Matchmaking in FlexQ is a joke

Yes yes yes, the obligatory trolls saying 'git gud' 'ur bad' etc., 'You're just bad', etc.

When you're climbing for Gold V in flex for the bonus skin, only to find matches like this extremely common, especially in promos, it's a little ridiculous

And I know I will absolutely be inundated with mindless chatter about how these players are not yet ranked in flex, so therefore they are in my games. It seems to happen very often that the team with the higher MMR wins, as typically they do so by a hundred or more points (like a Silver player in lane vs a Plat player; almost always results in the Plat player winning and snowballing before anyone can even do something to help said Silver).

But yes, totally reasonable that to reach S1 in Flex you have to near constantly beat Plat players or Diamond players.

I mean seriously, if I wanted to play against Diamond or Plat players I'd just do normals. I don't know if Riot knows what matchmaking is, probably not based on the number of Diamonds I get in my normals, but stuff like this will cause a lot of players to ultimately get upset and quit. When the game is telling you that "You're bad" b/c you are in the 'Silver' bracket of FlexQ (constantly facing Plat+ mains of their roles and champs), and you're struggling to climb b/c of it, it's a little silly.

I didn't want to win my promos anyways, which is why I was glad when I got repeatedly matched with a (Plat 2, yeah to get S1 you just gotta beat a Plat player, have fun!) Lee Sin OTP for both my promo matches who has more games on Lee Sin than I do in LoL.

I don't even want to imagine what you have to do to get to Plat in flex, face off against Challenger players?

Again, before I'm inundated with repeated spam about 'Every Q has a different MMR', stop to think about that for a second, shouldn't it make sense that the game would use your pre-existing rating as a baseline for new Q's? I'd hazard a guess that a Challenger in SoloQ isn't going to struggle all that much against Bronze-Diamond players, so it wouldn't make sense to start their MMR low. You shouldn't be Plat and facing Silvers or Bronzes in Flex, it's almost unilaterally going to end with the team who simply has the higher amassed ranks winning, as typically rank denotes consistent skill.

There needs to be a better system in place, the one we have doesn't make sense. "If you want to pass Algebra 1, you better know Calculus and Trigonometry!", it makes just about as much sense as that.

Just my thoughts, I think we need to see some serious changes in the upcoming season.

i don't know why you're looking at solo queue mmr when talking about flex queue games.

I see, so when you're trying to climb in flex, and are in promos, you wouldn't mind facing Imaqtpie and whatnot? "i don't know why you're looking at solo queue mmr when talking about flex queue games.", I'm sure that Imaqtpie goes from Challenger to Gold or so when he decides to do flex instead of Solo, same thing for all Diamonds, Plats, and similarly ranked people.

if imaqtpie's flex queue rank had settled on gold for any length of time, that would mean he's actually playing like a flex queue gold player on that account.

I was in my Silver 1 promo, with SoloQueue DIAMONDs in my game. Like what the hell. Multiple games in a row.

MMR is a joke in all Ranked games.

Riots system is very flawed. It does not work. It hurts SoloQ players the most.

I've been playing vs solo q diamonds in flex since the 3rd placement game. They are typically in off roles they suck in anyway. Even if they aren't the whole point of this queue is teamwork, you can easily close the skill gap with good decisions and cooperation.

haha, we are in the same boat.

my game in silver 1 flex queue:

My team: P3 D4 D5 D4 P4 (me)

Their team: D5 S4 (unllucky) unranked (season 6 d5) P5 D3

LOL. This is silver. Like God help that legit silver (he got crushed and probably was the reason we won so hard, but he did play admirably for a silver).

AND how in the hell am i supposed to make it to g5 easily with this...I play flex queue to relax...

unless that s4 is duoing with that d3 i dont know how this happens...

reminds me of last season when my mmr was so inflated i had to beat plat 5's (gold 1 avg) to get out of s2...in ranked solo... maybe our mmr is inflated right now lol.

Flex queue has its own MMR system, very much like ranked and Norms. Your SQ rank only affects these scores in minor ways. It sucks, I know, but that is how the system is.

I feel the pain though, I placed against plats regularly in norms with the occasional gold or diamond. It feels unfair but that's how it is.

Doesn't exactly make much sense, when attempting to get to 'Silver' you have to consistently and constantly beat Plat or higher players.

And yes, when and if QT were to start doing Flex on an account he never had before, he would be facing Silver and Golds, even if he were ranked Challenger in SoloQ, it doesn't take that into consideration.

I'm gonna get hate for this, but you realize flex is one of riot's tactics to keep the playerbase going, right? You play with your friends despite one of them being soloQ diamond 1 and another from soloQ bronze 5. Is it fair? No. Even if you get an exactly same matched team in terms of solo Q ranking, it won't be fair. Is there a simple way to solve this? No. As long as the solo Q MMR are remotely reliable, it will show that there is a distinctive gap between the two players. What can Riot do about it? Sure, they can remove it altogether, which is what they did.*

This is just a very short history of how flex queue came to be, and I hope this helped you better understand why Flex Queue is what it is. My advice? Stay off Flex until you can accept that most of the time, it's not gonna be fair. Try to find that sweet spot in Solo/Duo. Or practice champs in flex, because most of the time, it provides a more relaxing atmosphere. Hit me up anytime you wanna chat, or just to vent. After all, what kind of gamer would we be if we don't complain? Certainly not League ones. hehexd

*You probably weren't here for most of season 6-7, but Solo/DuoQ disappeared and got replaced with "Dynamic Queue". Which removed solo queue altogether and turned it into flex. The only other ranked option was 5v5 teams. So if you are a solo player, you didn't have fun. As common as it is for riot to receive piles of complaints about any drastic changes, this was by far a controversial topic where the player-base voiced their concerns, and Riot just said "Nah." for the good amount of half a year. **If any Rioter is reading this, please understand that I personally comprehend it's not easy to satisfy a broad spectrum of people, and I have nothing against you, personally. We are usually never in control of the structure that we are a part of. Keep doing well, and good luck! [slayer-jinx-catface]
