Some Unpopular PSAs

If you do not like the Mastery 6 and Mastery 7 and can do nothing but say how horrible it is, simply do not participate in Mastery 6 and 7.

Ranking for mastery is based on your skills playing a champion in a role compared against the skills of every other person playing that same champion in that role. If you play a popular champion in their most frequent role, you will have a hard time getting S rank. The system is not broken, so get creative in where you play your champion.

If you hate Hextech Crafting and think it's a money grab, don't spend money on it.

If you don't like that you can't queue solo or you feel like you get constantly persecuted by groups, don't queue solo.

If your account is banned for toxicity after other warnings, you deserve it. You are not a special snowflake and starting off threads swearing and flaming at Riot only reaffirms their decision.

Almost every outcry for a change on a champion has been heard. Almost every run of the PBE has fixes for problem champions. Please read the PBE notes on sites like Surrender@20 before asking for redundant changes that are already being tested.

If you absolutely hate a champion in your game, ban them. If an ally wants a pick or ban champion and they are not first or second to pick, ban that champion. It is better to have an ally make a different choice than it is to risk facing a champion you cannot stand or deal with.

The balance team has their hands full. There are quite literally hundreds of moving parts in this game that contribute to balance. It is humanly impossible for a small group of people to calculate how every change will ultimately affect future balance when the play testing community is so small. The game is a living thing, and change has often unforeseen results.

And finally, The game is not about you. Riot doesn't intentionally make changes to screw over the players. They make changes to push the game away from stagnation and to attempt to fix problems with balance. If a change "ruins" your champion, your champion probably was a huge balance problem that needed attention. When the game becomes "play this or counter this" stagnation is soon to follow and that is why balance happens. If you only play a champion because it makes you win and you can no longer win when skill becomes involved, perhaps you need to train more rather than rage at the Balance Team.

here you go dude. I put some effort into translating my commentary into something an idiot can understand.

"If you do not like the Mastery 6 and Mastery 7 and can do nothing but say how horrible it is, simply do not participate in Mastery 6 and 7."

By the same token, if you do not like the pointless bitching on the boards, then do not participate in the fucking boards.

Balance team does not have their hands full.

When they had a smaller, less experienced team, they managed balance more often and more accurately.

They're worried about what shows up in the LCS. That's really it. Balance maintenance (not general state of balance) took a nose dive when professional play spiked.

Also, its quite obvious to see that their play-testers have little to do with balance. Its mostly about bug-fixes, and that becomes extremely apparent with the state of several recent updates/releases.

Except they also had less champions, who also were much less complex.

And the play testers are not the PBE. The play testers is the group of high elo players that hold the patch chat every patch cycle.

Had less champions? They only pay attention to about 25 now. They had about 80 back then, and there were constant nerfs/buffs depending on who was out of line.

And those play-testers show incompetence for the job every stream. People complain about it constantly. They're decent players. They're not good play-testers.

"they only pay attention to about 25 now" +1

I find this funny, as Riot has said that adding more moving parts would give them more levers to balance better. Instead, more features in a kit means more utility, which makes it harder to balance.

Were you not around in previous seasons?

The game is downright great (Note, I do think some things need improving, just relatively speaking) when compared to Metagolem times, or BC times, or Ziggs/Gragas/Nid mid times, or "dash or die" times, even Juggernauts was so much much worse.

Right now, 4/5 roles are have a wide selection of effective champs at anything below high diamond levels. Top lane being effectively a tankfest aside, balance is pretty solid for the vast majority of the playerbase.

Although if your playing at high Diamond or above, then things get a LOT more stale. Kindred/Nidalee/Graves are crowding out the jungle, and tank supports are much more reliable.

Yes, I was around in previous seasons. All of them. Everything was insanely strong in season 1 unless Riot intentionally made it weak. You had metagolem builds, but the champions that employed it were far more diverse than what we have now with over twice as many champions. Considering most items are bought for the stats they offer, not just the passives, there's a reason this game develops metagolem builds, unlike other MOBAs.

BC times aren't any worse than Juggernaut/ADC patches (yet, you imply they've improved), and not any worse than any preseason, which now carries through the rest of the season as well.

Ziggs/Gragas/Nid mid weren't that bad for the game. They were frustrating, but not anymore than assassins when they're strong, panth/wu jungle when that was a thing, etc. Yes, they needed to be toned down, but its not an argument for Riot's improvements since there are still other champions crowding out other choices, being overbearing, etc in various roles.

Its still 'Dash or Die' basically. If you don't have mobility, its almost assured that you are not meta unless you get over-buffed, especially with the current state of damage. Notice that 'bruisers' are basically not a thing and how tanks fill all of their positions.

The fact that you point out right now being better than Juggernauts shows how poor your argument is. Their balance philosophy hasn't changed at all since then, and they employ the same tactics/delays with the sole exception of class reworks. However, I'm willing to bet I can rescind that 'exception' statement after the Assassin update rolls through.

At any time in the game all of the roles had a wide selection of effective champions. Certain ones were stronger, but you could find success with most. Saying that for the current state of the game doesn't come close to making a point.

It's sad that this got downvoted.

Although I would change it to "if the teammate wants to play the champion, and are not 1st or 2nd pick, and the champion is popular, ban them"

Exactly. Well put.

These aren't PSAs.

They're you complaining about other people complaining.

Not in tone, but in intent.
