Playing support is one of the most painful thing to do in league

The Deckowner··3 votes·886 views

u can win ur lane even if ur adc is bad, but ur bad adc will eventually lose the game because of the lack of skill, and u cant do much about it because u are a support. u can stay alive and always help ur team when they needed, but a lot of the times they just fight without u and got destoryed 4v5 because they think supports arent important. u are often the person who keeps the map warded, but you can only place 3 wards, ur team always face check bushes and barely buying a single pinkward or use their free trinket. u are the one giving up ur opportunities of getting gold and solo experience, but your teammates dont give a shit about cs they just want kills. u are the one who never gives up ur teammate no matter how shitty they are, but they will always be toxic and blame u for every dumb move they did. as a support main with a 60% winrate i disapprove this message.

winning doesnt mean everything, yes it feels good when i win, but one or more of the teammates are doing stupid things that negates all my effort to help them(ie adc refused to pick up lantern and end ip burningflash then died and called my trash for staying in a safe spot so he could lantern) it makes me feel really bad.

LF Annie1 votes

thats why i play supports that are fairly self reliant, IE morg, naut, annie, brand

TotalJerk1 votes

This is going to happen regardless of what role you play. Have you never snowballed super hard mid and still lost?

The Deckowner1 votes

just feels more overwhelming when playing support, because say if u are a very fed assasin u might be able to all in a sudden play like faker and won the game single handedly, not really possible with support.

And this is why it sucks to be a support main trying to climb in soloQ.

TotalJerk3 votes

If you want to win in SoloQ as a support you need to figure out who on your team is useful and focus on supporting them exclusively. If your ADC is a fucking idiot, don't be afraid to hang them out to dry in favor of your mid. Before every engage, consider how useful every player around you has been. If there are no useful players around, don't engage.

If I have set you up to succeed repeatedly, and you've failed to take advantage of it, I'm not going to stick my neck out for you again because you clearly can't be trusted and my efforts can be better used elsewhere.

It's not nice, but it's the harsh truth of SoloQ support.

Cavemantero2 votes

Use Ashe or Kindred for support if you think your adc is going to be piss poor. Then again, its really hard to tell that in solo queue isn't it? God I hate solo queue...its why I don't play ranked.

HEAljvLykd1 votes

Maybe it's because of low elo and you really don't know how to support that is making support so painful.

When your adc is at 9 cs and the enemy is 23 you know you have a problem...

Yeah, it's called low elo.

maybe i got my adc 5 kills and he has only 24 cs in 10 minutes

hence why you play a supp that does damage like zil or annie or lux. go ap and bam no problem

1 problem with that. No income. Its hard enough to build "normal" even with income items, I'd imagine it would be extremely frustrating to do this without income items.

khorney1 votes

i have 0 problem building "normal" building items on zil pretty much every match i am able to reach most of my full build so i really dont see how your unable to

Are you stealing your adc's cs to do this ? It takes forever to complete normal AP items w/o CS.

No I literally have no problem getting the items I need ss/ frost queens the combo item . zekes Harold ludens meijas I don't see how you have a problem

Try getting item 3089 or item 3116 on a support's salary. The item 1058 component is too expensive. It requires that you sit on other components too long before having enough to get it and then there's the wait to get the gold to combine them after. In other words, the lower support income means your power is stagnant for long periods.

i get niether of those for starters last item for me. look at my zil games im not lying match history and filter by champ zil you will see i have no problems getting the items i need

I never doubted you. I'm just saying to me it feels harder to build traditional AP as a support for me and I love to build items like Rylai which have harder build paths if you have no income.

A only a noob rushes deathcap. 2 i may get kills sometimes hey zil q does massive damage and jannas w is actually really strong

Getting Deathcap with even the weakest of AP items give you a massive powerspike.

khorney1 votes

u really need to learn items then ... only a noob would rush deathcap it is a 3rd item at best sorce shoes lich bane roa hourglass moro all better options to get then deathcap death cap isnt acore item on anychamp

The Deckowner1 votes

the problem is even with gold income items (especially when most mid ap also builds fqc) supports are most likely to have much less gold than solo lane mages, ur dmg output is not competable against a real mage.

and i refuse to call those who doesnt get sightstone/support item a support.

khorney1 votes

Have you seen what zil can do.... 90% scaling on a move that does like 400 damage by itself how is that not good. ..... I get ss zekes sorc shoes ludens not sure how you don't get close to this but okay . gold income quins and seals do matter and help

The Deckowner1 votes

no one said zilean is bad, idk where u got that from. we are talking about gold income. use zilean as an example, u need to get sightstone and fqc before u get into building ap items, and at that point the mages already have 1.5 or 2 ap items, so u have 60 ap when enemy has around 150 or more, u cant compete.

and if u say u dont get sightstone and fqc then i am sorry i wasted my time.

there are 3 annoying things about being support

1- having a kamikaze adc

2- having an adc that blames you for his mistakes

3- having a Blitzcrank in the other team.

