Magic Resist Is Disgusting Right Now and Magic Resist vs Anti-MR Itemization Needs An Overhaul

Magic Resist Itemization AD MR Itemization: item 3156 item 3139 (soon Edge of Night) Tank MR Itemization: item 3065 item 3102 Support MR Itemization: item 3190 item 3174 item 3222 AP MR Itemization: item 3001 On-Hit MR Itemization: item 3091 Global MR Itemization (2+ Categories): item 3111 item 3060 item 3026 item 3512

Anti-Magic Resist Itemization item 3001 item 3135 item 3151 item 3020 item 3091

Not gonna lie, Magic Resist and Anti-Magic Resist itemization is AWFUL right now when you compare it to Armor and Anti-Armor itemization. Two of the Anti-MR items are also MR items, one is extremely niche and very reliant on another item (Rylai's + Liandry's), and another is so innately bought that it basically reduces Magic Resist for all enemies by 15 (Sorc shoes). The only remotely healthy anti-MR itemization is Void Staff, and that is ridiculous. AP has ONE remotely healthy anti-MR item! One! Riot, we need more good anti-MR itemization! Currently, we have one good one and that just isn't acceptable. Magic Penentration itemization needs just as much work as Flat Armor Pen currently does, if not more.

item 3001 Abyssal Scepter Both an anti-MR item and a MR item, which is unhealthy in itself since makes it a rush item for APvAP match-ups. In Season 7, it is being removed from the anti-MR itemization (essentially), with the Passive being changed to "Deal 10% increased magic damage in an aura" instead of "Reduce the MR of nearby units by 10-25" without ANY replacement being made. Cool, you have made Abyssal SLIGHTLY less of a rush item in APvAP lanes. However, it needs a replacement if you go this route. item 3020 Sorcerer's Shoes This item needs to be reworked, period. Boots shouldn't provide an effect like this since it basically causes all MR to be reduced by 15 against AP users due to how often it will be built on AP users. This item makes Riot have to balance the game around every champion having 15 less MR against the vast majority of AP users, which is just not healthy for the game. Sorcerer's Shoes need to be reworked to provide a different stat and then have a new anti-MR item put in it's place that isn't so global of an item. item 3091 Wit's End Another anti-MR item that is also an MR item, it shares a similar issue with Abyssal but not quite as extreme. It is one of the healthiest of the unhealthy anti-MR items, but it still isn't at a place that it should be. It is incredibly niche and basically makes it a ALWAYS RUSH THIS item in Magic DamageVMagic Damage teams that have an on-hit champion. It's not as huge as others here, but it could use tweaks. item 3151 Liandry's Torment This item is so incredibly niche AND reliant on another item (Rylai's) that I honestly find it shocking it wasn't decently modified in the Mage update. It's an Anti-Tank AP item, but the way it makes itself anti-Tank makes it only useful on DoT and Multi-Hit Mages. It's simply TOO niche and needs to be changed. It has it's users and they all LOVE the item, but it's a huge shame that the ONLY PURE ANTI-TANK AP item in the game is a super niche item. I also find it ridiculous that Haunting Guise only builds into this item. I mean, really? The only flat MR Penetration AP item in the game only builds into ONE item? That just seems silly.

Now accuse me of being a Mage circlejerk fanboy all you want, but this is the truth. Look at anti-armor itemization and then look at anti-magic resist itemization. Extremely drastic difference in the number of choices available to AD champions and a lot healthier to the game overall, especially once Season 7 hits. Anti-MR itemization is just truthfully awful right now and could be expanded upon and made a lot healthier for the game.

make void staff only work on bonus MR if ur gonna complain about not having enough anti-MR picks

APs arent' supposed to be anti-tank anyway. the entire point of the class is to be able to counter burst and you want non-DPS mages to be able to take them down?

That's what you get stuck on?

No, I don't want Mages to have an easier time taking down Tanks. I never said buff anti-MR itemization, I said make it better for the game. Currently, the only non-niche anti-MR item is Sorcerer's Shoes (which is actually TOO non-niche, effectively reducing MR effectiveness against a ton of AP users by 15) and Void Staff (which, as you said, could be made to be more like the Last Whisper items). I recognize that AP users should not be able to kill Tanks unless designed to, but their itemization versus MR is just ugly to look at and feels in general like a big mess. Void Staff is just the best designed of the worst designed.

I feel like a big reason as to why AP Assassins often end up not building AP is actually BECAUSE anti-MR itemization is SO BAD! Why would you build Ekko AP when the only way to counter someone building MR to counter your burst outside of innate boots is Void Staff and Abyssal Scepter? Seriously, unless you want Ekko building Wit's End, those are the only two items currently in the game that support AP Assassins when facing Magic Resist.

Anti MR itemization is naturally worse than Anti armor itemization. You can easily get 300 armor with 2-3 items. The same amount of MR require a full build. And that's because most magic damage dealing champs deal burst, and 50 MR hurts burst champions quite a bit.

On another note, void staff gives many champions more damage than deathcap, which is healthy how?

because i can fit more armor items into my build than I can MR because of the nature of AD vs AP

AD DPS requires me to build a lot of armor regardless. It would be ridiculous to have the one AP champion on a team shit all over me because it's impossible to fit 3 heavy MR items into my build.

AP assassins already have much higher burst rotations than most ADs, not to mention the absurd amount of utility most of them have.

I feel like the worst part is that HP counters magic damage hard already and no one buys/can buy Liandrys. Tanks/bruisers can just get armor items + maybe a item 3065 and the HP from those items makes AP champs non existent, especially ap assassins.

I mean technically mages aren't supposed to be killing them, but there are many mages who can. If you get deathfire touch, liandries, void staff, rylais any mage will have a piece of cake trying to kill bruisers and tanks. But nobody ever does. They always go rab cap zhonya's with thunderlords or some shit like that and wonder why they aren't melting tanks when they aren't building around it.

On the other hand, ADC's are broken because their anti tank build is just as good against squishies.

Well Im mainly talking about ap assassins. Feels pretty bad when you cant damage the guy with item 3071 item 3742 item 3143 mid game... Or anyone with just 1 defensive item really lol.

you say this like armor pen items are "healthy", there is a reason why it is being changed in the pre-season while MR pen isn't. The only thing you need is Void Staff while the rest of them is a case by case and champion dependent unlike armor pen that anyone and their mother can just stack it to ungodly lvls making armor itemization be redundant and god forbid the people building armor pen get ahead since that pretty much means you aren't having any armor at all for pretty much 90% of the game

Meep Man1 votes

Reading comprehension. I said in Season 7 Armor Pen especially is going to be healthy.

Pierce The Veal1 votes

Are you trying to say void staff is healthy? Because it's not.

Meep Man1 votes

No, I'm saying it's the healthiest of the unhealthy.

No, I'm saying it's the healthiest of the unhealthy.

I'd say it is the unhealthiest of them all.

Void Staff, Abyssal and Liandry's are three of the most common items on AP champs..

Did you play this game when DFG existed, if so, do you really want that era to come back?
