No disrespect intended but my main frusturations in lol come from players.

First my bias, on the whole I like Riot and most reds. I don't always like what they did/do but my expectation is they will make game altering changes, 2-3 times yearly and kick each year off with some dramatic changes.

Some of my beef with parts of the community. Note, if I use you, and it does not apply to you yourself ignore it. If it hits home, yes your part of the problem for me.

Only see the negatives: Folks are so into the habit of only looking at what's wrong its commonplace to see any post about what's good get down voted. Look something that's good does not detract from your frustration with things you don't enjoy. Teammate misplays? hey better let them know their shit and are gonna lose the game. 4 people on your team said no to your FF... to bad you know the game better and comebacks impossible so your gonna AFK farm split push side lanes and feed kills every time they send some one to stop you. Then when the match ends you get to say "see told you guys it was unwinnable" as if that was not some self fulfilling bs created entirely by your own moves. "lol I gave up ages ago." Thanks mate, way to throw. All chat GGEZ. LOL YOUR TRASH. Aight, be a bad sport but its not an endearing quality in a person.

Religiously Enforce Metas: Example. Riot I'm sick of ADC meta. WHY U DO DIS.... Meanwhile, go ahead, try playing Yasuo Mordekaiser Ziggs Bot lane, See how folks respond. Also did wanna play your main? regardless of your win % or skill if your mains not a " Top tier viable meta pick" How much fun is it to see teammates go GG GG WE LOSE GARBAGE PICK. Or if they don't freak out and dodge and you happen to get 1-2 deaths in lane, how's that reaction. Riot never sends a system message in lobby "I see your pick intent is Aatrox. We at riot games feel he is not viable in the current meta and your 75% win rate is luck, auto banning him. We hope you have some other back up champions you can play at your level in the role you got assigned to that might not even be your main. Good luck." Pros do X, high elo streamer does X. hey bring on the blue build EZ.... Its not punishing at all for your teammates that you cant land his Q, don't know how to lead his R, and don't understand item 3070 needs to be stacked rapidly. Or that your cs is 1/3 lower then those players.

There is only 1 true meta, sacred be its name: Hate seeing this, The attitude there's only 1 effective win condition at any time. Forces smaller metas, hurts champion viability. Keeps proper pregame lobby communication toxic. Enforces meta on others. Causes issues building comps and narrows viability.

Proplay is the new Mobafire: Don't know if yall where around for much Mobafire copy and paste but back in early seasons people would link you mobafire guides any time they saw you not build it... and tell you your trash for not following it. Sound familiar? Look PVP game guilds and walkthrough don't help you if your mechanics are weak. Skill has way more impact, knolage can help you improve your skill but theres no step by step Open this chest here use that key there the solution to this puzzle is X for a moba.

Exclusive 1 tricks: Look, I get on the case of 1 tricks from time to time. My stance is that 1 tricking is fine, its a very good way to learn champion mechanics and learn what they do and improve your skill on that champ. More games, more matchups, more comfort all this serves to makes you better assuming your able to learn. I have an issue with folks who only 1 trick a single thing forever, If you have a single main in 1 role and everything else is grossly below that level of skill your a potential handicap for your teammates every game, your basically feast or famine in the lobby. Your perspective on game balance is very narrow, your understanding of teammates matchup's and difficulty's is lacking far to often. Now there are some exceptions kudos if your one of them, but most the time it seems painfully clear players like this have a excruciatingly narrow view of the game. Build yourself a solid champion pool of mains you enjoy, get a basic level of understanding for champions kits as well as what they do well vs or struggle with.

Everything goes if its to prove a point: Throw logic out a window and its impossible to have a rational debate. Your valid points get lost when you disregard reality and don't try to set a realistic expectation. Let things stand on their own merits then live or die by them.

Bandwagon tilt: Upvote farming, RARG THE THING EVERBODYS CAPS LOCKS ANGRY ABOUT ANGERS ME AS WELL... even thou you destroyed that champ last time it was in your match history.... 9 days ago? Hows champion X negitivly impacting your games mate, they are not in your history. oh... you smurf. cool.. uh back that up? don't wanna.... just have to take your word for it? I cant, I'm inherently distrustful of things that are not backed by evidence.

