How do "meta slaves" feel like when playing the game?

So, a while ago, a dude added me, I was ok with that (now we no longer talk), but what I noticed about him, is that he's a meta slave.

Like, before the Eve nerfs (and their rollback), when Eve was top jungler, the guy was like "Eve is the best girl, I play her for how she feels", after the Eve nerfs, he dropped her harder than NSL, and picked up Xayah, then bragging how she's the best waifu, and you can guess what happen soon after the Xayah and Rakan mini nerfs, when Kai'sa became the best adc around.

Now he's on the Irelia "best girl in the game, #1 fan", so that got me questioning:

How does a meta slave feel when playing the game?

Me for one, find it a bit disrespectful to the champions themselves (yea yea, I know the are just pixels, gimme a break), like, you put time into learning them, then just toss them aside and never touch them again until they are a broken mess of op stats, how does that feel?

That's how the game goes if you want to play competitively, if you play a (off-meta) champion in rank, you can have a lead and the (meta-champion) can be losing, but most likely you guys will be even in the end. Meta champions separates the difference between winning and not winning, because that champion is meta for a reason. My personal opinion is I somewhat like it, but when I want to play a champion that is off-meta he gets stomped completely.
