@Riot, I find the dumping of % damage on champion kits a little bit excessive.

It's painful. I hate % damage. It's a cheap way for a champion to deal damage who ever they're fighting. Can you stop putting strong % damage on new champions? Especially tanks, like whyyyyyyy......

That damage itself contradicts what Riot has done in the past, and I'm not talking about "physics (Brand getting ignited)" but things like Darius, if you are close to him you will get hit by a handle, which will deal less damage, makes sense, right? iirc they made this kind of cheeky descriptions in abilities for example like Lux's E:

"Lux sends an anomaly of twisted light to the target area, slowing nearby enemies and granting sight of the area around it for up to 5 seconds."

They made it so the game abilities have a reason to do what they do, but, "Hey! You have no wounds, so my next punch will hurt more!" non-sense is just for the balance-wise. And it's not even doing its job.

Just a few thoughts, hope you can reply.

  1. What sort of %HP damage? %missing/current health and %total health have two totally different effects on the game, and totally different interactions in their kit. Having a %missing health execute for example sounds perfectly balanced if you remember to make sure the rest of the kit doesn't frontload a fuckton of burst damage Garen. %current health on the other hand makes it nearly impossible for that champion to snowball too hard. Think of it like this, if I tune a champion to do approximately 12% current health damage per second, then no matter what stage of the game in that example, they will always take about 8 seconds to kill somebody exclusively through their percentage damage. It also makes it impossible for certain champs to fall off in certain ways for the exact same reasons. You need to realize that, if used correctly, they serve a strong purpose.
  2. You especially want this sort of damage on most tanks. For a start, the amount of true tanks in League of Legends that can't also sub in for bruisers is abysmally low, so not giving tanks some tool for damage sounds ridiculous to the majority of the league community already breathing down Riot's neck for enforcing a meta. On the other hand however, giving tanks good flat damage and solid scaling into flat damage creates pre-rework Darius levels of bad design, having a naturally tanky champ who naturally has the tools to handle a sustained fight while also for some reason having the numbers to nuke squishy champs if he so much as looks at them. It makes sense to give a tank % damage for all the reasons noted in point 1, especially since their design as a whole naturally gears them towards forcing their gameplay patterns to be non-toxic even with this form of damage.

You're forgetting champions like Fiora and Ekko. Fiora's passive has additional AD scaling that increase the % of damage. You can actually build Fiora to a point where you can 4 shot anyone in the game, she can deal up to 90% or slightly more with 4 procs of her passive, with the highest AD items. It's just impractical because she'd be too squishy if she went 100% AD.

Ekko's W passive deals 5% + AP scaling which increases the % of the damage dealt. Granted that it only procs if target's are below 30% health.

Garen is the biggest perpetrator. % true damage. 1% for evey tick of his E and another 1% true damage per basic attack he deals. On top of a true damage % execute which can instantly delete tanks who secured a kill or accidentally stole them. Even worse for bruisers who are naturally durable.

% damage or healing (Darius) needs to be toned down in a lot of champion's kits. It's a cheap design strategy IMO.

Especially tanks? It makes the most sense on tanks.

TahmKench manages to get within melee range of Ahri item 3001 She then proceeds to tank his damage despite being capable of out-ranging and out-manuvering him.

Such balance.

Tanks shouldn't really have damage. They are tanks because they take a lot of damage and deal nothing.

That's not how this work, since tanks die quite fast come late game. They bring CC and conditional dmg.

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

Since when do they die quickly late? I play tanks pretty often and don't really find that problem.

They used to not die quite fast. The % damage that Riot's been putting in champion kits are making it so that tanks die faster.

Fiora Ekko Tahm Kench etc.

The general purpose of tanks now is to try to counter crit strikes which isn't that much of a problem as % damage. Vayne is an exception because she has incredible % damage. Tanks generally get hit hard by APCs.

i think % damage is fine

I think tanks having insane amounts of bullshit damage while being tanky as shit is fine.