Some one else's fault: I know its frustrating to do well and struggle n lose because some one on your team did badly. But if you don't reflect on your own play, the 1 thing you can consistently rely on every game. You wont see rapid improvements. I make a habbit of looking at my replays on games I slayed it but lost. Put that shit on X4 speed, spectate just myself most the time to look for where I can get better, occasional if I was sitting there scratching my head going "How in the hell did this person lose so badly" I watch it from their perspective. Often times its oh where playing bad but occasionally its oh they did not get the help needed to not fail. the 1 consistent link is you, games not halo its not death match, if your kda is great but your chronically losing matches look for what your doing to break the nexus and if your not seeing patterns of play that lead to that then ya might wanna reanalyze how well you play. also relevant, RITO KEEPS ME DOWN WITH FEEDERS TROLLS AFKERS ETC. Yea? your teammate first timed Sion jungle ranked and you blame riot for this? Not the dude who Picked something they don't know how to play ranked... you blame riot? They can predict the future accurately enough to provide you folks who are gonna feed or troll pick? Its well accepted that feeders are bad, trolls are terrible, and no one wants them in the game. If riot can find these players and put them on your team, riot could just as easily punish them.

Cookie cutter builds: having a stable build knowing its power spikes is good. having 1 build regardless of your or teammates needs is not. Be willing to adjust.

Opinions that differ are wrong: There are grey areas, there's difference in perspective. I don't agree Downvote! I agree UPVOTE! this creates some of that band wagoning in boards. It detracts a good deal from quality posts or valid points and discussions being made visible. Its not bad to agree to disagree, its ok to be open that others might have a different experience then you. If some one has shown effort and tried to keep quality in their post don't just mindlessly down vote it. If you strongly disagree post and generate a discussion. If you don't care that strongly, just ignore it. Some one makes a low quality post, and you agree don't promote them. Don't reward low effort, please. It will only encourage lower quality and we will keep seeing a flood of it show up. I truly expect to see only a handful of comments, probably 3-4 being upset about something I said, 5 to 8 tops agreeing. 1 LOL TO LONG DNDD READ! and to end up with at least -10 votes.

Overall I find it a shame, adjusting the attitudes in community would go a really long way to making game health better. Hell being more unified and supportive community would likely encourage dev communication again.

This can't be stated enough! I generally dislike the up/down-vote system because almost everyone doesn't properly use the function. Downvotes should be reserved for bad posts containing lies and unfounded nonsense or rage in all-caps. Right now the voting system is just a measure of how popular your opinion is. Downvoting a post just because its an opinion you don't agree with is bad, because it deters any further discussion on the topic. Nothing is worse when you spend ages on constructing a well argumented post regarding an unpopular opinion, just to see it downvoted a couple of times and subsequently disappear.

I agree with most of what you said, and I applaud your efforts to improve the standards of the community. Unfortunately I don't think it is going to matter much; most people seem to want to put very little effort in what they do online.

I feel strongly each elo has its own list of viable champions decided by skill caps in relation to average player skill. Discussions on game health about whats causing issues in your mmr should be treated with some respect as whats true for you and problems for you might not apply to upper elos but vice versa. (edit, I'm trying to be better on this one myself.)

Also Nami Is AWSOME, one of my all time fav champs. Glad ya rock her.

Ayame Isaki1 votes

If you want to have fun, try playing Janna with Yasuo as ADC. The wind lane is OP.

TheWoollyMammoth4 votes

The only way to one trick properly. Is to play around with other champs in normals. You play it. you learn its weaknesses. Then...

YOU TAKE THE GLORIOUS UNDEAD HAND OF NOXUS AND SKULLF*&K IT TO DEATH!

I'm going to quote myself from back in the early 2000s.

"I love online games!; except for the people who play online games."

Online games tend to have surly elitists, and vulgar kids as a good chunk of their player base. And LoL intrduced me to the "NEVER SURRENDER" crew as well.

As time goes on, so do the kids, to the next big thing, and new players tend to decrease over time as well. That just leaves you with the elitists. The type who insist on meta everything, who are most likely to rank shame, who are most likly to report a bad game as Inting.

That's just the nature of the beast.

Kai Guy1 votes

True enough, its a pretty accurate rule of thumb. Thing is, I used to be on lots of tiny little forums for Wc3 custom game types. Now the small size might have made it a better environment, or the mods having 0 tolerance for low quality content and just removing consistently toxic people but it was a way more productive experience.

Might be just Nostalgia but even when I was pretty toxic (season 1 &2) Lol boards where overall a more upbeat place imo.

I wish one trickers didn't get so much damn flak on this game. People like playing one champ per role. If it's not available to them they most likely dodge. What's the issue?

