Considering League without Free Summoner Spells

It occurs to me, having played both DOTA 2 and League, that League summoner spells are definitely a safety net, especially at my rank (Gold). Flash - which is a must-take - and to a lesser extent Heal, are mistake erasers. Out of position at level 1? You can flash to safety. Frankly, every time Flash is up I play a bit bolder because I have that safety net.

I'm not saying we remove them from the game, but bake them into items. I'll use DOTA for comparison because it's easy to do, but they have an item with a flash in it (blink dagger). Costs a not-insignificant amount of gold to obtain. They have a boots upgrade with teleport functionality in it. For jungling, Riot can just make your jungling item have a Smite active that only one player on the team can have.

I dunno, just a thought that it might be nice to incorporate these into build paths rather than give the free abilities that greatly ease early game.

Except for the fact that you’re at a disadvantage when those spells are down while the enemies are up. Your mistake isn’t “erased” and you WILL (by good players) be punished for getting them blown for something stupid like level 1 fights or ganks you saw coming.

And in higher ranks people use flash for aggression. Flash makes getting the perfect picks/engages easier so people can’t just endlessly turtle the game because they can react to non flash-animation-cancel abilities.

Like this for example, if flash wasn’t in the game, then Swain and I couldn’t defend base 2V5, because I would have no way to reach and kill (with some help from swain cause that twitch actually built defenses) Twitch through 4 bodies he can hide behind (two of them being supports cause they were 5 man funneling in Flex)

If I used another ult charge instead, twitch could just move because he had more time to do so since i had to dash and do the charm animation, that or the other 4 players on the team would move to block me with the extra time given. Then we lose since without flash, I couldn’t surprise and punish twitch the second he Is within my range.

I used to play a game that had flash on a 5 sec cooldown on most characters, that was hella fun lol. Except it was pure PvP with the only real objective being a kill limit rather then killing the Nexus.
