Mage Update - Damage, Survivability, Resources (mana vs manaless champs)

So this is one of the GLARING issues AP mids have vs AD mids

Almost all AD mids are manaless (even the mana ones have very low mana costs and use auto attacks for damage)

AP Mage Combos at lvls 3-5 take ~30-40% of your mana MOST Mages have to use spells to farm CS and item 1056 gives you 5 mana for a CS...... If I have to use a spell to get that CS it is a net loss of 40-70 mana depending on the Mage

When a AP Mage goes for a full combo vs a Manaless AD going for theirs the AP mage will do the same or LESS damage And yet has LESS sustain as well.

We have to build mana or mana regen items while manaless go right for DAMAGE items

So at lvl 6-10 the Manaless champ will have more damage and more Def and can Combo over and over while the AP Mage will have less damage and less Def just to be able to comp. This and Ap Mages are less mobile as well.

This is the main reason why AP mages mid SUCK right now.

Zed, Yasuo build item 3155

Mage builds item 3070 or item 3191

So Manaless gets Offense and Def (because they have no need for sustain as D-Blade gives that) While Mage ether picks Sustain (no damage boost and no Def) or Damage and Def (but less then AD version) and no sustain.

See the issue?

When a Trade happens the Mage will use 40-60% of their mana in the combos. This will take MINUTES to get back

While the Manaless will be able to trade again in 20-30s

The Mages damage is LESS then the Manaless because of items

In the Mage Rework they need to address this issue.6

It's a good argument, but your forgeting a few key things.

  1. So mages don't necessarily need to build damage right off the bat. Their combo already brings a lot of raw damage to the table.

  2. Most mages (at least my mages) prioritize CDR that goes with sustain. Its like AS for mages but better because it means we can spam/combo/cc more. Which equals more damage.

  3. I have never seen a manaless champ combo for more than an AP champ. We just burst harder with some cc mixed in normally when we want to commit.

  4. Both of the manaless champs you listed were designed with the express purpose of hard countering an AP mage mid. Maybe you should list someone like an akali or jhin; Who either need support in mid from jungles or a weaker opponent to get ahead of the AP mage.