HalcyonDweller4 votes

It's not an issue if they take it upon themselves to dodge when they should. I respect one-tricks who do things in a responsible manner.

It is an issue when they threaten to troll or feed in order to make somebody else dodge. And it's even worse when they follow through on that threat.

Kai Guy2 votes

Right, I'm trying to make the distinction between healthy "1 tricks" and the unhealthy ones. any ideas how i can do that better? I thought Exclusive was a good descriptor but its come up a few times now that folks did not take it that way. bugger.

HalcyonDweller2 votes

I think that it helps to point out that it comes down to the person's integrity.

A one-trick who has the integrity to dodge or who is willing to have a few side-characters is fine, because they aren't letting their desire to one-trick negatively impact their teammates.

What is not okay is a one-trick with no integrity, who uses every technique in the book to try to force their teammates to dodge in their stead, or who intentionally punish their teammates for not enabling them to get to play their one-trick character.

It might help to replace "excusive one-tricks" with "Certain kinds of one-tricks," enabling the reader to see that they might not be the type of one-trick you are talking about.

Kai Guy1 votes

I really wanted to make a clear distinction between healthy 1 trickers and unhealthy, Its why I used Exclusive. A very quick use of OP.GG shows that you yourself are not the kind of 1 trick I want to highlight as unhealthy, I really feel infact that most are not. Over last few seasons you can pick between Diana Ekko with Zilean being an off main. You play other champions on occasion, not always ranked, but you play them, and you can do ok on them

I want folks to say they Main X, not 1 trick. If you can do more then just a single thing you are not the player i want to highlight here. Your best with X, you suffer some disadvantage when unable to do so but can do other stuff if needed. The gap between your skill on your main and others is not so impactful your basic game mechanics suffer, just champion mechanics. Your entire view of the game is not 100% narrowed into only the interactions of your champ and everything else.

The players who will consistently lose the game for their teammates because their 1 trick got banned, or they did not get their role. That's the guys i take issue with, more so when they start bitching about game balance with out understanding interactions between anything that does not involve their only champion.

How can I make the distinction better, is there vocabulary I can change to get this point across in a clear way? Did this post help ya understand more where i am comeing from and make it not feel like its my intent to give you flack?

I honestly wanted my statement of "My stance is that 1 tricking is fine, its a very good way to learn champion mechanics and learn what they do and improve your skill on that champ. More games, more matchups, more comfort all this serves to makes you better assuming your able to learn. I have an issue with folks who only 1 trick a single thing forever, If you have a single main in 1 role and everything else is grossly below that level of skill your a potential handicap for your teammates every game, your basically feast or famine in the lobby" was enough to represent myself accurately.

Where could i improve on that in a way that does not make folks who consider themselves dedicated 1 tricks to not feel targeted?

Enderspider2 votes

There are many nice people in league, the majority is nice. The thing is that the toxic players are way louder, resulting in them being noticed more often. Don't forget about that top laner that could have stolen the kill but instead walked around nasus. Don't forget that jungler that kept on giving you bluebuff and saying its ok even though you were 0/10. Those people are often looked over because of the amount of toxicity the others can provide.

point is: keep being nice and trying to be nice, you will meet nice people in the progress [slayer-jinx-catface]

Exclusive 1 tricks

Its a shame but thats how it works. Learning very well a single champ requires considerate dedication.

Kai Guy2 votes

Looking at your account, you wouldn't hit my criteria for an exclusive 1 trick. you do seem to play a high amount of Xerath, by far your main to the point its fair to call you a 1 tricker, but your able to play other champions, each year you seem to have added a few new champs to test in ranked, in normal your playing a mix of champs.

So, your a Xerath main no doubt, but your awareness to the game and your experience in it extends to other champions beyond just Xer, even if your skill on some of those other champions is lacking you at least have some real first hand experience with them.

Like I said, I don't mind 1 tricking within reason as its a great way to learn, but if your only able and only ever do just 1 thing forever it skews your perception.

Edit. Don't downvote just because its about 1 tricks, This gent is entirely correct that mastery of a champion requires a time investment and dedication. I want to make a clear distinction between healthy and unhealthy 1 tricks, its came up a few times now in this post so clearly i have not done so. Open to suggestions how to be more clear.

Indeed i dont 1 trick mostly because playing xerath in other roles sucks a lot. Im trying to play only my main (xerath) at ranked since he is the one that im the most comfortable with. Though currently im trying to switch. Relying on your opponent is kinda annoying to say the least.

