8.11 should teach us that 4 protect 1 is the problem.

Yes, crit ADC was an issue but it was a symptom of a problem, not the cause.

The problem is the archaic concept of the lategame scaling hypercarry - before a Tristina, Twitch, Xayah, etc can scale off 3 crit items and turn into an absolute beast. They are designed to do so. What 8.11 does is delay their power But if the games become longer or crit becomes cheaper they will become problems again!

However, merely delaying the power of one champion who was a meta carry, does not mean another cannot take its place. Yasuo and Master Yi have been hypercarry monsters for ages, but they have been slept on; their power is not respected or checked by the community at large because they traditionally have only success at low elo.

There's one problem with this line of thinking, that a champion carries just because they are in low elo - This is only partially true. They are solo-carrying at low elo because teams don't work together. They aren't at high because teams don't enable them to carry. All they would need to do is flip that situation around; have the 4 players on their team respect that champions power and enable them. As we see with Master Yi and others today. Champions such as Jax, Kayle, Tryndamere and others are waiting in the wings after nerfs to Master Yi and Yasuo, all they need is to be respected and enabled.

I've seen in Dota countless times this cycle occur: hero is considered "only a pub stomper". The pros figure out a way to "enable" this hero to carry. Then they need to be nerfed. Then another low tier hero was buffed in the background and they become "just a pub stomper"-- until the pros pick them and the cycle continues forever like Icefrog has a learning disability.

League can do better by actually seeing it can fall into the same 4 protect 1 never ending hell by actually curtailing hypercarry champions. That the idea a champion is "unstoppable late game" is a bad design, is the most frustrating design possible! Something League had traditionally been popular for seemingly steering away from, the idea that anybody and any role in the game can carry and it's losing that.

It's not even the 1+4 comp that is the issue. It's the issue that you are essentially dumping 2 roles worth of resources into one person while the support functions fine being massively behind due to sheer utility. In the Yi plus Taric strat Yi isn't a jungler anymore, he's a Jungler+Mid. Likewise in the Karth+Nunu strat Karth isn't really a midlaner, he's a Mid+Jungler. It essentially gives the team an insanely fed carry that you have no good way of slowing down, especially in soloQ

I agree with this. Personally, while I think it's okay for certain champions to be strong at different stages of the game, I think that's very different from that champion being less interactive at those points, which is the way hypercarrying generally turns out in League. Ideally, any sort of extreme lane bully, hypercarry, mid game god, etc. should still have key points of counterplay that anyone can access even when they're at their strongest. However, this doesn't really happen in practice, because most hypercarries tend to have really reliable damage, and usually enough range or innate survivability to not have to worry too hard about dying past a certain point. As mentioned above, "Protect the X" is also pretty easy to achieve now, when damage is so high that a single champion can cover most of a team's damage, and CC is high enough that most other champions can peel as hard as they need. Any champion should be able to carry, and I do think there is value around building an entire team to enable an ally, but the issue with League right now is one of reliability: hypercarries can deal too much damage too reliably, and teams as a whole can protect a single ally too reliably at most elos. Toning down this reliability via targeted changes to damage and CC could go a long way towards making matches feel more interactive.
