Stomp or be stomped - it's just not fun anymore

SaltyToplaneGoat··116 votes·7,920 views

Ya know, once in a while something like a twenty kill difference at 19 minutes is something that can happen. But every single game? I'm seriously sick of it. If you are winning the game is lame as hell because you just farm the enemy champions for gold. And losing sucks even harder because why should you even bother when your chances to turn the game around are abyssimal low?

Not to mention that this causes quite some toxicity, which I find is reaching an all time high by now, even worse than in the last weeks of the season.

Extreme snowballing does not make games fun in any way. Knowing that you will lose by minute 13? Yeah, some weeks I go I would have laughed about that, said "just don't surrender, keep fighting". But right now? Usually at minute 14/15 I can tell when a game is lost - and although I try my best to work against that in more than 85% my prediction is correct - in the other cases the enemy team had a DC or started playing like total retards.

If that are the only things you can hope for when you get only slightly behind, then there has to be a massive flaw in the design of the game.

Also, what the hell? I never asked for shorter or stompier games and I don't know anyone with even half of a brain who would have wanted this. The charm of league is, or rather was, that it can be unpredictable and the power between the teams can shift several times in a single game.

That the matchmaking system tends to cause streaks in both losses and wins is not really helping with that either. A streak of stomping wins? Well, ok. A streak of losses where every game has been murderous stompfest? Pretty much ruins the mood of even the most motivated players, leading to more toxicity, leading to more ruined games due to toxic players, leading to more toxicity, etc

I might go and settle with another game until Riot fixes this mess, as right now league is no fun, neither in losing OR in winning.

The game has been feeling more snowball-y than usual lately. Not only do kills, objectives and gold all tip in one team's favor, but morale as well.

Maybe turrets could use a +bonus for each nearby enemy champion (or +bonus per enemy more than ally) to slow down the tower dives after one lane gets ahead.

SaltyToplaneGoat14 votes

Turrets as they are now are a bad joke, something that also plays into that.

Another problem could be the increase in passive gold gain. If you get only a little ahead you can get your powers pike items way before the enemy can deal with it, resulting in murderous snowballing.

Usually two-digit kill counts on a champ at 20 minuted was something only seen in bronze... now it seems to be normal even in gold league...

its all the minion systeam to blame.. there is no more laning. when you are ahead. you don't have to worry about other lanes. the enemy team groups together in groups of 5 while the poor losing team are splitting to protect whats left of their towers making the enemy team go 5v1, 5v2 most of the time

Actually

this all started WAY before the minion system.

The minion system just came here as a icing in the cake.

Some other problems that are causing this are how easy it is to take towers early, sometimes your team can just group and take out half of a lane in just a few seconds, changes to towers, TP nerfed, dragon is TOO important... also, the most recent item changes made it so that people are encouraged to play snowbally champions.

Riot has always have a balance problems, specially on Meta champion, rather than balance so all champs are viable, there is always just a handful of champs that cause of the unique of their skills or passive, 1 or 2 items is enough for em to dominate.

the idea that Hypercarry still exist is extremely dumb. Kyle, Yi, Yasuo, Ezreal, etc this are champs that you know that once they collect a few kill, they can not be stopped a (also notice how they are mainly AD champs or hybrids)

The problem is not the hypercarrys. Is when they are able to snowball easily.

Here are some examples of hypercarries Karthus Poppy KogMaw who are balanced because they can't snowball as easily as the champions you mentioned. Also, at late game even though they are incredibly powerful they can still be stopped. (except Poppy, but she can still be stopped with a team full of CC or TahmKench - also Poppy will no longer be an hypercarry after the changes).

Problem with Vayne and Yi is the fact that they snowball way too hard for how good their late game are. This is mainly due to their mobility which they can combine with their damage which allow them to be unstoppable.