Big Lincoln1 votes

idk why someone else being shit would ruin your game as a support if you're any good at actually supporting

if your ADC blows dick then don't waste time with them in teamfights, peel for your mid, jungler, whoever's worth the effort to keep alive

Lovely Pants1 votes

Being a dedicated solo q support is pretty easy with the right mindset. Some people say you should play more self-reliant damage supports and such. I don't have any truck with that if it's what you're comfortable with.

But, and this might sound crazy to you, I actually prefer to get by in this game by putting my complete confidence in my teammates as a support. It's much more satisfying to me when I can muster together some teamwork with strangers for victory rather than just brute forcing my way.

In some ways gung-ho, terrible at positioning and timing teammates are the simplest to work with because they're so predictable. If they're going to be suicidal anyways I know that the most impact I can have on the game is by paying attention to their risky behavior and doing what I can to stack the odds more in their favor. If I see a teammate constantly wandering through the unknown jungle, I'd rather stick near them and sometimes trade off securing the absolute best vision spread for one which is simply going to keep them alive in the next minute or so.

My #1 philosophy is this: It always works better to do something stupid together than to do something smart alone.

I can't seem to win with Lux supports. Every one I've played is a "support" that won't stop auto attacking the wave and builds full AP, rushing shit like Rabadon's. They typically don't even build a sighstone unless the rest of the team complains, and even then it's like 50/50.

[{quoted}](name=A Latte Trouble,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=UhZ2WfH1,comment-id=0009,timestamp=2016-01-10T08:29:14.185+0000)

just build how you'd build a normal mid laner after you finish FQQ and Sightstone.

Don't do this

Don't bother feeding all of the kills to your ADC; take them yourself if you have the opportunity to.

Or this

Ashe (vision, perma-slow, poke, stun) or maybe Caitlyn (maxing traps first would give you amazing zone control in lane. Starting relic shield would allow you can stack your headshot on minions). No idea how exactly it would work, but with practice and experimentation I have no doubt you could make it work for you. I actually kind of want to try AD Janna support eventually.

Or any of these.

I've mentioned this in another comment, as a support in SoloQ you need to spend the early game assessing the value of each of your teaamates and focus mainly on enabling and protecting the most useful player and generally not trusting anyone who has proven themselves to be useless.

alfavhunter1 votes

Solo Q supporting is rough

Even in higher elos it can be a pain due to the fact you likely will not have voice chat with your adc or allies and the Enemy duo+Q on the other team does

This reduces reaction time due to slower communication

I've carried some games as a Janna, wasn't easy but I did it, not through guarding my adc or allies alone mind you, I built banner of command and controlled minion push and lead my team to defend vs a siege of 5v5, when they engaged I disengaged them and when they tried to stop the minion wave we chased, just to disengage when they turned back to us, rinse and repeat until they fully send someone to stop the minions then it's a 4v5 and we have strength in numbers and that's when we fought, and won the fight and pushed for the win due to game duration resplendent times

But not all games are carry able

The adc was half decent, if it was a worse adc we would have lost hands down

The Deckowner1 votes

yah u are right, but its just very frustrating how the mechanic of the adc determines the result of ur effort, not ur own mechanic.

Just Blame Jenny1 votes

Getting fed on a support is doable, but you really have to roam a lot and get make some good ganks (or pray to god that your adc is actually decent). The problem is that if you do this, you're basically throwing your adc to the wolves.

Is it worth it in solo queue? Sometimes. If your adc is losing hard anyway, you're probably better off roaming and helping the rest of your team get ahead. But it's not always practical.

Check out my "I don't understand why I'm losing with Nocturne" thread if you want to see game after game after game of 15/4 or 10/4 Nocturnes losing because of ragers, feeders or AFKs. I also play support and I get 100x less toxicity as support than as jungle.

The Deckowner1 votes

i dont even wanna talk about jungle, people abuse the shit out of u when u are the jg.

I dunno, it's like pregnancy.

At first—eh, nevermind.

Supporting has its merits, but it's for certain kinds of people.
