League is the middle-ground of MOBAs

If you want something hardcore that's completely balanced around Challenger/Competitive, go play DotA

If you want something casual that's balance around Bronze/Silver, go play HotS

League is the middle ground. I don't think its asking much for the game to be balanced around Plat/Diamond. Let face it. 99.99% of us do not have the time or interest to invest in becoming Master/Challenger. That requires a constant grind of practice that most of us do not have the time to achieve. That doesn't mean I don't have goals. I would love to make it to Diamond one day and that is a goal I could actually achieve. Plat/Diamond is the top 10% of players. That is an obtainable goal for most players. Even if the challenger players say it's noob ELO, fuck them. You are some of the best players in the game. Good job, you deserve it. Hell, even Gold is the top 25%. Good job to everyone here too.

But what we get are champions that are gutted for their competitive strength.

Azir Kalista Vladimir Shen RekSai Taliyah Alistar Ryze Lulu (RIP lane Lulu) are all currently dumpstered because if they are even remotely viable for us, they become 100% pick/ban in LCS. But what about the people who enjoy these champions? They have to suffer through wave after wave of completely unnecessary nerfs because of Bjerg's #LC$BIGPLAYZ on Azir?

I used to play a lot of Vladimir, but I main MonkeyKing . I absolutely dread the day he gets picked in the LCS because I know the nerf bat will be coming swiftly. I bet that's not just me. I bet there were a lot of mains that had an uneasy feeling in their stomach when they saw their champ becoming a regular in LCS games. Do you think that is a good way to attract viewers? People actually dreading the champ they enjoy getting picked?

You need to pick a side Riot. These target deletions of champs are ridiculous. Either announce the game is going to be a competitive focused game, or balance ALL the champions under equal footing

Honestly I'm a little confused why competitive League and Solo Q aren't just balanced separately.

I mean, I can guess some of the arguments, but there are ways to hide information under the hood so a lot of counterarguments are suddenly less relevant.

Makes practicing on the champs outside of scrims completely impossible for the players

Then you can tier balance changes.

Get to Master+ and you reach the "competitive" patch. Hell, take it a step further and you can balance Silver and Bronze separately to alleviate the pub stomping problems common down there.

Seriously Bronze and Silver games aren't anything like anything else.

That would be great, but a massive problem is games with only Challenger/Masters players almost never happen. Its a lot of Challenger/Master players with Diamond sprinkled in.

Put a hard line in matchmaking between either Diamond and Plat (and make Diamond+ the competitive tier) or Diamond and Masters?

Then upper level elo players never find a match

Try and watch a pro match from the beginning of this year or late last year, and you'll find it's very hard to relate to what the caster's are saying, what champions the pros are picking, and even what items are being bought. Creating septate balance for both would recreate that problem, creating gameplay that's less interesting to watch.

Plus what the OP said about practice.

A more specific example por favor?

Again, there are ways to hide information, at least up to a certain level, under the hood. It's not like everyone nitpicks every tiny detail in the game like exactly how much damage Alistar's Ult is negating down to the single digit or exactly what % of health someone just got executed, more subtle power differences could be more than enough to leverage the difference between LCS plays and the typical bronze pubstomp.

Oh here's a specific example of what I mean.

Nobody would notice if Yasuo's Wind Wall had a cooldown of 30 seconds instead of 26 seconds just from watching any two games. That can have a drastic effect on Yasuo's defensive capabilities over time while at the same time being rather hidden if the pros are dealing with a different cooldown than live.

Anything that gets used repeatedly in a duel would be noticed by mains.

For example, Shen had his offensive abilities recently nerfed. It hasn't been uncommon to see Shen vs Gangplank top, with lots of little back and forth trades. Mains would notice that the LCS Shen wasn't doing as much damage to GP as they do, despite having the same items. That in turn creates a "what's going on here?" question that they're puzzling over the entire game.

People would notice if Karma's Q had 2 seconds added to it in a team fight, or Sivir's bouncing blades stopped critting, or if the movement speed either of them gave fell off faster, etc. In your example of Windwall, it's an ability that is almost never used as soon as it comes off cooldown, so the CD change would rarely be noticed on live either (maybe in laning phase).
