDrBudd1 votes

he does magic damage with his E. does half magic damage. his only physical damage is his q. he does mixed damage. yorick is a hybrid

deadlychuck1 votes

He isn't AP though, his E scales with AD, AP scaling and Magic damage aren't the same thing. Yes he does hybrid damage, the majority of his damage comes from building AD not AP

Katarina isn't a fighter o.o

deadlychuck1 votes

Well in a few ways she is, she just has the resets and burst that make her an assassin. Her job is similar to any other bruiser, where she wants to be in the middle of a fight to be the most effective. In her case she doesn't want to be the focus of the fight, but she still wants to be right up in the action.

I agree that Fighter/Assassins tend to be on the OP side rather than UP. However I disagree with Riot's loose definition of Assassin. In general an assassin remains out of the fight/in stealth until the opportune moment, takes out his/her target, and leaves.

Irelia is not an assassin just because of one single target slow/stun. Jax is not an assassin just because he can ward hop. Riven is not an assassin just because she has damage and an aoe execute. JarvanIV ...now someone is just trolling.

Shaco Akali Rengar Talon are true Assassins and have very different playstyles than the above 4 champs.

deadlychuck1 votes

Indeed they do, and after akali shroud changes, i'd say that's more true (forgot about those until just now).

Though i'd argue that rengar is more of a fighter than an assassin, mainly thanks to his W. Though one good thing about those other 3 is that they are very much all in and try to get out. That's good design for an assassin. If you want an out as an assassin it should have to be planned, not given to you for free like so many others.

Also those aren't all of my classifications. All but J4 are ones which riot has as fighter/assassin. Though he is still very viable as pure damage as he is tank, and tell me how his 1400 range e/q + r isn't made to single out a target.

Cancer isn't an adjective sir. I'm sure your post said something, but I don't see past the subject.

deadlychuck2 votes

You are correct, it is a noun, like i used it in the subject line.

Cancerous, would be an adjective.

SexyTaylorSwift1 votes

The only "cancer" I see is your incorrect use of the word cancer.

deadlychuck2 votes

cancer referring to a growing probelm

Nasus low damage

Done251 votes

Here's the problem. What people don't realize is that:

  1. The meta is cemented around Marksmen carrying the late game, Marksment get high damage in exchange for low survivability.
  2. Fighters are really good a killing a single target. Which in this case is the Marksman.
  3. Assassins are champions who specialize in high mobility and escapes. Such as: Wukong, Talon, Zed, Fizz, Shaco, Master Yi, etc.
  4. Add together 2+3 and you get the Fighter/Assassin, a great 1v1 champion with high mobility.

The end result of course being that the Fizz will home in on the Ezreal and mop the floor with him. Had Ezreal instead been someone more durable like Udyr or Trundle, Fizz wouldn't be getting so darn fed!

Lol Mundo ain't a tank, bro. Look at his kit and tell me anything that classifies him as a tank. His ult, right? Nothing else?

Mundo is a fighter, with a unique kit that allows him to build full tank while still doing strong damage along with being very hard to kill.

deadlychuck1 votes

This is exactly what i mean when I say very few tanks exist in the game which would actually be classified as tanks. It's just a bunch of bruisers that are built with being tanky rather than killing the target.
