New Shaco isnt as bad as everyone thinks.
Shaco is my 2nd main and i have also been messing around with all the other reworked assassins on both PBE and live for a little bit. out of all the assassins i have messed around with, shaco felt the best and played the best. the only issue that irritated me with shaco was his boxes not stacking and getting 1 shotted by turrets, but honestly those are nitpicks.
im probably going to get chewed out by other shaco mains and Shaclone fans for saying this, but all you need to do is GET USED TO CHANGE. the new shaco is very dependent on his backstab damage. half of his kit was changed in order to drive this new backstab mechanic. Many people dont understand this and its pretty annoying because everyone is blindly following Shaclones RAGE FILLED video. Again, i know im going to get chewed out by Shaclone fans (even tho im a shaclone fan myself) but his video is just so fucking full of errors. Everything he did, right down to the skill order, was just wrong.
To put this into perspective, he was playing the NEW shaco exactly the same as the OLD shaco. this is a problem most mains have when their champion gets reworked, and i get it, its habit. However you cannot chew out a champion and deem them as useless WITHOUT FIRST trying to play it correctly. That is just stupid. you cant play new kat the same as old kat, it wont work. you cant play the new LB the same as old LB, it wont work. Same goes for shaco, you can not play the new shaco the same way as the old shaco. I cant make this point anymore clear.
If you guys want to say the new shaco is weak after playing him CORRECTLY, then hey thats fine, but i promise you that it wont be NEARLY as bad as shaclone and other hardcore mains makes it seem. With that being said, i am going to try and explain how to play the new shaco and how not to play the new shaco.
How NOT to play the new shaco:
-
do not waste your Q amp by hitting a target from the front, side, or any place that isnt the back. if you Q in and you hit a target from the front then you have missed out on a large part of Shaco's damage. By doing this it will seem like shaco does "zero damage", which is true, you are doing zero damage because you missed the sweet spot entirely. the other reworked assassins have this "sweet spot", namely LB, fizz, and talon aswell as kha. for fizz its waiting untill his target has bled for 2 seconds then going in, for talon its hitting someone 3 times with abilities then letting them bleed out, for LB its waiting 1.5 seconds to trigger her passive, and for shaco its the backstab.
-
Do not waste your E on high HP targets. really this seems like a no brainer, but people are still doing it out of habit. its an Execute now, so use it like any other execute unless you are worried the target will get away.
Thats it. that's all you need to not do as shaco.
How to play the new shaco:
-
read his passive. Im serious, read it, read it again, then read it some more untill you understand it.
-
read his Q as many times as you read his passive.
-
read his passive again
-
MAX Q first. no exceptions. his Q scales very hard into the mid and late game. yes, it last 1.5 seconds, yes it effects his lvl 2 ganks, I know this. However that 4.5 seconds when its maxed is just too good. thats an entire second longer than his old Q. with move speed imagine how much further you can get in that 1 seconds time. That extra 1 second also helps with setting up boxes WHILE STILL STAYING STEALTHED. Big deal. To top it off, it has a shorter CD than before AND it shaves off an additional 2.5 seconds when you hit someone from behind. So if you hit someone from the back with Q his CD goes from 11 seconds to 8.5 seconds WITHOUT CDR. On top of all that his Q scales multiplicative with his passive. Backstabbing is key here.
-
Buy CDR and buy alot of it. If you followed the first 3 steps then you would know why, but ill say it anyway. His bacstabs CD scales off of CDR. instead of backstabbing once every 3 seconds he can backstab once every 1.6 seconds. thats a very big deal. Another big deal is the fact that his Qs CD gets reduced down to only 3.5 seconds if you can manage to Q someone from behind. that is a VERY short CD on his Q and allows him to escape much easier. im still not sure what is the best way to go for that max CDR, but just get the 45% anyway you can be it through runes/masteries, items, or both. its so important.
-
Buy IE as a core item. shaco doesnt need to buy crit anymore, but that 50% crit damage from IE boosts his passives damage. yes, this is another thing people miss and dont get. his passive scales with crit damage. Please swallow whatever pride you have and get IE on shaco, its a must buy. i know shaclone wont do it.
And thats really it. all you guys need to do is understand how his new backstab mechanic works and you will find out that the new shaco is not that bad. does he need a few number tweaks here and there? maybe, but he is FAR off from being "useless".
one other thing i want to mention. the changes to his clone are AMAZING. so much easier to get kills with his clone now. The most important change to his clone tho is the fact that it can now attack people while you are dead. i cant see how any shaco main can ignore how good that feels where your clone is actually attacking targets and getting revenge kills while you are dead. AND IT CAN ALSO KILL WARDS NOW TOO.
honestly guys, new shaco is good.
