Our dose of Ezreal came early this year

dunder kill··103 votes·3,842 views

Seems Ezreal already fulfilled his quota of finding something annoying to abuse to become OP this season.

Does that mean we're getting a double dose of Ezreal this season? There is no way he can go an entire year without finding something else to break.

Dafuq are you talking about? Ezreal has always abused on hit items. People are so busy whining about kleptomancy that they're completely ignoring glacial augment with BORK.

He's already double dosing muramana smh

On the bright side, Muramana isn't completely worthless now.

That awkward moment when an item needs serious bug to be viable

Blåbæret6 votes

Don't worry: He'll find a way to abuse item 3056 as well.

General Esdeath 9 votes

A champ who abuses any item with an item that nobody can find useful.

I can see it happening.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Ohm Wrecker is an incredibly useful item! . . . Just not when anybody can reasonably get it. (>_>)

This board is such a circlejerk. You probably didn't even give a shit about ezreal till klepto. People will probably be like "What the fuck did I tell you guys, he's broken every season" if fucking udyr comes back into meta.

Flawless Fetus1 votes

Lol. It's going to happen. New steraks alongside his ad buff. I'm waiting for him to be pick/ban. Lol.

TheSandQrator1 votes

... It's a good thing that Sterak's is melee-only then, isn't it?

LXII4 votes

Also a good thing that person was talking about Udyr, a melee champion...

What do people find annoying about Ezreal? Never understood this.

What do people find annoying about Ezreal? Never understood this.

He always tends to break items as his q procs on hit effects so basically whenever a certain item gets buffed and tends to be really good ezreal can abuse that because of his q and demolish games and then riot is forced to nerf the item purely because of ezreal, if they were to remove his on hit effect on q he'd be a really bad champion as its his main source of dmg

I guess this begs for an Ezreal Gameplay Update then.

Extremely unlikely to happen. Ezreal is consistently among the most popular champions in the game, his playrate only dropping below 10% when he was BY FAR the worst ADC out there, reworking him would be as much risk for Riot as reworking Le Song or Riven.

On the other hand, his ban rate tends to be super-low unless he is completely broken like right now or in early season 7, clearly indicating that majority of the playerbase doesn't mind playing against him unless he is by far too strong (compare to champs like Zed who's banrate didn't drop below 20% even when he was supposedly garbage).

While Ez often "breaks" something, causing a lot of whining on boards, long-term statistics clearly show that he is among best designs in the game - fun for the player, but fair and non-toxic for the enemies. Riot won't give up on that.

Dokueki Kenshin1 votes

Yeah, even I as an Ez main will admit that he’s in definite need of a rework. I personally would like to see his W get reworked, though I did kinda have an idea to “balance” his Q...

Instead of proccing on-hit effects outright, what if they made on-hit and crit proc on his Q, but only at 50% effectiveness?

Flashes1 votes

The problem is the coding.

How do you 50% proc a glacial gauntlet?

Flawless Fetus1 votes

Half the size. Or do what they should have done ages ago and make it melee only. Lol.

Spârky1 votes

I don't think that he needs a rework but riot has said that they would be willing to look into reworking his w into something more useful. I think that Ez "breaking an item" every year is somewhat of an overstatement. He normally abuses one item with his q because it is a unique ability for about a patch but then riot normally responds by fixing it (as they did in the case of muramana) but in this kleptomancy case i really dont see a problem with it on him. Is it strong? yes. But honestly I don't feel like it gives him a free win ever. It just works really well on him. I think they might tone it down a bit and maybe add a charge system to kleptomancy similarly to how spellthiefs is but other than that i don't foresee much changing. (sorry for being late to this just saw this thread today)

I actually just played a game with Klepto Ez, and I’m now even more convinced that it’s Klepto for two big reasons: Utility and Gold Efficiency.

Okay, so Ez is a decent/good early game champ that shines in the mid game. Klepto pretty much injects Ezreal’s early game with steroids. You’re not just getting gold. You get so much more:

-Even more gold (RNG gold sacks, which can be sold for 65g each). -Health and Mana pots (you know, those blue pots that got removed because they were broken). -Free wards and control wards (which don’t count against your ward total, meaning it’s even harder to gank the lane). -ELIXIRS (both old and new. I don’t even understand how this was considered a good idea in ANY CONTEXT. This literally means you are guaranteed to get free stats in lane).

This not only allows Ezreal to viably start without offensive items (I always start with mana crystal anyways, but this makes that start much easier), but it shoots the gold efficiency of ANY character with this mastery through the roof because you get free stats that your opponent can’t really deny unless they perfectly zone you out.

I totally agree now that Klepto needs to either have a significantly reduced drop rate, or they need to take elixirs and other items that aren’t currently available to buy out of the drop roulette.

Spârky1 votes

yea i see your point. Ive played it a few times i still am in the minority. I never feel like i am dominating the opposing laner ever. I really think its just a cool interaction that people are completely blowing out of proportion. Why do i think he has a high winrate. Because of those rng gold sacks that give way to much gold. every time i use one i normally get toward the upper end of the amount of gold given. That lets ezreal get his items much faster like normally when i first back with ezreal i get tear and maybe boots and a pot. But now I tend to (if i get a kill bot lane which normally happens) i get tear and sheen. After first back is supposed to be ezreals weakest point in laning and early game since he has to buy tear but since i can get sheen as well it bridges that time period where he is weakest allowing him to get to his power spike safer than before and stronger.

