As a Shaco main, it really saddens me what they've done to him, and how none of it really gave him better counterplay.
His invisibility, while no longer hard-countered by a consumable item, didn't get its unique tells played up to give his prey a real chance. (His Q, Deceive, has the puff of smoke and a faint laugh upon disappearing, which would have given a clue to perceptive and wary players.)
His boxes are now countered by two cheap items, rather than being given any more innate counterplay. (They don't have a 'spring down' timer like Jhin's traps. They don't have any audible SFX to alert players to their presence.) And now he can place them while invisible!
Yes, you can counter him by warding and grouping up, but that applies generally to virtually all the assassins and junglers in League. Or by using the free item everyone has access to (that covers a huge area and has a ridiculous 10s duration.)
Shaco himself doesn't have any more counterplay than he previously had. He his, however, equally reliant on items and a gold / level advantage as he's always been (if not moreso). If Shaco appears strong, just know that it's the items and the Shaco player. Shaco himself is, unfortunately, in a sad state.
