Will Duskblade's passive be looked at in S8?

EinarUlfar··37 votes·2,159 views

I feel as though the passive causes it's gold efficiency to exceed it's cost, and the passive also offers invisible power (..also literally, lol) which I thought was something we were trying to work towards not having within LoL?

I'm also concerned because the powerspike it offers is freakin' massive. It appears that often even in cases you do have issues with target selection/accessibility even amongst the highly mobile, that Duskblade is always a superior rush compared to Youmuu's now. ):

I've played against Zed as Ahri so many times, and most of the time I manage to get kills on him early. Even when I killed him 3 times in lane, the second that guy gets Duskblade, I know I can't fight him anymore. Not even if I get Zhonya's (he can just wait for it to time out then kill me). This happens very often, almost everytime I face a Zed. It feels so bad, knowing I should be stronger... Yet it doesn't matter. He got his duskblade. The lane is over. If I do try to fight him it ends with me dead. Not a single time I've managed to 1v1 him at that point, despite me being several levels ahead, having 5 kills and 50 cs on him and having 1.5 items more. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. The powerspike it provides is too massive.

Any other champion with Duskblade just oneshots aswell. Imo it gives far too much power. Try playing against a Rengar who kills you in 0.35 seconds, or an ad Renekton with Duskblade (0.56 seconds with only a duskblade).

The problem -in my opinion- is that it gives a lot of extra damage without having to really do much for it. Duskblade is the difference between getting oneshot in half a second, and getting oneshot in 1.5 seconds -something I think has much more counterplay.

I had a Shaco that was behind in a PBE game earlier, but he got Duskblade and started hitting squishies for 1300-1800 and popping them in 0.00 seconds. Lol. It was terrifying.

But agreed, the powerspike isn't a smooth one; it's a burst that often takes away a massive advantage from the opposition. I'd also like to see how Talon's winrate changes in the event Duskblade's passive was removed/adjusted. It's pretty high right now, 54.5% or so, and almost every build has him rushing DB. I sympathize with you, as a Support/Mid main. ):

Assassins are supposed to kill people in 0.5 seconds, that's honestly the point of burst damage. And why should a mage be able to fight an assassin in the midgame anyway? Assassins are better at dueling, that's their role. You're complaining about a system working as intended.

pre- letality old armor pen doesnt feel like this at all, assasin were stronger than mages at early-mid game, but on a more consistent way , right now it feels like oh as an assasin cant ado a shit vs mages due my early game is super nerfed, wait on min 8 getduskblade now im hyper stronger and u literally have 0 chance vs me. If an assassin is able to farm up 2900 gold in 8 minutes that is the mage's problem. The mage is able to constantly poke and harass to deny CS or get kills.

Yes, Riot's experiment with arbitrary build up times has changed the assassin landscape entirely. However, once Runes Reforged hits and Riot sees that marksmen are still running rampant they will have to do something about burst and DPS.

The point of his post is 1.5 item advantage. If someone wipes the floor with you early game like that, you don't deserve to be ANY threat to them, much less to kill them 1v1, and one-shotting them is beyond absurd.

I know assassin players feel entitled to 'do their job', but champions of other classes need often need wait until 3-4 item builds before they catch up after terrible early game, and there is no reason why assassins should be of any exception here.

PokladnicaZla4 votes

Tbh only the community refers to the assassin archetype as killing someone in 0.5sec. RITO has been taking a different approach to the class.Making them sneaky, mobile class with high burst potential. It's much healthier that way,the only thing left is to look at ADCs and adjust them accordingly.

It depends on the elo of the zed. A good zed can literally follow Ahri's ult, and hit her twice mid ult before she ults a second time, and his proc on ult will kill her before her third hop. Ahri's ult is not an untargettable or a blink; It's character movement, and entirely vulnerable.

I've had a rank 69 Zed 1v5 my team in Gold once, and every kill occurred in less than 1-2 seconds, because he was able to proc every hit in the blink of an eye and get out of any harm by going back to his shadow. It didn't matter if you were predicting his shadow jump, or whether he was staying. While you tried to figure it out, he 1 shot you.

