Why the new HUD doesn't work
-
Color scheme and font size - this new HUD is darker and the smaller font size makes it really hard to read. In order to read any content I have to completely focus in on the text which means I can't see anything else on-screen.
-
Location - Yes it is different and it will take some getting used to. However having the team stats as a bar at the top of the screen really worked before. Having as a much smaller size font above the mini-map means that again I have to really focus (read squint) to see what is going on. I can't just take it in at a glance.
-
Brightness of item section - the items are much harder to see now. I played an ARAM and had 3 mana biscuits in my inventory that I didn't know where there despite glancing over at them several times. The items really need to be brighter and stand out more so that the player can take in the relevant information at a glance rather than having to stare and figure it out.
-
Champion stats - this is very NOT readable. Sure I can appreciate the toggle of sliding it out, but it is friggen hard to read man! The icons are not as discernible at that size to their conveyed meaning, so again I am forced to stare and try to figure out what the heck I am looking at. Small font size also does not help me read the numbers properly.
-
Eye movement - I understand that by putting things in the far corners you open up more of the viewable area, however to get information from the HUD requires moving the eyes to the farthest corners of the screen (bottom left for team health information, bottom right for mini-map). This is very tiring on the eyes and creates a situation where I have to glance back and forth completely opposite parts of the screen in order to gain the information I am looking for. I would probably feel better if the champion info was on the right above the mini-map so there was less distance for my eyes to traverse.
TL;DR The new HUD has too small of a font to read, too dark on icons to make out a lot of shapes in the inventory, and tiring on the eyes to obtain all the information from the furthest corners of the screen.
To fix: Try different fonts and sizes, brighten the icons, and possibly increase the HUD size a little so that glancing at the relevant pieces of information will yield results. Also consider grouping situational information such as team score and team health together with the mini-map so the player only has to look in one place to obtain relevant information about the status of the game.
