Penetration & Grievous Wounds Are IMPORTANT

In a Meta where there are 800 armor Sejuani's running around, healing Keystone's, Death's Dance and over-tuned lifesteal, and an unnameable amount of regenerating / healing champions... you simply cannot forget to grab these things. I can't even fathom why people aren't building them, but it's terrible. There's just absolutely no excuse for it.

b-b-but grievous wounds doesn't give more damage. like wards :(

Meep Man8 votes

They actually do, because healing prevented is essentially pseudo-damage dealt. It's like dealing 40% of the healing they would receive as true damage to them.

90% of midlane champions rush this as a first item item 3165

Cryo002 votes

This only gives grevieous wounds when they are below 35% health, so its still better that ADC's and AD assassins get item 3033.

But then, as you can see our Vlad main above in this comment chain, the vest isn't always an option. Vlad being a spell based healer. Of course he is alone in this category if i remember correctly Cass has to stay with you a while as she spams e

Vlad weaves in autos for damage in lane. :/

cass healing is pathetic unless she is fed off her mind and even then if she is fed you die before she needs the sustain.

And then that one guy who gets executioner's calling first item in lane.

Makes me wnat to kill myself.

The thing is you have to get them below 35% hp to begin with. Its pretty much impossible to do that with how much they heal anyway.

Yeah if it's a draven with death's dance. But then a filthy melee builds lifesteal and he's laughed away like nothing.

The GW is kind of a bonus, the real reason why Blizz has done that is because they fucked up at the MYMU when they deleted chalice from midlane while increasing mana costs and nerfing other mana and AP items like RoA and Rylai.

AP midlaners are being shoehorned into it, not the reverse.

which is why almost nobody should read those. I used them when i was new and leaning what champions had what abilites, ability scaling, and best item synergies, but now i know the names, numbers, and items enough that most of those guides from anything under diamond are just garbage and detrimental to gameplay.

I'm always a bit confused by the "there's no excuse for this" comment when it comes to gameplay related issues...

I mean, there's no excuse for it when you're playing with people who are truly good at the game. But that's a potentially VERY small group of players, depending on where you draw the line. Especially on items that are situational, such as executioner's calling, knowing when and why to build those items does have a substantial skill curve. It's only natural that lower tier players would be less sure of when to buy these items.

I would go so far as to say that there's actually a very good excuse for it, and in fact, it's quite expected a lower ranks.

CasterGilgamesh5 votes

that 800 armor sej comes because there is lethality since it devalues the real worth of the armor just by its existence needing to be taken into account .Same thing with grievous wounds and healing champions like Soraka VladimirDrMundo .these champions need to have even more healing then normal since people will just buy grievous wounds and nullify their kits which is cancerous and toxic to the game no items should completely invalidate half a champions kit like its nothing.item 3157 Vs Karthus doesn't count since he is not all about his ult and can still kill you without it

~ Your faithful mage main.

Arsenic Sulfur1 votes

You have Morellos. Sure you need to knock em down to 35%, but considering most mages not only rush this but are also quite bursty this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

no one buys Morellos for the grievous wounds...also you never notice it anyway since no mage will ever burst vald or swain down to where you see it unless they could already out right kill them in the first place in which the grievous wounds was overkill.

Sraeg20131 votes

You missed the point.

Unless I'm like Kennen or something I can't NOT build Morello.

800 armour sejuani? That's just bs.

ninjaroxas1 votes

ive had 1000 armor on her

SanKakU2 votes

It's only temporary. It's like synergy with Courage of the Colossus and little more. You can make huge Iceborn Gauntlet freezing fields with it, but it's not like the duration of the field scales with anything. :/

Sinlaire7 votes

sejuani's passive double her armor and magic resist every time it comes up with a little added base for the sugar on top. and by added base i mean 20/60/100 free armor and mr based on level while it's up.

There are videos and images of people breaking 1k on her just for fun. so i hate to be that guy, but maybe a little research and game knowledge before you speak bro.