Redaga1 votes

thats the main problem of ADC/ Hypercarry. Their high mobilty + damage output (vayne has bloody escalating True Damage) + AA

in all fairness Karthus only problem is how bullshit his R is + his passive after a team fight

and yeah, poppy knew reword is more balanced, but she is gonna be the ultimate troll in team fights

The goal was so that when you have a 5v5 , 10 people of the same skill level, go up against eachother matches won't go 40-60 minutes. Now if you're getting games that are like 3-20 and one team has 7 towers - 0 towers then that might just mean your team sucks (no offense, it happens to everyone). People manage to keep games like those a live for a long time just delaying the defeat. They made it so games like those either finish faster or let the losing team snowball if they were smart. Now if your team has 7-7 kills and 1-1 towers then most likely those minions won't turn into winions because you guys are both going towers onjectives. Thats all they wanted to promote---going for objectives.

well what i have experienced at all. -weird minion system -plastic base/turrets -rift herald buff (srsly i had games where we destroyed 3 turrets really fast in one push at 13. min. pretty strange that this dude stays untouched in most games) -Early kills/luck > Skill -way too much gold for killing turrets? -the map is more objective based than ever and well... if you snowball, the enemy cant contest the objectives anymore and you can snowball even more.

If they wish to keep this ungodly suckerfest of snowballing, changes should be applied for the max satisfaction --

  1. Lower champion initial gold for kill from 300 -> 100+10 each minute. Caps at 300
  2. Killing or Assisting on the kill of a champion, destroying or helping to destroy a tower, Killing or helping to kill Dragon increases gold bounty on your head by 100
  3. Killing or helping to kill Baron Nashor increases your current bounty by 200
  4. Legendary tier items can't be obtained until the 12min mark
  5. Towers are energized by each nearby friendly champion, increasing damage and attack speed by 25%
  6. If a tower lasthits an unit, nearby champions are awarded half the amount of gold and is distributed across all of them
  7. It takes 50% more EXP to go from Lv 1 to 6 on the first 8minutes of the game.
  8. Lone towers (No enemy or allied minions nearby, no allied champions nearby) obtain 75% damage reflection and 100% Armor Penetration
  9. Baron's aura on friendly minions causes Victorious Frenzy, increasing their damage done and attack speed by 100%, but to recieve 50% more damage from enemy champions
  10. First blood grants 250 bonus gold+base amount and nearby allied minions obtain Victorious Frenzy for 15 seconds
  11. Surrender time mark is now at 15min

Preaseason snowball fixed, comeback chances increased by granting the team that is killing and taking objetives increased gold when they die. Baron is no longer a death sentence for 3 towers nor renders AP champions completely useless against minions. No more Lux with Luden's @6min.

I agree with everything you just said until just now the game I just played, though my team just came back and won and we were getting our asses kicked, they killed Baron Dragon everytime we never got dragon and even had us down to just our nexus in pro rated games I think doing that would just make the game last way too long, the game is back and forth and after seeing my team come back like that it is possible very unlikely and they were idiots and we should have lost that game we had no adc and no support and our tank wasn't even building tanky so we should have lost badly but we didn't we got extremely lucky I'll admit but here's what I suppose I do agree that certain champions like Master Yi and others could easily snowball and become impossible to kill so number 1 is okay, anything you said about limiting amount of gold given I agree with, so 1., 2, 3, 6, 11, champions aren't supposed to take down the tower fast you want the minions to take it down you push your lane then you roam to another lane to help the first tower shouldn't fall until around the 10 minute mark at least but because it gives so much gold people rush it which might deter them away from that if they didn't get so much, and I like 6 cuz if your losing you are supposed to hug your tower making it very hard to farm against someone that's stupid aggressive keeping you under tower but anything else I think would really just prolong a game way too long, or either make the losing team be able to come back and win simply because of this fact they're a lot stronger having these advantages could prove too much for the winning team to end the game.

Sounds to me like you're just a victim of a defeatist attitude, I bet every game someone plays with you, you say "gg" after first blood and I can almost feel your negative attitude in your post nevermind in an actually game where you're losing. I've had TONS of comebacks this preseason, i've ever comeback from a 4-17 deficit with no afk's or anything on either side. The other team was actually saying "gg" to us.

The difference between you and me, 90% of the time I believe there's a way to win, where as you just imagine in your head there's not a way to win. This has nothing to do with the Gameplay. Riot said they've only see games end SLIGHTLY faster like a 1-2mins faster.

Sure there's some tuning to be done on things like Yasuo, Rageblade, Mundo, Minion Creep Block, Keystones, etc. However I do not see where you're saying every game is a stommp because it's certainly not for me.

Ps: I guarentee if you have a defeatist attitude you will turn more 7-10 games into 7-21 than turn them around and win, just sayin.

