I just realized that thunderlords is much better for ad
Because it deals magic damage. If you are building armor vs a ad champion with thunderlords they still hit you with some magic damage while ap champions and countered twice by magic resist.

How many AD champions run Mpen runes, though?
Such bronze
This assumes that the enemy is only building against one person on a team, and they're building no MR for the mage or jungler or top laner who would do magic damage, and it completely forgets that the damage being magical means it can't benefit from armor penetration, which is a very big weakness.
On top of that, the biggest thing determining whether it would be better for AD or AP is the AP and AD scaling, which isn't weighted towards AD champions.