My solution: Either get rid of gold sacks or make it so that they just give you ~65 gold when you use them (their selling price) I think that would drastically solve this problem since you already get gold for hitting champions as well.

I too wish to rework Le Song

I'm gonna keep saying it in every Ezreal thread until the idea gets through to people: Riot needs to make his Q no longer able to apply on-hit effects. Then he'd stop breaking things. Ever time he's broken something (which is often enough that it's a meme at this point) has been because his Q can safely apply on-hits from and unreasonable distance.

Thats not going to happen because hes an adc and adc dont get nerfed, items and everything else that revolves around adc gets nerfed while adc gets buffed to compensate the nerfs to their slaves.

TwitchInMyPants4 votes

Implying there hasn't been entire years where he's been in the garbage bin lol

Due to his Q he randomly gets broken with on-hits and then needs to be tuned, but we literally had an entire year where he couldn't hurt anything enough to be viable. 57% winrate is pretty extreme but we've had champs go as high as 60% and Ez is not the only champion up that high right now. Even if after the nerfs he's above average as long as he isn't breaking past 53% he should be fine, we'll likely find some counterpicks as the season goes on and the game is adjusted.

League gets changed every 2-3 weeks and the biggest balance patch in the history of the game has just been out for 10 days.

"Ezreal breaks item every year" - broke last item in season 4 and before that in season 2. Legit logic. Next post - better nerf Irelia...

Lùmen2 votes

Let's face it, he spent his fair share of time in the garbage tier.

Nanuk Pihoqahiak2 votes

Ezreal has almost never been garbage. He breaks items and then goes back to sitting on an average winrate. Then when the time is right, he crawls back into the game to break something. This isn't a new development.

Lùmen2 votes

Maybe he wasn't underperforming, but he was almost as invisible as Jhin was back in the Ardent meta, in my personal experience

General Theritt1 votes

Back then he wasn't an ADC... He was a jungler. Ardent didnt need to be strong on him, he could just kite the jungle and technically gank halfway across the map with his ult, while going botlane and pressuring range while having an incredibly safe escape, and strong AD scalings. He was practically the most safe clear jungler because he could kite the jungle with ease, and where graves does suffer damage, ezreal almost nullifies it once he has a few items.

Lùmen1 votes

I saw how terrifying his ganks and early invade were a few times here and there but it didn't really bother me because he was almost banned every game, unless he had a low pick rate at that time which I doubt

WolfChases1 votes

When exactly? I am playing this game since season 3 ad Ez was newer considered trash tier. He was either God tier or almost tier 1. He was always a perfectly viable safe pick that works well in pretty much every team comp duo to the natyre and safety of his kit. Long range poke, enough burst, decent sustained dmg, inbuilt flash, global ultimate, insanely good kiting potential, can play 3 roles (mid, adc, jungle). Tell me exactly when was he considered trash tier?

Trash tier are high risk low reward and high risk bad reward champions, even some high risk high reward champions depending on meta. For example, current Kindred is trash tier HIGH RISK - MEDIUM REWARD champion with terribly designed passive that puts her in risk to counterjungle while being way too weak for counterjungling and yet, her overall damage depends on that passive way too much. Kindred is strong as hell if she gets 10+ stacks but that simply happens in 1 out of 10 games if she's lucky. Difference between 10+ stacks Kindred and 5 stacks Kindred is like Nasus with 100 and 700 stacks on his Q. Got the point? Other example would be Kartus, hes even worse than Kindred as he is currently HIGH RISK - ALMOST NO REWARD.

Lùmen1 votes

Inbuilt flash with a bigger range and a targeted high base damage bolt, may I add.

WolfChases2 votes

Aaaand really annoying appearance on top all of that.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Wait, isn't his yearly quota around 4-5? We have. . .

  • the muammana bug (debatable if this counts)
  • Kleptomancy

What else has he broken so far?

Jet Sett2 votes

Apparently Glacial Augment plus Botrk.

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

Wait. What? How?

%health damage (BotRK) and on-hit slow (Rune) don't interact with each other. BotRK's active doesn't have any unique interactions with Ezreal's kit; so anything he breaks there would be equally breakable by any other champion.

Jet Sett3 votes

Well I'm sure it's the ranged, on-hit, tank melting Q that allows him to kite or gapclose very easily along with the Botrk active. It's not an abuse case, but the combination is possibly too strong.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

But active synergy would exist on any champion. Why is Ezreal unique?

Doozku1 votes

He hits the glacial slows from long range duh.

It Hertz When IP4 votes

Most champions have to land an ability, then an autoattack. Ezreal's low-CD Q does that all in one.

Durzaka3 votes

I mean, that already existed with Blue Ezreal and IBG though.

Remlap12236 votes

Except that you can stack BORK and Triforce. It deals double the damage with twice the slow, on top of melting tanks.

WolfChases1 votes

Aaand a few things in the past that got nerfed because of him, Runeglaive...for example.
