Need new top laners to play

Bent Pixels··5 votes·7,261 views

I love playing in the top lane. The amount of pure power of top lane champions is awesome to play with in my opinion. I am currently a Fiora main but I want to expand my champion pool and learn more. My preferred requirements are...

  • I love bruisers (champions who can handle 1v1s and 2v1s without a problem)
  • I love split pushers
  • I will not play Teemo, Quinn, or Kayle (basically no ranged champions)
  • I don't prefer tanks, but I would give them a try
  • I like champions with a high learning curve
  • I know a little bit of Yasuo, Riven, Illaoi, and I just recently started playing Kled

If you have any questions about my preferences or anything else in general feel free to ask me. If you have an champion suggestions for me, please let me know!

Thanks for reading!

P.S. Current builds and runes on the champion would be helpful too :D

I didn't but I wouldn't recommend Gangplank to a new player

Leftover salt from the long time that GP has been OP i guess.

I agree with Ralanr, GP is great in the right hand, fun to play, has a good topic (hes a pirate whats not to love) and a high skillceiling (ghostbarrel, even if i find that almost cheating) I´d also recomment GP.

he said 'basically no ranged champions', and while GP in theory has melee AAs, he basically is a ranged champion in how he plays, especially duering lane. In most matchups, he only uses his melee AAs to applie the passive and then uses the ms to get away, unless he smells a kill and tries to go all-in after pokeing you over and over again.

Also, not really fitting the bruiser lable and the other picks he plays so far.

I completely forgot about him! Thanks for the response :)

The OG king of 1v2s is Renekton. His splitpushing isn’t the greatest, though, since he doesn’t take towers fast (but he does instantly delete minion waves).

If you’re looking for a good champion who can both 1v2 and splitpush, Nasus is your best bet. His “learning curve” is almost entirely macro, meaning both that veteran players can pick him up quickly and that newer players can learn vital game-wide skills with him. His only downside is that he doesn’t really exist as anything more than a cannon minion until he gets Sheen. Once he has Triforce, t2 boots, half a defensive item, and 200+ stacks, he can easily 1v2 most opponents.

I think Irelia fits most of your criteria fairly well. She's can fight well. She has strong wave clear mid/late game and can probably split push pretty well. She has a moderate learning curve. I think she's fun to play and she's considered pretty strong. You should give her a try.

Thanks for the reply! I have actually played a bit of Irelia and she was fun I just sucked with her. Ill be sure to give her a second change though!

Yorick sounds like a champion that could fit in here. Split pushing bruiser with a lot of damage only the learning curve (mostly: how to handle your ghouls ) is not as high as you might like it

I have found champions like Darius Jax Tryndamere Garen can handle 2v1 and are good in 1v1 with and Garen and Darius have great splitpushing if they build a item 3078

webstar19951 votes

Garen is strong for solo Q but i think he just boring and too simple (coming from a lvl 6 mastery Garen lmao)

Metro Man2 votes

I just play garen as a counterpick to champs like Riven and Yas Top and I have found that he is a good champ if its 3 AM and you just need to turn your brain off for a bit

Panth is a cheese champ but he wins against almost every top laner and counters teemo/quinn (if you dont like them) he is almost pretty good against Akali and Yas. Renekton is my fav bruiser if you really want a 1v2 champ. His healing and dashes make for great outplays. He counters Darius, Riven, and Fiora so thats good....also can beat Teemo post lvl6 pretty easily.

Renekton is one of the best champ I've played.

Fiora can split can 1 v 1. if you are fed enough, can 1 v 5 even. decent learning curve and very rewarding once you master

Darius is a pretty good bruiser and top tier at the moment. Plus he's fun to play from my experience

Camille is good from what I understand and with her items I think can split push pretty well and has a high-ish learning curve

Fiora is just a dueling, split pushing monster

Tryndamere is the literal definition of split push and (while I hate it/him) his ult can be good for 1v1 or even 2v1 in some cases

Yorick might be the best of what you're looking for in terms of split pushing and a bruiser

Sounds like these guys are the champs you wanna play to diversify your champion pool.

Also nobody's said Trundle yet so, Trundle.

play proxy smite tryndamere, its the most fun you have ever had playing league when you get decent at it.

If you want to be slightly off meta:

Diana can work great with an ap bruiser built(item 3115 item 3001 item 3068 are great options) and catches most peiople off guard as they have no experience playing vs her, and if you get ahead you can easily splitpush and 1v2 She seems somple, but there are alot of small things that make a big difference for her especially in toplane, so she has a supprisingly rewarding learning curve.

Vi also is very underestimated as a bruiser top that can become supprisingly strong if you are experienced on her

For more meta conform picks:

Poppy would be a great bruiser/tank hybrid that you can use to complement teamcomps while still haveing a strong lane and bruisery feel. She also can work with somewhat agressive builts, especially if you get a lead.

Jarvan is a solid bruiser top that needs some experience to be a strong laner but comes with the benefit of incredible potent roams and teamfighting

Camille basically is THE bruiser/skirmisher for people that like a high skillcap, she's very versatile and incredible strong once you mastered her, amongst the best splitpushers/duelists in the lategame, nearly on par with fiora, but also with strong teamfight potential and powerfull roams/skirmishes thx to her mobillity and the ult lockdown.

Jarvan, wukong, trundle and renek are are also great, but require a bit of knowledge on matchups to consistently do well with.....if you play Fiora this shouldn't be too foreign of a concept. Picking someone like trundle or renek in particular into an unfavorable situation can be a complete nightmare.
