Does Anyone Actually Pick AP Mages Because they are Strong?

In the game's current position, I feel like the only reason people pick an AP mage is to balance out damage types on your team so that no opponent can just build full armor.

Obviously, an AP mage can get fed and hard carry, but I believe that AD champions are superior currently. Rabadons is so expensive that many meta AP champions use items such as Lyandries and Rylais.

Just some thoughts(as someone who mains pretty much only AD champions)

That's always been why you pick a Mage. You force itemization so that your ADC can perform better late game. A team of full armor tanks will steam roll an adc and an AD team. By using mages, you allow burst potential to knock out enemy carries as well as force MR, which is typically one to two less armor items built which greatly changes the ADC's DPS.

Most mages have more/better utility than assassins.

The only superior thing AD can do is tank shred because of item 3036

Cassiopeia Orianna Syndra Velkoz Ziggs Malzahar Vladimir Zyra can easily out damage all AD and AD carries on their team as long as the other team isn't 3-4 tanks stacking adaptive helms and spirit visages.

U complain about AD mid... but u don't understand why AP champ are better blind pick :

  • they have a safe laning phase
  • have no damocles blade above them (assassins must close the game fastly, cause they fall off)
  • AP have better push and depush
  • they're strong in team fight both for burst and utility
