Am i the only one that likes the "new" rune/mastery system?
I know this might catch some flak seeing how there were two posts reminiscing about the good old rune pages with 100+ up votes but i gotta say i can't remember the old rune system being so great as people make it out to be now.
I've been playing since S1 and i hardly remember the old runes and masteries which makes me realize that they weren't really that exciting to begin with.
First lets remember that you had Tier 1 to Tier 3 runes and they all costs IP points, meaning that new players had a clear disadvantage compared to someone who's been investing their IP or RP in runes, not that great in my opinion but what do i know.
Next let's talk about the DIVERSITY that the runes provided. People seem to forget that Red,Yellow and Blue were basically specialized runes
Red was things like AD Yellow was hp/armor Blue was MR/Mana Regen etc.
There were technically red armor runes or yellow damage runes but they would literally give 1/3 of the stats so the diminishing returns made it so that you more or less always had damage/armpen red, armor/hp yellow and mr blue, there was no point in going full armor for example since you'd be giving up like 10 AD and 10MR for extra 5 Armor or something, so i can't really remember the blissful diversity that some board members remember so clearly.
You had Quintessences which were essentially major runes that would add some diversity into the mix like adding some %MS or %crit chance instead of damage but that was mostly it.
Mastery pages had some similar issues i feel, i've been an ADC main since forever so i can't speak for other classes but your choices mostly came down to the last 3 keystones, everything before that was just +4% ARpen and +12% AS, nothing to write home about honestly.
The not so new mastery/rune system might not be perfect but i can't be the only one thinking that it actually provides more unique and interesting things than the old one, Lethal Tempo, Summon Aery, Arcane Comet, Hail of Blades, Glacial Augment, Unsealed Spellbook, Kleptomancy, Conqueror, biscuit delivery, magical footwear, gold lending, ghost poros, overheal, demolish, hextech flash, ultimate hunter etc. These are all things that didn't exist back then, as far as i remember every class had their main tree and dipped slightly in one of the other two and that was mostly just pure stats except for the last runes like Thunderlords which is the new Electrocute.
I mean i feel like i'm gonna get blasted to hell with downvotes just please explain to me first what exactly are you missing since i really can't see how the old rune/mastery system was so DIVERSE and fun (except for the 1% crit rune ofc)
