It's much easier to hide behind your sycophants and make excuses than to try and do anything. There's no RP in fixing glaring, fundamental problems, so why bother?

edit: Holy shit I forgot the "but it'll even out in the long run" horseshit. I've got three matches in my match history RIGHT NOW ruined by afk's. Should I sit and wait for my next three matches to have enemy afk's in them? NO- BECAUSE THAT IS NOT HOW THIS SHIT WORKS. It is also not how it SHOULD work, but again, it's easier to handwring and make excuses and hide behind the jaw-dropping ignorance that continues to perpetuate these arguments than it is to DO SOMETHING.

That every other game of this type does.

edit2a: There's a lot of "stop crying and offer a solution" bollocks floating in. I've probably proposed eight or nine different solutions by now, ranging from simple tweaks to elaborate schemes. I don't feel like typing them all out every time because they get buried by the same general defeatist bullshit that keeps progress from being made. What I want Riot to do is SOMETHING. It probably won't be perfect right out of the gate. It might need some iteration cycles. I want to hear Riot say "this is a problem and we are working on it and this is where we are with that". I want the immediate "suck" of having an ally either disconnect or ragequit and having YOUR game be made 10x harder alleviated. 100% elimination is obviously impossible but right now Riot is more concerned with making sure nobody calls anybody a name than with providing fair games, and I want THAT to change. Player behavior initiatives are great and they have made amazing strides in that area but they CANNOT be allowed to hold the ranked game mode hostage. I can mute a shithead. I can't replace a guy the client kicked out because lolclient.

edit2b: There was a reply about Lyte saying leaverbuster will fix games starting with 9 players connected to them? Great! Six years late, assuming it starts soon, but at this point I'll take what I can get.

Where's that 'Mercy' thread I saw a while back? That had 100+ upvotes because it fucking makes sense. If the enemy team realizes they outnumbered you, they'd grant mercy, and you wouldn't lose as much LP due to some asshole that left or some unfortunate person that lost power or had an emergency.

Theirs not much of a good answer to the problem. I recall the Behavioral team having problems with giving out lost forgivens like that because it would empower people to rage at people until the AFK and get a Loss forgiven as a result. (basically abusing the function)

Similarly, Riot is never Really going to punish AFK'ers too severely because they can't determent why they quit. Granted they are getting better at determining the difference between a connection problem and a leaver. the Leaver may be trying to escape from a toxic environment, and riot won't punish you for that. The only way an AFK'er will get a severe punishment is if a) multiple repeat offenses in a short span of time. or b) he gets reported for something else. (and only after they reviewed the chat logs.)

That aside, Riot most likely discounts the down fall of having an AFK'er on the statistical basis that you would have an equal and opposite chance of winning as a result of an Enemy AFK'er. Leveling out the actual Ranking differences in the long run.

Daily reminder there is no solution to this where everyone is pleased, an AFK sucks and pisses you off, deal with it.

Actually I read it somewhere that they are making a feature that drops you back to the lobby if someone never connects to the game. It would solve a big percentage of the afks.

Actually, LeaverBuster deals with AFKs and Leavers pretty damn well. You can read about it some more here: https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752714-LeaverBuster-FAQ In the future, we'll do a small update to it so that when players fail to connect to a game and a game starts 4v5, we'll allow players to just reboot the game without penalties.

Riot should do something similar to what DOTA has done which is basically if someone afk's or dc's for a certain amount of time, then it's ok to leave that game. Or the mercy rule mentioned previously could work as well, both have pros and cons though. Idk just some ideas, what do you guys think?

Give a solution that cant be abused and it might be implemented - you can complain all you want and state there are these mysterious solutions that every other game has, but say the solution. I personally havent found a MOBA that deals with AFKs very well.

How do we fix this problem without bringing up other problems? you offer nothing constructive, just complaints. if you dont like it, then dont play.

There's no real solution to 4v5s in the first place.

All there actually can be is proposed measures to alleviate it.

Riot doesn't care, because you play Ranked the wrong way. Essentially you play to train, and LP goes along the way to reflect your skill level. If your skill is at Silver 3, your rank should vary from S3 to S5, it does not always have to be at S3, as your skill improves, let's say S1, you'll be stuttering between S1 and S3.

There is nothing they can do currently that wouldn't be heavily abused in a ranked setting. Instead of complaining about the problem make a suggestion of how to fix it if you think the problem is so easily fixed.

In these past two weeks. Not a single one of my games has had an afk that my team lost (three afk's, none in ranked. we won all three) There has been one NORMALS game the enemy team had an afk, their adc crashed due to the unable to connect bug. They were able to type in the end game lobby which is how I know this, even though their name was a red highlight on the player list.

TL;DR: IMO and My experience, not an issue. It might be because of the division/rank youre in as when I was in lower silver and bronze I had tons of 4v5 ranked games, but not so much now.

Play some normals, cool down, play ranked.
Lose a game? play normals and see if its a losing streak, if not then you got out skilled and play ranked again.
Win the game? Play again, lose? repeat step 2

They might actually care, but have no real idea on how to fix it. Now granted, the answer has been staring them in the face for years now, but that does not mean they don't care. See, Riot has what I like to call "Nintendo Syndrome." They seem extremely incapable of listening to the community they say they work to please, yet occasionally do something that so caters to the ideas and wants of players that it seems like they are deliberately holding out on certain things the community asks for. It is all very strange, but we can have no clear answer until someone who actually works for them confirms it.

For people who NEVER connect to the game.....1st offense 7 day ranked ban. 2nd offense 30 day ranked ban. Etc etc etc. There is a difference in someone who never connects and someone who doesnt want to stick around when its 35-2 kills.

First problem: This is not the only game that has a lot of afk's every popular online game does. People just notice it more in moba's because it matters a hell of a lot more in moba's then it does in say CoD.

Second problem: You are hiding behind a huge wall of bias. You are just angerly ranting and not actually providing a good solution. Riot has tried many many many things and none of them have worked. Many other game companies have also tried. You are making the claim with your post that you know better then all the gaming companies and a significant portion of the community.

Third problem: It statistically does balance out over time. In fact the statistics are in your favor that you are less likely to have an afk unless you are the one leaving. That isn't opinion that is math. You are being ignorant by discrediting something that is proved and taught on a daily basis. You literally choose to ignore the relevant math. Yet again you refuse to provide a real solution and rant ignorantly.

Fourth problem: Your match history is completely irrelevant. Spikes in random occurrences over a short term does not discredit the idea that it balances out.

You say do something yet you don't say what. You just call every one who disagrees with you/has actually tried to solve the problem; idiots and ignorant. Stop spouting non-sense and come up with a reason why the other arguments are bull shit. If you can't do that then get off the boards and stop wasting our time.
