Thoughts On Master Yi?

Preface: Please don't consider this a complaint thread, downvote and move on. I actually want opinions.

Tried Master Yi a few games, and I usually understand when people complain about a champion being overpowered. Frankly, I've always thought Yi was underpowered. And I still do. I get that Cowsep does well with him but eh,..I feel there are better junglers, even for Devourer.

Maybe I'm wrong, I'd love to hear the arguments but he really doesn't strike me as a very desirable jungler to use.

He's OP in bronze because no one knows how to deal with him or thinks to pick CC.

He's OP in bronze because no one knows how to deal with him or thinks to pick CC.

On one hand, Yi isn't really that great at solo hard carrying since he needs his team to bait out their CC, and if he's the only one doing well, he can't really wait to go in. But if he doesn't wait, he gets CC+focus on him.

On the other hand, this doesn't really matter, since picks don't matter that much in Bronze. The skill discrepancy would be so vast that if you were good enough to carry with Yi, odds are, you could've utilized anyone for a similar result.

So, yeah, he's good in Bronze, but so is virtually every champion.

Yeah the more I use Yi, the more I realize the trade-offs being made regarding what I want in my junglers.

PROS: Good scaling, excellent damage output, high outplay potential, can light-carry games. Superb split pushing and objective taking.

CONS: Cannot duel 1v1 early game. Cannot skirmish (Smaller teamfights) early game. Poor teamfighting (5v5) early/mid game. Because of this, it's not that difficult to bully Yi early. His clear speeds aren't that great anymore. The way Devourer functions actually means about half of his mid game is likewise fairly weak.

To me, a few things stand out here. One is that he takes a LONG time to ramp up. Two is that before he ramps up, he has INCREDIBLY low pressure on the map. Three is that because of his low pressure, his objective control against good junglers will be pitiful.

Considering the Jungle's MAIN JOB is pressure, to me, this means Master Yi as a jungler is pretty poor. He's one of those champions that I feel can work, can be mastered and used to great effectiveness, but it's extremely hard to justify him over other champions other than by saying "I just like him."