Voluug132 votes

Its not like it matter because she is the only case where her armor can reach such levels, and its only very briefly during combat.

Also armor enters on diminishing returns by 400 armor. At 250-300 you already have 70% physical damage reduction.

Sinlaire1 votes

true, but Sejuani's passive manages two things. It gives her near soft cap levels of damage reduction in spite of armor and MR penetration items, and it makes her an anti- burst tank for upwards of 3 seconds.

even if you have a item 3036 for 35% bonus armor pen, on a 800 armor Sej you're only taking away 340 armor by my math. Which while normally is a god like amount, Sej is still left with 460. a full lethality build with a dominiks would only drop her to 400 and a BLack Cleaver with dominiks would still have her at about 250 with mental math and estimation.

Meaning Sejuani can initiate on an enemy team and, in spite of every ounce of armor reduction they may have, can still generate upwards for 70%+ damage reduction for upwards of 3 seconds for the fight. WHILE also bearing similar results for magic damage reduction.

This is also important because for the first 3 seconds of a team fight, this is when the enemy has nearly all of their skills and their CC off cooldown. Meaning for 3 seconds you get near god like levels of damage reduction regardless of enemy itemization WHILE they are at their most lethal. At which point your passive drops, you resistances fall to normal levels, but your enemies have already blown many of their biggest hitting abilities.

3 seconds of situational damage reduction isn't a lot, but it makes Sej an exceptional Anti-Burst tank by making her near unkillable for the first 3 seconds in which most people get their dying done.

Oriyoki1 votes

Yeah, I don't know much about Sejuani rework, other than that it's useless oh i'm a fat ass tank now bs fiesta. But still, she has if for few seconds. It isn't like there's Sejuani with 800 armour at all times running around.

in every game the team has two tanks you should go your crit items first right into your armor pen item 3rd because if you don't you aren't ever going to kill their front line and it doesnt matter how much damage you to do to squishies.

this applies to ALL metas.

even if the enemy front line aren't true tanks, but bruisers who have an armor item or two, still build it. like lee sin jax building mostly tank items after their primary damage item? LDR.

grievous wounds is also hideously underrated by lower elo players. if you are against maokai and you say "wow holy shit he is healing for so much" fucking buy your executioners. it doesn't matter how much damage you deal to him if hes gonna heal so much that he lasts a few more seconds.

generally speaking here's how it works

1.) tanks who have a heal (gragas/maokai, etc.) or swain/vlad/darius/mundo (or a soraka) types = Mortal Reminder

2.) standard tanks and bruisers who don't rely on healing and no other major healing on the enemy team = Lord Dominik's Regards.

Every game you will have to get one of these, and if you already got your crit get it 3rd. waiting till 4th or 5th item doesn't really give you nearly as much value. i mean you can build another zeal or crit item, but you still don't do that much damage to the only people you can hit. you can go bork or another lifesteal item but you won't get much value out of it since the passive is physical damage which is reduce by armor. you can build a defensive item, but it doesnt matter how long you live if you can't kill the front line.

whoever kills the enemy front line first usually wins the fight because then your team can fuck up their back line. so build to kill the front line as an adc. (unless are the broken piece of shit that is twitch and can flank the back line. )

Depends on the circumstances

If a tank or healer is fed, there's likely very little you can do. In the case of a tank, % pen does you no good if you don't have items to back that up. In the case of healers, especially damaged based healers like Vlad and Swain, their healing isn't the problem when they're fed: them 100-0ing you is the problem. In these cases with Vlad or Swain, I actually think you're better off trying to get your damage items asap and playing around the idea of bursting them because you have no hope of living through a second or third round of their spell rotations if you've managed to cut their healing anyway when they're that fed. As for tanks, yeah you can't do much until you have core damage items first because first, second and in most cases even 3rd item Last Whisper is bad.

However, on even grounds and under the right circumstances, it is absolutely inexcusable. It's like ADCs that build lethality when behind vs tanks. Or when people build last whisper and the enemy team is all squishies. Bad is just bad my dude
