Dodging should not make you lose LP

Especially until a PROPER ranked matchmaking system beyond everyone getting into a room and hoping their main roles fall in line.

I should NOT have to deal with someone who is a "toxic" asshole literally less than 2 minutes into champ select, because they didn't get a ban they wanted. I should NOT have to choose whether I get a drop in LP for avoiding a game with someone who threatens to AFK if they don't get their role as last pick I should NOT have to go into a queue with a 20% chance of playing what I like to play and hoping the other 4 people had the courtesy to do more than "only know how to play X" thinking they're ready for ranked.

This should have been fixed years ago. We're in season 4, and if matchmaking with actual player interest in mind is not a priority, then Riot, you need to be the ones to bite the bullet for once on this, not the players.

Yes, people should band together despite disadvantage and try for a win. Yes, people should accept they won't get their role every time, or be firstpick every time. That is not reality, Riot, and it's well past time you guys realize that and do something about it. Losing a game because some douchebag didn't get to play ADC (the only role he knows how to play yet thinks he's ready for ranked) and decides to throw himself at the enemy team saying "lol should've let me have adc" IS NOT A MEASURE OF ANYONE'S GODDAMN SKILL.

I don't give 2 shits if some guy I will literally never see again gets banned for intentionally feeding, what I care about, what I'm sure almost everyone cares about, then, right there, when they're doing that, is "man, I wish this could've been avoided", which would happen if there was actual matchmaking focused on players. Sure, that same guy might still be a toxic asshole, and might still cost us the game, but at least he might try to win for the first 10 minutes.

Players are held ransom by the will of douchebags and the inability to avoid guranteed problem games without suffering, and it's apparently not high enough on the list for Riot to fix even years into the game's existence. Team Builder is a step in the right direction, but at this rate it'll be YEARS before we see any kind of ranked implementation.

The problem with not loosing LP with dodging is this:

People will dodge games.

Which is especially annoying in ranked, because those matches have a very long set-up time due to the picks/ban phase.

You're wasting the time of 9 other people if you dodge, which can add up to a collective hour of time with the setup for ranked games. Especially considering just about everyone that does dodge due to "toxic" players waits until the very last second to do so.

Also - a wide range of PvP games do actually encourage dodging and avoiding tougher opponents outright. Pretty much every 'hardcore' game you can get on an I Phone works under that premise. With Clash of Clans you're much better off constantly backing out of even fights until you just get one the odds are clearly in your favor. You're the only person participating in those matches so that system works, and as a lot of those games are pretty binary it adds some degree of interest to their ~PvP. There price structure mostly just favors those who spend a lot of money or play the game non-stop anyways.

But constantly dodging until you find an opponent you have a clear advantage over is a pretty obvious way to abuse the ladder system in a game like LoL. Loosing LP is necessary to stop that.

Furthermore - wait times to get into a game are a really big factor for actually keeping interest in a game. Which removing the LP penalty would cause massive damage to. One of the chief reasons Riot has stated they aren't really supporting maps like Crystal Scar and Twisted Treelines is because of wait times. The more the player base is spread out, the longer it takes to find opponents that want to play at the same time. If everyone mostly just plays 1 map, then the queue time for that map isn't going to be very long. Offer no penalty to dodge a match - and there's a pretty solid chance 10% of the player base are going to screw over the other 90%. It only takes 1 asshat to make getting into a game take that much longer.

Finally - a lot of toxic players aren't that hard to deal with in-game. Muting them usually covers 90% of the annoyance, and a decent number of potentially toxic players I've run into are mostly doing it half-heartily (or are just really bad at it). Mostly they're just trying to piss you off at any rate - if you get mad things can spiral out of control, if you keep a cool head it's pretty hard for them to effect much. The in-game screen also says they're something like 13%~23% more likely to loose games, which, while not amazing, is also not 100%. It's entirely possible to win with them on your team. On that note - being truly good at something usually means you're great at getting back up when you fail and learning from your mistakes, it's almost never from being super lucky and having everything go your way. Look at Lance Armstrong - he had to deal with testicular cancer. So - maybe take the opportunity to learn communication and persuasion techniques with that player. Learn what you can do from a disadvantage, what calls to make when you're behind, how to win a game as an underdog team, basically how to be #1 while missing a nut (or rather having a nut on your team).