Its dependant on the skill if the Ahri player actually. Literally everything in this matchup is on ahri. She can dash after he ults, she has the range advantage, she has the ability to charm straight out of zeds ult. And you are talking about gold, even I can 1v5 in gold, players in that elo dont understand much about the game.

I think your assumption is frivolous and wrong. Gold does occasionally get misplaced players, but that doesn't mean the Majority don't understand the game, or that they don't have very good luck.

From what I've seen: Gold consists of four groups of people:

-Ex Plat/Diamonds who placed poorly in their placements and are stuck suffering the curse of "new accounts with placements" lopsiding many of their games. -People who have worked hard and went up from Bronze to Gold by fighting elo hell, know quite a bit about the game and can play at a fast predictive pace. -People creating new accounts after being perma banned whose skill levels are much higher than gold. -People who place gold, try to stay there, but inevitably Bronze/silver players who eventually get filtered down to where they should be.

The first 2 are just as common as the last one at any given time, but they are more populous, and are replaced as they filter out. The third spoils a disproportionate set of games, because it's not really fair when a Challenge pro player jumps into a game with people who are plagued by low latency, the randomness of placements, and at least a medium degree of skepticism of other players on your team.

(for example, if I op.gg and find a smurf, I tell my teams, and I generally advise them what to do and not to do to help corner that smurf... like who is the most likely feeder on the other team, how to build to prevent the smurf from snowballing, to farm, to be protective of infernal drakes around their timers..... teams rarely listen to any of it, but sometimes do).

I'm not going to claim to be perfect at all. I'm a good pather, and a good strategist towards knowing how to play certain champ compilations. But I have a horrible attitude.... the one where when I expect a laner to do their job on a gank, and they don't, which results in one of my 2-4 deaths a game.... I get touchy and argumentative. I'm also not too fond when a direct counter feeds a game disrupter like Nasus, Riven, Zed, or Kha. Once fed, those champs have very little counterplay, except zerging them, which leaves his/her other teammates the opportunity to snowball too or take objectives. If I wasn't verbal, I'm easily about Plat I - Diamond IV. I'm usually that one person who can take a 15/0 Riven and dumpster her under a turret. But, by then my team's already given up.

This account's only about 1 1/2 months old. When the new Evelynn came out, I had pretty good success in norms with her to where I considered my play to be up to putting her into ranked, and I was playing the meta. I quickly found out that wasn't true. While I could pull a 9-10 kill game with 2-3 deaths at most, I just wasn't contributing to my team enough to actually carry the games. They didn't know how to interact with her, and she couldn't compensate their lack of lane pushes, or CS enough to compensate her team/other teams cannibalizing her jungle in between ganks. I've worked out some build modifications that seem to work about 90% of the time vs any champ composition, so I've been able to switch back to Eve and use her to climb a bit to recover what I lost playing her.

I won't get back up to the Plat IV MMR I had by week 3 of the account, but I will probably be able to get back up to about a Gold II MMR if I get enough time to play. But atm.... I'm lowly Silver II.... because ranked just wasn't ready for Eve, when Eve was ready for ranked. Ofc, it's partially due to verbal harassment too.

Handin Out Naps1 votes

You probably wont like what im about to say, but if you continue to climb as you play this game you will probably find out anyway. Gold players are terrible, plat players are terrible, low diamond players are terrible, people begin to actually get good at high diamond but still are terrible compared to actual good players. Of course good is a relative term. From your prespective you probably think low diamond players are amazing at this game, but from an actual high elo players perspective they are garbage.

And again you probably wont like what im about to say, but you aren't at a plat-diamond level, if you were you would be there and not have a negative winrate in silver. You talk about what you are good at, but dont realize the millions of mistakes you are probably making. And being verbal will only hold you back so far, I know because I do the same thing and can still get to plat in 50 games. Sorry if this came out a bit harsh, really want to avoid that, but its hard to make something like that sound nice.

You're right in that I disagree with you, but wrong with the premise that I'm angry about it. I know what the "flash appearance" of this account looks like.

But, if you dug a little deeper, for all intents and purposes, I have only played 2 champions on this account: Sona, and Evelynn. While Evelynn is a favorite, I used to play her very differently, and pull 20+ kill games, with 2-3 turrets/game.