Normally I would agree with you 100% and I even try my best if we are behind a few kills. But the fact is games are significantly shorter due to snowballing. Out of the past 25 games since playing with the new updates only a few have made it past the 30 min mark and only 1 made it past the 50 min mark. And the main point is I JUST DON"T HAVE FUN anymore. The game feels heartless right now, I FEEL HEARTLESS when I play the game right now and it sucks. I really like this game, the characters, the world/lore, how riot has handled their pro scene, and the people I play with. This latest patch is super rough and buggy. Riot has basically put the game back into BETA. They still have a bunch of time to keep collecting data and figure out what direction to take before the next season starts, but as a player base it's important to express how the game makes us feel and our thoughts on it, so riot has as much information they need to improve.

lolptwo2 votes

Well here is the issue with the argument you're presenting, out of my last 25 games almost ALL of them made it past the 30min mark, several of them went into the 40 min mark.

Like I said, people opinions don't matter because that is not factual.

RIOT SAID GAMES ARE ONLY 1-2MINS SHORTER, THIS IS A FACT SO WHATEVER YOU PEOPLE ARE THINKING ABOUT THE STATE OF THE GAME IS WRONG.

because i understand that at some point, defeat will bring victory I know that its a game so i chill during my losses I know i can practice so i only pay attention to my lane, and my lane only, bots 4/20? well i'm playing fine because i'm 4/2/0, next time i'll play to get 5.5/0/0 I also know that eventually even though i'm playing against plats if i fail enough i'll face gold, and i've already demonstated i can kick their asses, so eventually i will win again.

The excitement of coming back and winning isn't worth the stress of playing from behind for 35 minutes in this meta.

And with fewer wards, more objectives to snowball with Herald, auto pushing lanes and 100% crit, there aren't that many ways you can come back. The only one is outplaying, and the huge gold leads make that harder and harder.

Nah it's fine. This preseason has brought out the toxicity in me but I've never been chat banned or suspended so I'm not as bad as others.

The simplest solution to the toxicity problem would be to change the surrender aspect from 4 votes needed to 3. Right now you get held hostage by a troll and the one person on your team who's doing good, a simple majority should be enough to quit the game.

3-vote surrender would literally ruin the game, please just go back to Call of Duty or Mario whatever makes you happy

I stopped getting constant stomps in 5.23. Most of my games recently have been very close, with my team losing early but able to comeback or the other way around. I've been finding a lot of throw games actually.

Stop, you're hallucinating, league is a dead game, towers are paper, enemy minions one-shot you, the game is about who auto attacks first, the team with the most kills auto-wins, there are no come-backs, back-dooring doesn't exist, kills are all that matters, everyone belongs in challenger, and reddit has the best solutions to the game.

  • Your average moron on the boards.

in all seriousness, i agree with you, the only thing thats changed is the pace of the game. Once you learn to adapt to the pace, it really is the same old game, but if you can't adapt you come to the boards and bitch about how the game is ruined.

Did you know? Pulling the same shit the same way and expecting the same results is sane. Pulling the same shit the same way and expecting different results is insane but now that shits gone and changed everyone who's bitchin on the boards is insane because they're expecting a different result without having tried to fix anything. OH OH OH, TDUBH FUCK YOU, I BUILT MORTAL REMINDER AGAINST A MUNDO!!! AND I STILL LOST Oh really, "checks build" nice botrk, i see you built executioners really on too! i - i - i what're you talking about i didn't build botrk! and i bought last whisper first! Oh really, you didn't try to build tank buster items and you lost :( :( :( YEAH CAUSE TANKS ARE OP!!!! AND I NEED THE DAMAGES!!! Oh poor little baby... its almost like not countering tanks resulted in being countered by tanks. YEAH, AND THEY SNOWBALLED. Umm, yeah that game that lasted 20 minutes before surrendering? Yeah THAT ONE! You had 5 adc's YEAH CAUSE THEY'RE OP and they had a malphite and a rammus YEAH RIOT SHOULD NERF THEM aaaaaaaannnnnddd not one of you built armor pen YOU STUPID, WE NEED 100% CRIT CHANCE riiiiiiiiiighht my bad. and the other game, that lasted 25 minutes i was watching it... someone gave first blood... and then 3 people afk'd YEAH TOO SNOWBALLY You never gave the game a chance FUCK YOU, YOU STUPID.

