Why would a Smurf throw games every so often

So I cant post the player because of Riots stupid Rules but I was vs a Smurf a few games back.

Looking up his account his game history as an ADC is like this

LOSS: 5 levels down from his teams highest level, 2/5/1 WIN: 14 / 5 / 8 LOSS: 9 Levels down from his teams highest level 1 / 3 / 0 WIN: 17 / 7 / 5 WIN: 20 / 7 / 11 WIN 14 / 7 / 17 LOSS: 7 level down from his teams highest level 0 / 2 / 1 LOSS: 9 levels down 0 / 1 / 0 LOSS: 5 / 7 / 4 LOSS: 31 / 21 / 12 WIN: 23 / 5 / 5

It goes on and on like this Win Streaks are no more then 3 games then he will throw 3-4 games

Thing is it looks like he is climbing just slowly

What is the point other then a Smurf trying to stay in a ELO?

FYI I reported him to Customer Support so Will keep an eye to see if Riot will ban him.

  1. Riot doesn't actively ban smurfing.
  2. Different smurfs have different incentives for smurfing. Some want to Twitch/Youtube a climb. Some just want to pull the stupid crap they don't dare do on mains. Some actually want to derank. Some..... like me.... just want to play around with itemization and pick up champs they are rusty on or have never played.

I have a friend who simply made a TFT account, and this season decided for jolleys that he'd derank that account to Iron IV. His scores look a lot like the ones you're mentioning. He's a D III smurf. He just plays well enough to carry KDA, but doesn't put effort into objectives etc. If he's trying to lose, he's basically a vacuum for resources, so that everyone else is suffering for gold/xp, while he's performing a 1 man show. Then he just gives up on the 1 man show, and they lose. He doesn't intentionally fall behind on levels though.

AFKing is reportable and that's what that looks like.

Sounds more like ragequitting/afk than throwing. If its really a smurf he might think, oh its just my smurf, leaves and logs into a different account.

So that the account does not rank up too quickly