Sona I've only been playing because at higher elos, she carries more than any other support in my opinion. And no. I've never been a Censer rusher Sona who carries herself on the attack speed buff. I generally build a much more wholeistic build that plays the long game, feeds less, and controls the ability of my opponents to run/outdamage/assassinate. So, I generally know how to play her.

In truth, I have 14 primary champions, most of which I haven't brought out on this account, because they simply don't carry a 1 month rush. I'm usually 63% or greater on all of them (Even the old Evelynn).

For about the first 100 games of this account, I was playing with Plat/Ex Diamond/Diamond, because my MMR was that high. It only dropped after I started playing the new Eve. I had a lot of very good Jarvan IV's and Xin's tag team my games, which reduced my ability to carry drastically, and was constantly getting level 1-6 invaded by people with 6-7 KDAs. My Teams did nothing to cooperate with me, which effectively dropped my performance on a new champ. I'm aware part of winning is choosing a composition that carries, but a lot of these were first pick jungles, so I was playing at a disadvantage to begin with.

By the time I got down to Silver, and away from Plat/Ex Diamonds, I generally realized that the meta builds PBE carries were toting were not always viable so I began playing with builds, and had only a 13% Eve win rate (had a 73% Sona rate).

I'm up to about a 40% Eve win rate, and even the losses are carries with normally the most objectives, most kill contribution, and many times the most damage on team... even with the new Eve. So, I don't really consider them losses. Within a Week my MMR will be back to around Gold II and placement about Gold IV or better. I'm pretty certain of that, considering forces of nature and schedule (I do have a son, family, job).

So, while you're going to tell me all about where I belong off a 1 1/2 month snapshot, and you're free to do so, I know I've been rank #54,713, and been playing since Season 6, and religiously played with Diamond III - Plat V most of it :) And that's back when I had the occasional disconnect, lag, desync that probably impacted 1 in 20 of my games.

I mean..... I could pick up Kha Zix or Jarvan and get a 85% win rate in Silver/Gold lol. I just don't like those champs. I generally don't personally like ANY hyper carries, unless you consider Ahri a hyper carry. Instead, I pull 60-70% Supports, 60% specialist junglers.

90% of it depends on the ahri player and also easier said than done, Zed isn't easy to play at ALL in high ELO.

I am the only one who miss the first version of Duskblade? The one that didn't had a passive that allowed you to reveal wards, the damage passive wasn't tied to invisibility and it allowed you to deal damage based on the enemy's missing health. It would ensure that enemies would be finished off by your combo, with the counterplay being healing/shielding or using Zhonya before the passive killed you.

Its pretty simple... Before and after the rework assassins had trouble to assassines during late game. But after Assassins reworks and after bot buff (adc & supp) assassinate during mid was too hard. Assassins weren't reliable enough to be picked (their early weren't strong enough, same mid, and late useless.

Duskblade will stay the way it is as long as ADC's + Supports stay the way they are, It's near impossible for an assassin to actually assassinate ADC especially in yolo Q (Solo Q)

An assassin is not supposed to kill ADC that is protected by the support, unless ADC is already weakened, assassins has significant item advantage, or someone to aid him.

IDK where assassin players got their idea that they deserve to single handedly make two enemy players useless without problems, but they don't.

IDK where assassin players got their idea that they deserve to single handedly make two enemy players useless without problems, but they don't.

The idea originated from Riot Games, They said so and did work upon the idea, During the Assassin rework, They nerfed armor penetration and replaced it with lethality, Updated every assassin's kit in two ways: Either nerfed damage or delayed burst, They also said that they believe that if an Assassin is waiting for an ADC to walk by an un warded bush then the Assassin waiting in the unwarded bush definitely deserves to be rewarded, But after a while, People complained so much because marksmen who could abuse lethality were equally good as assassins, Both sides were nerfed & then Riot Games decided to buff up support itemization because the ADC players started complaining about how the marksmen who abused lethality are no longer ''useful'' & besides, They took the side of buffing support players because the existence of Auto-Fill, They wanted the role to feel more impactful and attractive, And then ADC + Support were immortal hence why Duskblade got updated so Assassin's at least have a chance, I like how Riot Games tries to please everyone but not everyone are grateful.

