An in-depth reasoning of why new Mordekaiser will never work

First of all, knowing Riot's attitude towards constructive criticism made by community, if Rioters actually listen to this, I'm going to soak my own dick in gasoline, set it on fire and then chop it off. But, in a faint hope that there is some glimmer of reason left in Riot's balance team, it is worth a try.

Mordekaiser is intended to replace a bot-lane ADC. And here we run into the most fundamental problem. Some facts about Mordekaiser:

  1. He is melee
  2. He is slow and lacks any mobility spells
  3. He has no form of hard or soft CC
  4. Most importantly, three of his four abilities deal damage over time and require him to remain in melee range. More on this point later.

And you intend to send him into botlane. Botlane is dominated by champions who have high, reliable RANGED sustained damage, more often that not coupled with mobility and/or some form of self peel. Which means he is going to take lots and lots of poke with little to no ability to retaliate. Let's see how Mordekaiser would fare against some of popular ADC picks:

Jinx - she sees Mordekaiser running slowly walking towards her. She casts her E in-between them. Mordekaiser has no means of reaching her now outside of flashing over. Vayne - she can kite Mordekaiser infinitely with a combination of 2 second Tumble, core BotrK active, and, if all else somehow fails Mordekaiser has zero chance of catching up agains condemn. Kalista - do I even have to explain? Lucian - movespeed boost and CD-reducing dash. Mordekaiser has no chance.

See the problem? Only reliable damaging ability Mordekaiser has here is his E. No more ricocheting Q off minions. No more Creeping Death. Oh, and his E base damage got severely nerfed. So basically, he has 1 damaging ability and it is shit. This also means that he lost 1-2 AoE abilities, which means his wave clear is gone too. And what were two of Mordekaiser's strengths? Damage and waveclear.

Now, back to point 4. Let's analyse Mordekaiser's Q and W.

Q requires Mordekaiser to remain in melee range for 3 autoattacks. Tell me, how many times were you devoured in lane by Tahm Kench? I'm sure you can count it on the fingers of one hand. You see a problem here? He will never, EVER trigger his Q on a competent opponent by himself... except if his support can lock them down for prolonged periods of time.

W requires both Mordekaiser and his support to remain in close quarters for 4 seconds. What does that mean? Mordekaiser's support has to be a tank or bruiser, someone who wants to get up close and personal.

Looking at these qualities, what supports can go with Mordekaiser? Likes of Soraka and Nami are out of the question. You want Leona, Braum, Thresh, Blitz, even Jarvan. ...wait, so a combination of two melee champions bot lane who bring high damage and CC in order to kill or deny an enemy. That sounds oddly familiar.

KILL LANE Yup, Riot. You are either deluding yourself or openly lying to us when you say that Morde will be an ADC replacement. You aren't reinventing anything. You are not forcing him into a bot lane. You are forcing him into a bot KILL lane. That's not even a gimmick. That's a gimmick inside of a gimmick. And for this gimmick Mordekaiser pays with his viability in other lanes. Tell me, how often do you see kill lanes in pro games? Almost never. And why is that? Because ADC is too valuable. Because kill lane is reliant on... well, killing their opponent or risk being in a huge mess late game.

And his scalings are now all over the place, meaning that he will almost never be able to build effectively His spells have took a massive base damage nerf in return for hybrid scalings. So, what should I build? AD? AP? Some weird Gunblade/Rageblade hybrid? And his shield is now a part of his max HP? Do I need HP too? And since I lost resistances from my W, do I also need resistances to make my shield effective? Should I still buy Rylai? Or Frozen Mallet for his AD scalings? Buying some form of stickiness is a must if I wish to utilise my Q.

But CertainlyT says he can't see how Mordekaiser can be healthy in solo lanes. Ah, the Kancerkaiser himself speaks. He obviously hasn't faced his own creations in solo lane. Hasn't had the pleasure of playing someone like Singed versus Kalista and being able to catch her only if she DCs. Hasn't experienced the frustration of playing as melee against Darius at his prime. Or the #1 cancer botlane of Thresh and Kalista, both his creations. Give me 10 Mordekaisers and Teemos before 1 Darius, Kalista or Yasuo. So he's the last person who can use the term "Healthy".

Anyway, let me correct you: There is no way for Mordekaiser to be healthy in a DUO LANE. Simply because ADCs are gruesomely overpowered. To compete, Mordekaiser has to be gruesomely overpowered too. To be viable, he has to be able to completely murder his opponent in a window of lockdown his support provides. And if he can murder his opponent in 3-4 seconds... What's to stop him from terrorising solo lanes much harder than now?

TL;DR. @Riot: Fire CertainlyT. Make someone who knows what he's doing do the Juggernaut changes.

I don't know where people get the details but I agree...for instance, 35 damage on his E level 1...that's the lowest damage poke i've ever seen! not only is he BARELY IN RANGE of an ADC, his active ability now does LESS than his own auto attack and their own

his shield is nearly worthless in bottom lane, why? because it's not strong enough to take harrass poke. It is there to keep him alive...it can't do that if he can never proc it....come on riot

another post mentioned that he could now use his ult against dragon and have a dragon minion...yeah, working together with the jungler to have a free ranged tibbers is a cool gimmick, but you are losing farm and lane for this "gimmick"

Mordekaiser is known for three things only: he's immobile, has really high damage, and has a shield to keep him alive...all equating to shutting down the lane he is in

now...not so much

riot, there are so many champions worse than mordekaiser...why not nerf everyone if you are so afraid of oppressive champs in the laning phase...

this includes jayce, teemo, blitzcrank, thresh, tahm kench, kalista, ziggs, zed, xerath, sejuani and basically anyone above "viable"

mordekaiser is in the "viable" category, usually breaking even in score because he is focused by the enemy team for good reason, his damage is REALLY HIGH

riot, he pays for that with immobility, no crowd control, no means of sustain other than his shield and spell vamp, having only one active ability to damage at a range constantly, his only steroid being somewhat of a gimmick...his ultimate is iconic and fun...and he can face ANY MELEE

overall, he's one of the few "BALANCED" champs in this game and one of my favorites...why riot, it's like you're not even trying to make a game anymore

the only thing I liked about the devourer change is that it allows the never picked champions like elise, jax, master yi, etc to have a role that they can excel in...now...they're cream of the crop and can 1 v 1 anyone, let alone when the jungler can 1v5 the whole team

no one can run from lee sin, who can assassinate someone with his own combo, then kill anyone with his auto attacks

jax can charge in, twirling staff ablaze and not suffer any retalioation as he procedes to jump from target to target and since he is built tanky with devourer, just kills anyone in sight in range

master yi...I think it is officially a problem when a champ that you don't even see until 20 minutes into the game can suddenly take out your entire team

udyr...wait, udyr has never been a problem, why is he a problem now?

because he gets free crowd control by auto attacking...he now can't be stopped from auto attacking and just wracks up damage

if the pros can make urgot work, how in the world do you think any of these changes are a good idea when you are making a champ even less of a champ and making the underpowered champs unstoppable?
