What’s the point of minimizing mistakes if that wont get you fed?

I hear a lot of high elo players saying “minimizing your mistakes and playing basic is the most effective strategy to climb” and I never understood that. I’ve done it before and I never end up as fed or as strong as an opposing enemy who played aggressive in lane and got 8/0. I just end up with the least deaths on my team, good cs and not enough kills to take on whoever my team fed.

i think because at the highest ranks, Everyone is simply so good that the strats that got people 8/0 in the lower elos simply don't work on them. So for them, Mastering the basics to such a degree that you can even autopilot them will allow you to do so much more consistently as you climb.

The basics will never change as you climb. It's the basics. they're absolutely fundamental. The ability to get fed using the aggressiveness that gets people 8/0 will get harder and harder as you climb, And eventually you'll be fighting people that put you 0/8 instead. But if you got to that same elo with the people that put you 0/8 before, but this time using the basics, guess what? instead of 0/8 you'll be 0/0 with same CS score as them. Because you mastered the basics of the world.

Now that the basics are mastered. Guess what? (: use them as a ladder to aggressiveness and know that no matter the outcome. your ladder will never shatter and it will never fail you.

oo also, once you're consistently able to not make mistakes. Whenever you do outplay yourself into a lead you'll have the fundamentals down to make sure you don't throw the lead away. which is always a good thing.

You don't have to be fed to win a game unless you're playing a selfish dps champion (has no utility). Minimizing mistakes is one of the most effective ways to improve in general, not just in video games.

Minimizing your mistakes doesn't get you fed, it just ensures your opponent doesn't get fed.

Capitalizing on your opponent's mistakes gets you fed.

There are some games where nobody at all gets fed, and the team that makes less mistakes tend to win (objectives, teamfights, etc etc)