Fear the Kayn3 votes

Honestly I think it's pretty balanced right now. Lethality in general is in a pretty good spot right now. It gives a big power spike because until you get a duskblade as an assassin, you're fairly weak. Duskblade just gives some extra damage to 'the point of no return' (as in, if you haven't been poking and outfarming that assassin you're going against mid, don't even bother returning to lane). It's all ogre at that point if you're a squishy mid.

EinarUlfar7 votes

I have to respectfully disagree. AD Assassins scale very hard with AD; small amounts give noticeable rise in damage, so long as you're consistently getting some AD. Duskblade caters to this need by being built from 4 Longswords, so you can keep a solid output of damage in an even/winning matchup as it's built; then offers a MASSIVE spike due to the passive.

Riot stated specifically they wanted to remove invisible power from items+skills, and Duskblade offering a high burst of damage for merely being unseen for 1 second is just that.

I'd be fine if they removed the extra damage, but obviously there would be a trade off. Would it be worth removing the extra damage for more lethality on the assassin items? Assassins really aren't in a very good spot right now overall, and duskblade made the meta a little more bearable for them.

Dani El Pezglobo1 votes

i think passive should be deleted , but 3 items should get btw 5 and 10 more letality.

Somebody Love Me3 votes

I don't think there needs to be a tradeoff. Duskblade has so much power in it already.

It gives Lethality (flat armor pen), a decent amount of AD, a bonus damage passive, AND a ward disable/clearing passive, for only 2900 gold.

The damage passive is also fairly forgiving. One second of being unseen gives you bonus damage on auto attack, and you have five whole seconds to use it.

They'd have to buff almost every assassin then. You see, Duskblade is a bandaid fix for assassins being so bad atm. I'm fine with them removing duskblade, but in return I'd like to see almost every assassin get more AD scaling OR even abilities that scale partially off of lethality. That would be interesting.

Somebody Love Me2 votes

They can keep duskblade, but something about it has to go. I'd prefer if the sweeper was removed.

Besides, AP assassins don't get any of that stuff unless they have AD scalings, so that they can abuse Duskblade themselves, or the second place more expensive version without the sweeper item 3146

You have to understand that it is either this or ad assassins are garbage, honestly assassin in generally too cuz ap assassins are bad too. You know that zed was literally one of the top low winrate assassins along with lb before buffs and db. Talon wasn't nearly as good as he was till the changes, ad assassins were not even competitive till db. You have to understand assassins are burst mages just mostly single target, if they dont ave burst they are useless, what other use do assasins have other then burst high priority targets, nothing, at least burst mages can offer cc, but assassins can't.

I understand Assassins and the purpose of Duskblade. However, every successful AD Assassin/Lethality abuser shouldn't be riding on the immense powerspike behind this one item to properly execute their kit and succeed.

We need to see the passive gutted/removed/changed, and the power put back into the Champions to properly function without relying on an overpowered passive. Riot approached Assassins with the desire to remove insta-burst (and invisible power), yet implemented Duskblade's new passive as hefty extra burst (..and invisible power); the design is contradicting their alleged approach.

Shablagoo3 votes

I agree, assassins need their power shifted back to their kits in a better way. For example no delays but conditional, the reason Kha is the most successful assassin is because his dmg is conditional not delayed. It is the same with burst mages their dmg is conditional in the sense that they need to land skillshots. This would mean no need to have op items like db which literally changes the powerspike of every ad champion, and assassin still have counterplay and power in their kits.

At the very least, don't make it so when the midlane assassin has just erased our midlaner a few times, he can just stroll botlane past 2 wards and get a double to tie a pretty little bow around it. Over and over. Sure the winrates are balanced, but it feels AWFUL to play against. Suddenly you can't make any plays in any other lane because it's the same as having an unwarded map and you lose the game from pure innertia. I accept that assassins may be designed to beat mages- I just wish that duskblade didn't auto-beat my macro.

Once I get duskblade, it's time to walk out of a wall and one shot the ADC any time I can for the next 15 minutes until they build GA

It's honestly stupid and ridiculous; not even gunblade power spikes on AP assassins can compare to this insanity.

Of course, the best part is once that marksman finishes GA I'm immediately completely useless no matter how fed I am at that point.
