They are reworking Gangplank, there is a major concern about Gangplank...

Will he still be able to eat oranges and be K?

At the start of the GP rework we sat down and did some hard thinking about what defined Gangplank. Our eventual conclusions were:

  • Primary identity - Eats oranges and is k.
  • Secondary identity - Pirate, plus some other stuff.

Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Post rework GP's still going to be eating citrus fruit and then feeling fine though.

Any idea if you're favoring keeping his global ultimate? (Or at least "a global ultimate")

RiotMeddler27 votes

Odds are high his new ult will be pretty similar to his current one (so tweaked somewhat, but not replaced).

Makra10 votes

That sounds like Ritospeak for "we're making it non-global".

No, still global. Looking at stuff like damage tick rate, duration, slow % etc.

What will happen to the E. Will he still be able to gain bonus AS, MS, and AD?

Will his Q now be a skill shot?

Solideus2 votes

Q still not a skillshot but E is entirely new. That's what they've said before, anyway.

doviende2 votes

but if it were a skillshot it could get more power budget :)

Firing every .25 seconds and having more than a pathetic 25% slow would do wonders

Lowering the base but making it AD scaling Physical with 40/60/80% slow seems like the appropriate way to make it meaningful

DrDeadWeight6 votes

But that feels like way to much for a global. The tradeoff for it being global is that it's not as strong as a regular AoE ultimate. An 80% slow is massive for a global ult.

Just lower the damage then

It's really crappy in every way right now and only good for getting assists for free

Earl Eulrich7 votes

it´s not?

reliable global waveclear is a massive tool for wavecontroll that alone would be sufficient. But it also really provides a lot of magical dmg in teamfights and makes it a little easier to peel for your backline...and the cd isn´t even that high.

Anidan3 votes

80% slow, though... you know how low you'd have to make the damage for something like that to get past? Hell, even the 60% is really, really pushing it since you don't have to aim like you would for an Ashe ult. You could be top lane and help so much with a bot lane gank without even leaving that it'd be absurd. The rest of his kit would suffer horribly for that ult.

As much as I like the sounds of a buff for his ult, that would be flying way above "overdoing it" in a commercial jet while the phrase plods along in a car.

Will critplank still be a thing or is it being removed? Also any word on him getting a new passive. his current one is just bad imo

Troy2426214 votes

I think a huge part of GP's identity is making mad booty like the gold grubbing pirate that he is, as well as being a generalist.

His Q is pretty iconic, as a result of that. Massive crit shots and making money, mostly.

So, major Supplank fan here. I heard they are basically gutting E for support. Is he getting anything else back as compensation? And will he retain his generally high natural speed from E?

And one last thing. Can I get him to not get bruiser Champion Mastery titles? It's not outright embarassing like AD Ahri or something, but that's not how I play him, and my titles should be reflecting that. Is my Champion Mastery progress reflecting that? I heard rumors that you are only compared to people who play similarly to you, not just in champion, but I have doubts. Afterall, there aren't a whole lot of Supplanks out there to compare me to...

RiotMeddler14 votes

We're giving him a new E, rather than gutting the power from the current one. I suspect the replacement won't be as useful for supportplank, apologies if that ends up removing a playstyle that it sounds like you really enjoy. Bit early to comment on details like how much attack speed/movement speed GP will have post rework. We've got the big picture generally figured out, but haven't gone through the balancing process yet, so specific numbers are subject to change.

Not sure on the champion mastery questions sorry, different team to the ones I work with, so I'm not familiar with the details of how it functions or possible future plans.

I have two questions:

  1. Can we expect GP's rework to hit PBE after patch 5.11 or is it too early?
  2. GP's passive movement speed is a very important part of his kit right now since it allows to skip the purchase of boots (or at least to sell them lightheartedly later on in the game). So, even though E looks like an underwhelming skill, it kinda grants a whole sixth item of stats when GP is full build. Has this been considered while balancing the new GP?

