Poll. Main role impact on Promotion difficulty.

TLDR. I got curious if Autofill protection for Promos is making a negative impact. I just ask that you try and consider every promotional series not just the most recent or your highest ranked ones then make an average from the experiences. Skip to poll if you don't need more details.

Wall. As this year winds down and players are starting to realize some things like the folks who ignore team compositions and cant function in off roles are a liability. Personally I don't find the standard promo game to be any different then a normal one, I also don't treat them any different because Its MMR that matters. With promo helper you have a slanted 50% pass rate that makes moving up after a flopped series easier.

So I obviously have a bias that causes me to dismiss a lot of folks on the boards because from the MMR side there's no logical gains or reasons to make promotional games a challenge or "gatekeep" players. (No guys. To make it "more grindy" is not a realistic reason. Hell you can have the grind lowerd with the LP system by setting higher MMR gains and losses. In MMR the time to climb once your in the right class interval is assumed to be eternity and you really cant add more grind to that.)

I am open to being wrong and in a conversation about players champion pools realize that a high # of people whole heartedly believe its best to keep your pool narrow. I main supports, me getting my role reduces the odds of a teammate being filled due to role popularity. This got me thinking, What if the lack of population in some roles that results in filled teammates is increasing the odds of a teammate being a liability? That's not a MMR issue but it would impact game quality. The game would still look fair on paper but a teammates lack of skill in off roles is really common frustration.

So here is a poll to get some data. I am hoping folks will take a moment and think and be honest.

I happen to believe that promo games are just meaningless fluff. Everything is MMR. This is all match making cares about. Promos are EXACTLY like any other game. Promos, LP, ranks are just cosmetics built on top of the MMR system to give players a more meaningful sense of how they stack up against other players. For the most part, it works but it's still just fluff. It feels better to say I'm Gold or Diamond than it is to say I'm 1250 rating and I actually prefer having the fluff.

With the exception of tier promotions, I think of promo games as just another game and I will even dodge them just like any other match since all that really matters is MMR. If you dodge promos, you will eventually get higher LP gains which will offset it which means in the end, promos don't actually mean anything. The only reason I treat tier promos special is because, quite frankly, it feels nice to be promoted a tier, even though I know it's just an illusion built on top of my MMR.

Promos could be removed entirely and it won't change anything about how ranked actually works or how accurate the system is in matching your MMR to your rank. I think promos are just a waste of time and it needlessly complicates the system. I think divisional promos should go. Tier promos could stay though. They add a little excitement to climbing.

Oh I am aware. https://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=notnotkaiguy I got this account from bronze 1 to Silver 1 with 0 promos by grinding it up to gold MMR and lobby dodgeing to fail promotional games.

If ya read the body of the post thou you will see that its not a question about MMR but a question about if Fill forcieng mains out of popular roles is creating an issue because people don't know how to preform in more then 1-2 roles.

I never had an issue cuz I am a support main. But what about mids which tends to be the most popular role?

Its a question about player skill impact rather then anything related to MMR. MMR wont care what so ever.

This would create no issue and people saying otherwise are full of shit. As a top lane main, I get auto filled on average, once every 15 games, which is a fill rate of about 7%. This is not nearly enough to have a negative impact on my experience. You have to remember that the League community is filled with short sight perpetually angry children that place far too much emphasis on a single match. They get auto filled once, and they throw stupid fuckin tantrums and clutter up the boards with dumb shit threads about how much autofill sucks. This creates a false perception that autofill is some kind of huge problem.

However, for Grandmaster and up, I am willing to concede that it could be a problem. There are so few players up there that I could see autofill rates being extremely high and given the high skill of that elo, it would be extremely punishing for autofilled players.

I expect it mostly to be mid and adc mains (most common folks to complain or ask to swap if they don't get their role.) . I dont have issues with promotional games untill i am near the top of my skill curve where I struggle in all games.

My oppenion is alot of folks are stupid in that they "Try harder" In promos and stop playing the same way they usually do which was what got them up to a promo in the forst place.

But I'm open to being wrong. Collecting data via poll. So far majority results match my expectation of just another game.
