Why does Galio have to ult on top of an ally, instead of anywhere on the map?

Anywhere that's in his ult range of course. I feel like Galio has WAY too much counterplay in his kit. All of his abilities can be dodged, and his ult is extremely telegraphed. If he had the freedom to ult anywhere in his ult range, it would give him more ways to enter fights. Alternatively, you can just screw with his numbers some more and the endless cycle of buffs and nerfs continues.

because even Riot knows that would be broken..

you want a strictly better Pantheon ult that knocks up?

well cuz its similar to a shen ult ... as galio ults on to a teammate he shields that teammate reducing damage they take.

shen has to ult onto a teammate should shen be able to just ult anywhere on map ?

Except for the fact that their kits are completely different, but yea great comparison.

not really, both are tanks, both shield and reduce damage to teammates with ult and both have a taunt and do ap damage

not that far off

The difference is some of Shen's abilities have no counterplay (like his 'w'). All of Galio's abilities can be dodged. Like I said completely different champs.

Maybe cuz he's actually going to rescue an ally? To limit his ult mobility so it can be as strong as it currently is? The last thing I want is to have is "TF ult 2.0"

Because it would be a better panth ult with less counterplay because a tank is jumping in the center of your team knocking everyone up not someone who will die in half a second

I agree; revert Galio's hotfix.

The targeted damage reduction is a big part of his ultimate's strength, it'd be sad if it went away in favor of ulting anywhere, but I still understand your point. I think the problem is that we now have champions that have little to no counterplay while offering a lot of power to a team while others have a lot of counterplay to them while only offering power in certain situations.

But Galio actually does have counterplay, and you wouldn't have to take away the damage reduction just because he has the freedom to ult anywhere. Literally every ability in his kit can be dodged. It's stupid to compare his ult to Shen's or Pantheon's because those champions have numerous abilities in their kits that can't be dodged.