A last curiosity of mine is: while reworking him, do you aim at making him a viable pick (perhaps even in competitive play) or your primary concern is to keep his piratesque identity while giving his kit a more modern façade?

Gangplank

Earl Eulrich4 votes

oh god, please don´t do that. Currently he´s one of the few (AD)Champs that can be played as a Carry or a Support and is equaly strong in both roles...don´t Karma him. Leave him be a diverse Champ.

Please ensure SupportPlank retains equal viability to current.

Also, I really love his MS steroid, we need that functionality to remain intact somehow in his kit.

Especially considering your company appears hell-bent on fcking up the game with mobility creep overload over & over & over & over again.

Like seriously, side-topic but, wtf is up with that? Are you guys learning your lesson on this or not?

Bad Luck Braum3 votes

Though I don't do it all the time, I occasionally also enjoy a Support GP Game or two.

ya, im sure youll do fine with gp....

and by fine, i mean fkin ruin like almost everything you've touched (not tryna be mean but its only what ive seen, dont be mad at facts, your work history is awful as far as happy upon completion)

Cassio's rework is fine, there is just an extremely (extremely) vocal minority who can't handle change.

The Karma rework, on the other hand, was a travesty.

I had to leave a comment somewhere, so here is just fine: Please don't take away parrrley's main characteristic: A RANGED MELEE ATTACK THAT PROCS EVERYTHING! i beg you :( he was the first champ i played back in 2011, i wanted changes but i learned to love him the way he is, please dont Olaf him :( i believe in you Meddler-Sensei Gangplank

it's not a full rework, i think its just in the style of ashe's, but they're changing his e instead of his q

TheBeardedFool4 votes

They said his Q will not be a skill shot and he will still have oranges and he's getting a new E. Also unlikely that his Ult will change much.

How can you NOT love his W? It's a free QSS on an absurdly short CD.

The oranges are good, but if I had to choose between keeping his oranges or his Q, I'd pick the Q

FiendComedian2 votes

Hey guys, I'm really excited (a bit nervously) for the GP rework. I had a few questions regarding him right now/in the future.

  1. His passive received poison particles a few patches ago. Does it count as poison for the purposes of Twin Fangs?
  2. I remember y'all mentioned that GP passive had the unfortunate distinction of not treating the dmg and CC portions separately. Has this been fixed/will be fixed such that tenacity doesn't reduce the passive dmg? Or is this not the case anyways?
  3. This one might be a long shot, buuuuut... anyway we can get Remove Scurvy to remove Bard's stasis? Make is a special interaction of sorts :P

Thanks, guys! Keep up the good work. Also, thank whomever brought Hexakill back. Get to run Crit Dmg rune page GP one last time before inc rework :DDD

Do what you want cause a pirate is free, you are a pirate!

YAR HAR FIDDLE DI DEE being a pirate is really OP

Critting all and ignoring CC, YOU ARE A PIRATE

Being a pirate is allright with me!

Just it an orange and now you're free!

You are a pirate!

BlueCannonMinion2 votes

Can you make his Q proc ludens

Terchio1 votes

Sounds unlikely to me. If Q can crit, assumedly all the physical damage would double, meaning no physical damage could proc it. If you wanted the passive magic damage to proc it, that means that other magic damage effects would proc, such as Rylai's and Liandry's. I don't think perma-Liandry's would be balanceable (especially with the slow still in tact), and Rylai is only acceptable because it would be DoT, so diminished slow.

Rito buff Azir1 votes

U can proc it, tested it, it wokred, any spell procs ludens!

Silents4291 votes

Can his Q stop critting? Or get some reduction to it.

Just encourages people to build pussyplank (critplank)

SandyRogue754 votes

ITs his identity. Don't mess with it.

Celeste Benal1 votes

My major question is will his identity be sufficiently different from MissFortune? Other than being male pirate vs female pirate? Perhaps GP could do more chunk damage while MF is more of the sustained dps champ?

Sieglorian1 votes

MF isn't a pirate though. She'e a pirate HUNTER. As in, she HUNTS PIRATES LIKE GP.