How i feel every conversation is on the boards except the one who's actually using reason gets downvoted because there are certifiably more morons who if not for mechanical skill belong in bronze than those whose intelligence would place them higher.

EDIT: By the way, i'm gold 2, i deserve it, I'm neither mechanically skilled nor a genius... but 90% of the predictions of the boards for the last few preseasons have been dead fucking wrong. The scientists secret: Quantity =/= quality

Restless Slumber1 votes

100% agree. There is no good reason for these complaints other than people causing the games to be so one sided themselves. If they think that all games are stomps, then they can't truly carry. Sure they can get fed and snowball, but a true carry is winning from behind and the win is on you. It's utterly retarded that people think that games are stomp fests when they haven't even attempted to carry. If you have attempted to carry, then it wasn't a stomp.

TDubH1 votes

Exactly, i hope to play with people like you in future games!

I had two comeback games in a row just yesterday. I mean, comebacks are possible, but they want to balance comebacks with carrying the game decisively.

Dengeden1 votes

Do you know what the alternative is? Someone gets caught and the opposing team snowballs the advantage. If the teams are even, the better teamfighters will try to fight and the other team will try to split. This will result in an endless back and forth until someone wins. Golly, fun.

With the way things are now, at least you can play to your strengths. Granted this leads to cheese, which a lot of players fall prey to because they're too lazy to learn about the game. Guess how much I care about them But on the other hand, it also means you can do anything you want if you play properly.

Gunslinger7442 votes

You don't even have to play to your strengths, your strengths are played for you. 100% crit chance, your lane pushes itself, towers are made of wet paper, "playing properly" just means whoever autoattacks a tower first wins the match.

Dengeden1 votes

Towers were always weak. You really think those 3-5 seconds they shaved off from tower taking suddenly decide the entire game? Gimme a break. "Playing properly" means securing objectives and not messing up. Yes, you don't just ignore free towers because you're salty about the meta. No, this doesn't mean I can't punish you for permapushing.

As a sidenote: 1. Your lanes pushing for you just means you don't have to waste time to make them push. Less dance parties mid, a plus in my book. 2. 100% crit is for scrubs who want to complain about mundo (or idiots who want to play Yasuo/Trynd)

I have been winning most of my last few games and my feel is also that games are shorter overall. When I lost a game, it felt as if there was nothing I could do because the minions pushed the lanes almost by themselves.

while I understand the idea that if lanes are pushed you can farm a bit safer closer to your own base, that also assumes that your team lets you farm. at the level I play (silver) if you leave your team for half a second to clear a big wave coming, it's the moment they decide to engage 4v5 and die.

if you are behind and push a lane and go teamfight, with equal minions your lane will continue pushing, which means eventually someone on their team might disengage to clear that lane. with the new minions the enemy minions will stop yours from continuing the push.

now I may be wrong but that's my current impression

I've comeback a few times from games where we under down in kills, towers, and objectives in general (baron/dragons/gold). It's a little harder to reach the state with the games currently level of snowball, but if you play late game champs and can hold out til then, you can comeback fairly easy (better passive gold and free home-guard helps with this). Same rules from last season apply just survive until 30-40 mins wait for someone to mess up/get caught out. Win.

I was in a game a couple days ago where my lane wasn't the only one getting absolutely destroyed, we were like 0/13 in kills by like 18 minutes in, but I farmed like a madman, hit level 18 at like 25 minutes in, and solo carried, comebacks are possible, I've had games where someone's essentially done what I just described myself doing to me. It's not ONLY stomp or be stomped. Just gotta keep your spirits up, I've noticed that I have a much higher chance of coming back in games that I don't think are just over because of a kill deficit.

Its because of the items, the increase in gold income, and what champions are strong right now.

There's no coming back from a fed jax, a fed irelia, a fed yas, or a fed trynd. And with Guinsoos being so goddamn good for most of them and with gold income being faster AND the masteries favoring auto attack based champions, its easy for them to get ahead and stay ahead. Games are over quick because people getting getting out stat-ed relatively early on now and it makes beating enemies difficult because it requires so much more work on the losing players end than it does on the one who is ahead. Not to mention we had auto pushing waves for the winning team and a new objective to help snowball top lane or jungle.

Its just bad right now. I wish they would have updated ADCs without changing anything else, the game would have been fine.
