Gutting Champions May be an Example of Bad Game Design(Opinion)

Gutting champions has always been a thing in League. When a champion gets too strong and Riot can't seem to nerf them properly, they just gut them. This could be from a toxic playstyle such as Aatrox and Vladimir, being too powerful when used properly like Azir and Kalista , or hell, just if Riot doesn't want to see them so much in competitive like Shen.

I don't know if you all consider these champions gutted, but I think they're in some pretty bad states right now, but this is without checking win rates or anything. Azir, Kalista, and Aatrox will likely need changes if they want to reach a normal balance level without being overbearing.

League is definitely never going to be completely balanced, nor should it really be anyways. But it still stands that we shouldn't just gut champions when they are a problem and leave them for dead. If a champion is gutted, Riot should think of a way to buff them back without being a problem.

Champions I consider gutted, or at least just left weak: Azir Aatrox AurelionSol Kindred Shen Taliyah Vladimir Mordekaiser (He really needs a VGU to get balanced by now)

This is just my opinion on what champions are gutted, and why we shouldn't gut more. Dumpstering a champion and leaving them in the dust just feels like bad game design. For a lot of these champions, their only hope of getting balanced is either through small reworks like Shyvana, class updates, or even full-blown VGUs or just GUs (Vlad, Aatrox, and Morde need it) Asides from that, the problem could just be Riot keeping them low for competitive play or for worry that they'll become OP with the slightest changes. It's a bad idea to keep champions weak JUST for the small portion that is in LCS and Worlds or whatever; and if a champion will become OP with even small changes, shouldn't that champion receive larger tweaks?

Like I said, this is all my opinion. Yours is likely different, but I just wanted to get mine out there.

It's an example of the cry for diversity overpowering the need for balance IMO, which riot has failed to recognize over the last 2 years.

How do you keep a champion viable that counters 100% of the melee roster? Kalista

How do you keep a champ viable that has versatility in engaging and disengaging, poke DPS AND counters all melee champs? Azir

no your opinion is the same as a lot of peoples, mine included, now Kindered for example is weak due to item changes and just a meta shift and the jungle changes who is also receiving buffs in 7.3.

champions like Azir/Kalista riot themselves have admitted to being during a phase of ''innovation over balance'' which they deeply regret and ended sharply and now a few champions like these are left needing reworks to work in pro and soloQ and not be godlike.

Aurelian sol and Taliyah both excel in a team setting where people play together, so they are not gutted what so ever and not weak they just require communication to shine and you see this at pro level, plat 3+ on streams.

shen vlad are just not in the meta and morde while he is powerful struggles to fit into a spot, i think they should re-work him into a support role personally. Vlad needs a WW level rework in my opinion while he is fine he's just too volatile, Aatrox as well needs updating and he is being updated in the fighter/diver update soon.

shen just isn't in his Meta right now.

thats looking at it from an objective point of view and some-what realistic.