Don't downvote just because its about 1 tricks

Why would i downvote? On the contrary i have upvoted it.

Kai Guy1 votes

There's no reason to not play who your most comfortable with, does any one enjoy first time players on their team in ranked? Anyhow its clear I need to find a better way of wording this point, I'm ok with 1 tricking, I'm not ok with the folks who do it in a toxic way or neglect to learn key parts of the game. How can I make that a more clear distinction, Ideas?

@downvote, not directed at you, some one voicelessly down voted your post. Like I said your entirely correct that mastery of a champion requires a time investment and dedication.

I disagree with the one-trick thing. If you aren't trying to play 5v5 flex or be on an actual competitive team and are only playing solo Q, one-tricking is the absolute best way to do it hands down.

You can be a one-trick and not be ignorant too. Just cuz you only play 1 champ in 1 role doesn't mean you don't know anything about the rest of the game.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

It seems like the OP is only talking about one-tricks who literally can't play anything else, or who try to force their teammates to dodge for them when their champion is banned or when they don't get assigned their role.

Kai Guy1 votes

I agree there are healthy 1 tricks. I tried to make it clear I allowed for that. there's a subset of really toxic 1 trick players I actively am frustrated with. Can you help me with finding a better way to explain that distinction? I tried with Exclusive, in most of the responses from 1trick players who took issue A quick Op.GG shows they are not the kind of player I'm taking issue with.

What's a better way or wording this? I take issue with the players who are so invested in a single champ they are incapable of playing anything else remotely close to that champs level of skill so they hurt their teammates, The ones who are lacking in game knowledge because they never bothered to learn it, the ones who cant perform basic required mechanics for their skill level if not on their 1trick. The ones like Hal said who troll lobbys or threaten and follow up on feeding.

I decided to not use "Toxic 1 tricks" because I feel there's plenty of players who identify as a 1 trick that are healthy for the game. I felt that using that would rub a lot of the players I feel are healthy the wrong way so I went with exclusive to make the distinction. Personally a lot of 1 trick players to me, just main that champion But they consider them self 1 tricks and dislike being targeted for ridicule.

Whats better vocabulary I should be using here?

Z3Sleeper1 votes

Smurfing one-trick only accounts?

Cuz that's the only time it's ever an issue. When they want exactly 0 ranked games played on any champion other than the one-trick champ for the account.

Kai Guy1 votes

It it was behavior in just smurfs I would have less beef with it, on the whole I'm less then fond of smurfing. I'm opposed to behavior that sucks the fun out of the game for people.

Z3Sleeper1 votes

I meant in the sense that it's not their main account. The exclusive one-tricks in existence are almost exclusively alternate accounts.

Any other form of one-trick that could be described as "ignorant" of other classes and matchups and whatnot are simply inexperienced players in general.

Has nothing to do with one-tricking.

Same, fam. If I ignore the boards and mute all, then honestly my games don't feel anything like the complaints always make it seem.

How ironic, my main frustration about the game is the exact opposite: those who don't play the game AKA the Balance team

Kai Guy1 votes

We clearly disagree on things, did nothing I say resonate with you?

Athenes Lulu1 votes

Like what some others have said, there's plenty of onetricks that do justice and don't bring everyone down by dodging or playing something else that they're still comfortable with. A lot of us know stuff outside our mains' perspectives, whether if it's through observation, or even simply listening to others who play different things. It's like saying all support mains "hate" their ADCs because "they are whiny and ungrateful", which we all know isn't true.

Or another complaint worth noting, when people uses rank as their sole indicator of validity of arguments. Often I'd face "high elo players" that shut down my arguments simply because I'm in gold and that I have better things to do IRL, while a lot of the reasonable comments here on Boards are actually made by gold and even silver players. Some of the most petty complaints here are made by diamond 5 players, and they use their rank as if they're infallible to being wrong. Not gonna mention any names, but often enough, ranks do not indicate how reasonable someone is.

I do agree with the point of your post and that a majority of why the game is frustrating comes from the players, but it also lies with how games were made/edited to cause players to think that way. For example, ever since season 7 and its balance changes rolled in, playstyles became more and more polarized to the fact that if you're not going the "cookie-cutter metagame", you're putting your team a huge disadvantage, and people are more likely to do the stuff you listed above because of how the game functions. Or, a very famous example, when games become too snowbally, people are more inclined to give up and AFK because of how there's "no way" to catch up, or at least make stuff seem that way.
